That's what happens when you overpaid athletes... They don't really appreciate life at all. They just want the most money possible, when even with just $100,000 dollars you could be happy for the rest of your life investing or starting a business. It's really depressing watching rich people crying over a couple more millions of meaningless money.

@@darkangels119 I haven't heard of a lot of people being self-represented in contract debates. I know they exist, but can't name any examples. Idk why you wouldn't. They take a cut, taxes take a cut, and agents could be looking out for themselves too much. I would say just go in for yourself. It's like a job negotiation. It kind of feels like an idea that it's beneath them to negotiate kind of thing from the outside in. But it may also be just so your phone isn't being blown up, agents are in touch with many sponsors in legitimate, known ways, and if you would want to reach out to Nike for example, your agent could handle that. All while you work on shooting form for the day or whatever.

Teams have to spend money and have a full roster before a certain date on the calendar. Any $ not spend during off-season by teams are going back to players in another way, it's a bit complicated but it explains why some players receive more than they are worth even without any spike in the cap, the Mozgov contract being a prime example.

Right. Boogie offered by Pelicans 2 year big contract even he is injury. But boogie case are different like the 6 player that mention. Boogie refuse the deal want to be like kd join the easy way to have chip. So even the contract are very low for his caliber but he think he can stay healty with no pressure come because without him gsw already fav champ. The six player have an issue want to have more so different sins that cousins want to be Champions and the other want to big contract. So basicly boogie are make weak move and the 6 player make greedy move (for who not injury so dont count rose and IT) For rose and IT its kinda be sad because the contract are ruined by the injury.

legendary collection Boogie didn’t leave the Pelicans for GS because he was ring chasing. He felt disrespected by the contract because before he got injured he was playing lights out and should’ve been given a max. Plus, that year instead of signing him before, they signed Julius Randle for big money. When they didn’t give it to him he said fuck yall and join a one year team at a chance to win a ring while he recovers. If he was offered that max deal, he would’ve stayed with AD. Comparing him to KD who would’ve gotten his max deal with OKC and left for GS is a weak move.

7:54 Damn, I never heard of the Joe Smith story where they tried to get his Bird rights with 3 1-year deals, actually smart, but I didn't know the NBA would intervene which sucks for Joe and the Timberwolves.. I wonder if there have been more cases like that and if there is a rule for that
@Kornreis
@Kornreis 2 жыл бұрын
Follow-up: I found an informative article called 'The bizarre saga of Joe Smith's illegal Minnesota Timberwolves contract' on the 'For The Win' website. In this article Kevin McHale, who was VP of basketball operations for the Timberwolves at that time, explains: “There are eight to 10 teams that do this all the time. They’re just good at it. We’re bad.” The documents of their agreement with Smith got revealed because of the following occasion: “According to J.A. Adande, then of the Los Angeles Times, the entire plan was blown open when agents Eric Fleisher and Andrew Miller parted ways. Miller retained Smith and superstar teammate Kevin Garnett in the split, which prompted a lawsuit that led to the unearthing of many documents, including those detailing the Timberwolves’ illegal agreement with Smith.”

i don't understand how anyone can still believe that someone would have offered isaiah thomas 100 million if he never got injured? he certainly would not have gotten that kind of contract from the celtics because ainge is one of the best gms in the nba and he is too smart to build his team around an undersized ball dominant no defense guard like thomas. the fact is thomas was never in the long term plans of the celtics. the only reason why he was featured in the celtics offense and was allowed to do whatever he wanted was because everyone else on the team got injured and he was the only one who could score.

Tf are you talking about, when IT got to Boston the only players on those squads that could even get their own buckets consistently and effectively would’ve been like Avery Bradley, Al Horford and 1 season of Evan Turner. Plus it’s not like it was empty stats cuz we won 48 and 53 games in both of his full seasons with us and went 20-8 after we acquired him from the Suns. He wouldn’t have gotten a max but he still would’ve gotten a bag

Spree's "I've got a family to feed" line after refusing a big contract wasn't even the most arrogant rejection of a contract. Longtime Dallas Stars superstar Mike Modano called a max deal to stay with the Stars "insulting", why? "That wouldn't feed my dogs!" He would hold out and eventually sign for a fraction of that.

Isaiah Thomas is a prime example of why loyalty is, at best, a two-way street. You produce enough to make the team not to find you expendable, and the organization treats you well enough or pays you well enough that you don't want to leave. It isn't mandatory, it shouldn't be expected, and most importantly, players have been trying to team up since the dawn of free agency, and probably before that, too. You just didn't hear about it as much. Also, teams have no requirement to be loyal to someone they find expendable. It can seem cruel, but it's the business of basketball. I'm not saying I love it, it's just reality.
