On the first beat how do you do a downstroke with your thumb and golpe in the same move?
@BenjaminWoods7 жыл бұрын
In a grasping motion, the thumb strums across the strings, while the fingers go into the soundboard to make contact.
@scottmichaelcrowe7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ben I'm gonna practice that
@Jordan-ot7qf5 жыл бұрын
Going up-down-up entirely with the index finger after beat three- instead of using the thumb on the last upstroke- sounds much better. I just changed my rumba strum. Thanks for the insight

Thanks a lot Ben, really good videos, congratulations! I am spanish so I am suppose to play as Paco (just joking, I wil lose some thumbs up for that). Right no it's 10 o'clock in Spain so we are not yet in siesta time :). It may be useful to add something about "rumba catalana"/ventilador (I have not found any video in english but it should be) It is widely used in chorus for example, when people free their souls and start clapping and singing... Jerónimo de Carmen / Pituquete are the ones that I have learnt from (I grew up in Santander, at the north, where flamenco is like a souvenir from Andalucia, so I have to learn by videos like yours, so thanks again)
@Flamenco4U3 жыл бұрын
What you say is true Álvaro. I've found that flamenco is somewhat of a "souvenir" to natives of Andalucía--surprisingly!...Just as I'm sure there are people in Louisiana who are oblivious to blues music and blues artists. Glad to see that you are on the hunt for good flamenco!

So I've been practicing this one for a little bit and my strumming just sort of sounds noisy and unpleasant to me. I'm not sure what it is. I don't feel that I've got it down yet so maybe I just need practice but also I'm using an ordinary guitar and not a classical so could that be it? It sounds less loud at speed also but I can see here you play it slowly and it still sounds nice. Anybody got a tip for me?
@BenjaminWoods2 жыл бұрын
Hmm it's tough to know whats going on. But yeah a nylon string guitar is recommended. And I recommend you go back and watch this lesson more carefully and always practice slowly with a metronome. It takes time but it will strengthen and then you can slowly start going faster, keeping the machine-gun timing. Good luck my friend.
@danvanleeuwen77122 жыл бұрын
@@BenjaminWoods Thanks. I'll give slowing it down some more a try and maybe pick up a nylon string guitar at some point soon. This series of videos is part of my regular routine right now and I definitely do feel the accuracy and timing showing up in the rest of my playing so thanks a lot.

Mateus Mendonça Golpe is hitting the body of the Guitar, mostly of the time below the chords but this can be done on the top two. The way is done is play a beat down with the thumb and hit the body of the guitar with your middle finger nail at the same time.
