Why don't they build a more natural environment for the Barbary Sheep.. something more rocky so they can wear down their hooves more naturally?
@theratinyourgarage68563 жыл бұрын
That would take a lot of space and money. Probably money that they don't have. It would be a better idea to transfer them to a reserve or somewhere where there is a natural environment for them already built for the purpose of keeping the sheep, but we have no idea what the context is. We don't know if they're being kept for rehabilitation or for breeding or what the plans will be for them in the future. It's not easy to assume in a situation like this
@Rowen__333 жыл бұрын
You also don’t know what health problem they might have and a more diverse environment could make it harder to catch them for treatment. It all depends on the factors

These are more wild than most domesticated sheep. Plus, they have horns. I have a bad feeling that wouldn't end well.
@howardtheduck76683 жыл бұрын
@@greenapple9477 We use them on large, horned goats... Sometimes you need more than one and the dog’s got to have enough grit but they work just fine. After all, many herding dogs are also used on cattle... and some on hogs.

And I also don’t understand when they do eventually catch him why they don’t use ropes around the horns or head criss crossed with people holding & walking on both sides like a horse that’s cross-tied and then soft hobble type loops on his hind feet that can be clipped to a rope from the back? That would be less dangerous for the people, far less grabbing for hind legs, yet still get him moved in a timely manner with very little risk of escape either. And then, there are also things that can help hold animals for trimming - there is a reason most ranchers use equipment. I get that it’s more exciting this way for video, but we need to consider safety and lower stress levels for men & beast alike.

It seems like they should hire a farmer as a consultant..At feeding time the sheep should be in a smaller coral also a herding dog could get the sheep closer together in a smaller fenced area even the fittest human cannot outrun those sheep. But it is entertaining...I think they need a better system for catching the sheep...I can tell Tim is baffled!LOL

I realize that it'd take all the fun of it for these boys but i'm not understanding not using well-trained border collies to move them - or at least tire them out. And i don't understand not using some sort of blinder/scarf over their eyes to help walk them to the pen. Or the use of hobbles once it's caught & blindered.

A dog would've been a lot easier, less stressful, no harm done to the goats/sheep and they tag which one you want then get it. I don't like that net ay. They need rocks for their feet and to keep them as close to their natural environment as possible. Good video though, thank you.
