#6 - Maui magic with turtles, waterfalls and Hana Road

HAWAII BABY!!!
Well this was one place we had always dreamt of going to but have never been sure we would make it and believe me it was worth the wait!
Our first Hawaiian stop - MAUI
We stayed in Ka'anapali on the North Western shore where we enjoyed the most stunningly beautiful sunsets, miles of sandy beaches & leisurely boardwalk strolls.
Hawaii did not disappoint with the most beautiful turquoise water and coral reefs bursting with marine life. Our stand out winners were the incredibly laid back turtles floating around the shores and Lani, our resident endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal who came to snooze on our beach each day.
Hawaiian's truely care about their land and sea and they protect and give back as much as they can as part of their culture. This was noticeable throughout our time here as the landscape and seas are immaculate and the locals are eager to make people aware if they are pushing limits.
Always be aware of the sun and wind, we quickly learnt the lesson that our delicate British skin needed more protection! N.B when travelling to Hawaii be sure to pack mineral based suncreams which are less likely to harm the coral reefs and the biodiversity they support.

ACCOMMODATION;
Ka'anapali Shores, Oasis Resort on VRBO. Our condo had a fully equipped kitchen with the benefits of hotel amenities i.e. two pools, fresh linen and supplies (upon request). Walking distance to shops, restaurants and hire cars. www.astonkaana...
HIGHLIGHTS;
Snorkelling at Kahekili Beach, 'Airport Beach' - magnificent coral reef very close to shore, great for kids so they don't have to swim far. Be aware of the swell, current and rip tides.
Nakalele Blow Holes - The most powerful natural occurrence, brilliant fun for the kids. Quite a hot walk over rugged rocky fields but worth it for this unique spectacle!
Snorkelling at Honolua Bay. Short but lovely jungle walk to a rocky but sheltered bay. Was quite disturbed when we were there but that is likely due to the wind and big swell.
Dragon's Teeth Trail - Found at the Ritz Carlton Golf Course. Short but beautiful walk alongside the golf course to a point where you can find rocky formations shaped exactly like a dragons jaw and teeth!
Hana Road - We were excited to spend a day travelling the well known Hana Road, so much to see, so much to do but for us the highlights were seeing the turtles snoozing on Ho'okipa Beach, jumping off the twin falls waterfall, exploring the lava tubes, rainbow Eucalyptus trees and freshly baked banana bread and coffee from Mahealani's en route. Allow a minimum of 8 hours to maximise and enjoy all this magical road has to offer!
FOOD & DRINK;
Monkeypod Kitchen - Whalers Village at Black Rock Beach. Great atmosphere, gorgeous menu, and efficient service. Our first taste of Strawberry Cream Pie, highly recommend. Be sure to book in advance! After your meal enjoy a wee stroll around all the boutique and well known shops Whalers Village has to offer. Great kids play area too!

Mana's Market - Paia. Everything here felt super fresh, well presented and healthy. Great for gathering supplies for your day on Hana.

Cafe Mambo - Paia. Contemporary minimalist coffee shop offering an awesome brunch menu and the best coffee I had in Hawaii!

Mahealani's Banana Bread - Hana Road. The loveliest couple offering the freshest quality baked goods...the banana bread was warm out the oven and the chocolate brownies were SUBLIME (in fact so good that Rocky paid $50 to have the last half to himself!).

Andie watched this one on the toilet 🚽. Loved it, she was confused and Maui. She wanted to know “where he was” it took most of the video to explain Maui is also an island. 🏝️
