Objection! the Offset Gear is clearly the most useful one! That's actually a very elegant way to do a stepper motor without rubber bands!

#4 is actually quite cool, shame it grinds every time you shift though, You’d have to double clutch it to get a smooth transition (and even then, I’m not even sure if that’s possible with the way it works)

Bit late, but I wonder, in history there's many written things about 'robots' even by davinchi, think you can try a couple? (All used stuff like wind up spring or cheated with human hidden, all used gears (and pulleys, you're smart enough to solve that) so electric motor can be forgiven)

Jaxson Campbell has a pretty good tutorial for a 4-speed linear stick-shift gearbox, but it can easily be modified for 5-speed + reverse by changing the spacing between gear trains and adding two gear trains. Watch the video kzbin.info/www/bejne/goTcqWamlpipqpY
