You should buy the HP ones as they carry 18 amps instead of 10 amps. 1. The ATX standard for a PCIe 6-pin supplemental power cable is that it can carry up to 75 watts out to the video card, and up to 75 watts can come up to the card from the PCIe x16 video slot. 2. HP workstation power supplies are built to standards that are higher than the ATX standard. When you look at the specs on your high wattage HP power supply's label you'll see each 6-wire 6-pin cable can carry up to 18 Amps (12VDC). What is 12 x 18? That is the number of Watts (216) that HP workstation power supplies can send out on each of those 6-wire cables. And, that is why you can use one of those HP cables and a 6-pin to dual 6-pin high quality adapter with the HP power supplies. Or, one of those 6-pin HP cables to one quality 8-pin adapter. You're thinking apples, and you have oranges.

8 pin doesn't have any more 12V wires, just more ground. Since you burnt the 12V at the connection points my guess would be that you got a cheap 6 to 8 pin connector with thin wires which overheated at the poor connection point. Worth spending a tiny bit more if you are to use one or this happens.

Best advice it to stay in the right power range according to your cables. 6pins can Draw a max of 75W. The Pcie Slot also maxes at 75W. So If you want to run a single 6 to 8pin, dont Go above 150W for that GPU. If you have two 6 to 8pins connected, then dont go above 225W. To stay safe, I personally would limit GPU power to 130W and 200W respectively.

It is much safer to use your 6 pin cable in 8 pin slot and just put remaining 2 pins together with 1 wire. These things are happening because of bad quality of wire. Other important thing is quality of power supply. 12v 18a per rail is minimum because of wire quality.

@tryllejens3 жыл бұрын
The short answer is, if your GPU draws more than 150 Watts, don't use an adapter. A 6 pin connector from a power supply is usually only rated at 75 Watts, plus the 75 Watts from the pcie slot on the motherboard, so going over 150 Watts is a no go. But for a GPU that consumes less than 150 Watts, but has a 8 pin connector, this adapter is fine.
@orca_on_blitz31293 жыл бұрын
Will a sata to 6 pin work with a gtx 1650 super on a 275 watt power supply?
@tryllejens3 жыл бұрын
@@orca_on_blitz3129 yes that should work, as far as I know, the 1650S is a 100watt GPU, it can draw 75watt from the pcie slot, so it only needs 25watt from the cable, and the Sata and molex cables are rated just above 50watts if I’m not mistaken. So for a 1650S it’s fine. But if the specific PSU you have can handle it is another question, you need to check the info on the side and see how many amps the 12V rail has, if you multiply the amps by 12 and the result is over 225-250 I think it should be fine.
