I want the a6500. But I've got the feeling that if I buy it now, its successor will be announced the second I put it in my hands, with (almost) all of those problems fixed. I FEEL IT. So I'm saving.

Same here. I'm about to replace my A6000, but there will be a new sony announcement in 2 weeks or so, and I'm quite affraid I'll miss the better camera if I buy this now.
@TomAntos6 жыл бұрын
If you need a camera now then just buy it. If you don't then buy it when u need it this way you'll have the latest. But don't wait just cuz a new better camera will come out soon. These days new models come out pretty much every year so regardless of when you buy it in a year your model will be old... but at least you will have shot all this cool stuff with that older camera instead of waiting around with nothing to show but the latest camera.

I know this is an older video BUT for anybody still buying or using one of these Sony cameras (I shoot with a6400) purchase the Meike dual battery grip. I shoot a TON of video and photos over about 6-7 hours at dirtbike races and I typically only use 2-3 batteries for the entire day with only 1 battery change. It uses one battery and then switches to the second battery automatically. I’ll usually swap batteries around 35% on the second battery at about hour 5 to avoid accidentally losing data due to camera shutting down. From there I may use 50% of the 3rd battery by the end of the day. I carry 7 batteries with me and rarely ever do I need more than 3-4. It’s an awesome piece of equipment and it has a function shutter button with half press autofocus for portrait shots. Also for the overheating, open the LCD screen for sure AND using the battery grip I have not once had a single overheating issue, I shot hours of footage in 104F heat with no issues. 🤙🏻 Hands down best purchase I’ve made for the a6400. Here’s a link 🤙🏻 Meike MK-A6300 Vertical Shooting Grip Power Pack Holder for Sony A6300 A6000 Camera a.co/93CrB7P

There IS a timelapse mode in the camera. The S&Q mode makes video file in your desired framerate. It doesn't take photos but only makes a video. Also you can charge the camera with the USB connection and a small USB battery.
@TomAntos6 жыл бұрын
Hiski Hämäläinen the S&Q can only do 1 frame per second not longer like many timelapses require. Also it compiles it into a movie for you which is not as good as having the full resolution, raw frames that allows you to do digital pan, tillt & zoom in 4K. As for USB cable it does not provide enough amps when shooting 4k video in camera so it will drain the internal battery and the camera will shut off to charge the battery. It does extend the battery life but only a bit.
@jameswest59195 жыл бұрын
@@TomAntos Not true about the usb cable and internal 4k recording. I film wildlife with the a6500, in 4k, powered by a Zendure A3 power bank. It'll power the camera for several hours.

You can simply power your camera and all A7S, A7R, A7, etc. from a power bank like that one for charging your phone, on the micro-USB connector of the camera. It is far the cheapest and versatile solution, I use one power bank on my flycam replacing one of the weights from bottom, the only trick here is to find one approximately the same weight like the metal original weight, and to use a velcro system to keep all things together.
@TomAntos6 жыл бұрын
StudioAlb Stefan the problem with powering the a6500 via USB connection is that when shooting video in 4K the camera uses more amps than the USB provides. So it will eventually drain the battery and the camera will shut off
@hiselectmedia6 жыл бұрын
On my a6300 it doesn’t charge via USB while it’s on. I’ve tried using the power banks. That must be like Tom is saying, that it doesn’t have enough amps. That could explain why it doesn’t work for me.

Here's the thing. I want to buy a camera for video or namely some short films and some artistic expression and am going back and forth between the a6300/a6500 and g85. I'm not interested in vlogs or selfies, so I guess I won't need the flip out screen, although it is a nice thing to have. What I'm interested in is a nice cinematic look, color grading, shallow dof where needed, some low light shooting. Looking at g85 footage it all seems so claustrophobic and not really cinematic but rather very realistic. I guess that has to do with the sensor and focal length equalness. The a6500 imho looks very good to the eye even with cheap lenses. The background is compressed and separated nicely, wouldn't you say? Rolling shutter can be fixed in post. I'm not sure I'm sold on the IBIS either. I plan on using a gimbal where needed because I'm planning on buying one for a project anyway. And I have monopods, sliders, tripods with fluid heads so hand held isn't a neccessity I guess. Basically I have a lot of gear my dad left me and am planning on buying a gimbal. All I need is a camera that will give me the ability to shoot short films and such. I'm very very into grading and achieving that film look and feel. This would be my first real camera. I can get the a6300 with the 18-35mm kit lens and the g85 with the 12-60 kit lens for about the same price. The a6500 would cost me about 450-500 more. Any suggestions?

I have since switched to the a6600 since it's really hard to find the a6500 and prices are identical. The a6600 and a6500 are great as B or backup cameras along side my Sony a7siii. For the zoom lens I use the Sony E 55-210mm zoom lens. It's cheap and has good enough quality for a B camera. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1022364-REG/sony_sel55210b_e_55_210mm_f_4_5_6_3_oss.html
