Mr Simple started my kpop journey and DBSK is also my ult 'cos it's impossible not to love and cherish groups that SJ grew up with (which is why I'm a fan of SM groups in general, the family bond is there fr). MOONBIN LOVED BEING AN IDOL. HE LOVED WORKING IN FANTAGIO. he signed with them under the age of 10, and was the first one to renew his contract as an astro member. that was how loyal he was to the agency. he never had any scandal, was never unnecessarily hated by the public, was never bullied by fans/nonfans. he loved his job and always talked about it every chance he got. he even defended the agency from the fans' outrage. so no, he was never a product of kpop's toxicity. stop setting him as an example to the dark side of kpop when you don't even know him. Edit: moonbin is one of the oldest employees of fantagio being signed to it since under the age of 10. if he hated something, he would communicate it out loud and even on camera. he called out the agency for selling expensive merch. he got angry and fought the staff when in their early days, they were prohibited to eat before filming a music video (he and eunwoo wanted to eat chocolates so they talked to the staff and finally the whole group was allowed to eat and extreme dieting stopped). when he gave his lines to the rapline and cut down his parts in a song. when fantagio gave crazy, sexy, cool to him as a solo song, he talked to the president and convinced them to make it a group song (title track) instead. no matter how much he spoiled any song/group plans to the fans, he never got in trouble. that was how influential moonbin was in his agency.

for real, like at first I was trying to understand her reason to hate kpop until she mentioned him, it's so unecesary to mention him using him as an example for the toxic industry, if she doesn't even know him or what happened, one of the things I loved about binnie was how he literally couldn't care less about the beauty standards or any expectations the public had over idols, he always said he ate very well not following those idol strict diets, and didn't care about saving face for his "idol image" like the time he just took out his hair extensions on camera, he was so hard working and involved in his art, music, choreography, loved his fans but still set limits , he was one of the most human, transparent, realest idols I've known throughout all my years as a kpop stan.

That's like one of my biggest pet peeves being a Kpop fan is that you being told that what you like isn't valid. I started my kpop blog to help myself learn and keep up with groups by making guides and other content. But I don't ever judge someone if they are either a newer or older kpop stan just because they only know the groups or artists that they know.

He was admired and had a say in certain company rules because he was close with staff members. He was outspoken and very independent from what he's shown through his personality. He chose to renew his contract and wanted to continue working alongside his members.

I don’t think she was trying to “prove” her point. I think her point would stand regardless of any actual deaths in the industry. Also I don’t believe she was making a point per se, she was just vocalising something that holds her back from enjoying the music. It’s just an opinion. I'm a 2013 kpop stan (BTS, EXO, Sistar, T-ara, 4Minutes, BAP, etc.) and I never use Twitter unless it's to download concept photos! I love their energy as newer fans but as a long-time fan, it's hard to keep up with the constant stream of releases and new groups, let alone listening to B-side tracks. The industry has changed so much, its crazy!

The one thing I'll always look down on when someone is critiquing the industry is them using someone's death as fodder for being against the whole genre. (Especially Monnbin's since nothing was ever confirmed). Also, like, I agree whole heartedly that the industry can be very harmful, but also literally every entertainment industry has incredibly deep flaws that often harm performers. K-pop isn't the only industry with issues, and lots of the critiques against it always have a hint of racism and xenophobia underneath them. And genuinely *hating* a genre/industry and hating on the people that like it is really immature.

I find it pretty weird that she brought up his death as a critique towards kpop as if anyone had ever said that he did it because of troubles in the industry. It was never even implied that it had anything to do with kpop. Most ”kpop haters” who claim they hate it because of the industry are extremely hypocritical anyways, they definitely have different reasons for hating it (often misogyny and racism) that they simply don’t want to admit. Like, why are you not as passionate about hating hollywood (a quick google search will show you the horrors of scooter braun for example), why do you then buy your clothes from h&m and shein, why is your phone an iphone etc etc… It is obvious that they only care about exploitation of workers when they can weaponize it as a talking point against kpop fans.

I honestly relate to Skylar in that once I dove deep into multiple groups in KPOP I dove even deeper into the dark side. I find myself loving the music but fighting this inner battle making sure I am kept conscious of the struggles and injustices occurring within the industry. i was genuinely enjoying this video up until the last part. i get that she's the mole and probably wasn't aware of the misinformation but i really wish she didn't mention moonbin. as an aroha, it still hurts deeply. and even more so when non-fans talk about how he passed even though nothing has been confirmed. if anything, this just shows the irreparable damage the media and police have caused from reporting speculation. his family even put out a statement to not speculate so i think we should all respect their wishes. i can really only speak for myself but i think other arohas can relate that even though we're back to "normal" life, we're very much still mourning his loss. even the smallest things that remind me of him still makes me tear up sometimes. i still vividly remember that day-what i was doing when i found out, holding back my tears out in public trying to process everything, and eventually crying in front of my boss because i couldn't hold my tears any longer. i still vividly remember stepping foot in my local kpop store because they set up a memorial and immediately crying the second i saw his picture, and then crying even more at washington square park at another memorial for him. so to hear people speak about him this way is just....awful, really
