Today I picked up 2 very nice blocks. One walnut and one Oak. Because I really liked the tea light block with the built in matchbox. What an easy little project and with Xmas coming up, I will be sending 6 lucky family members/ friends this gift. Cant wait to start this tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration , CHEERS !

But what beginner would have a table saw, a router table, or a drill press? These are nice ideas but if they were aimed at beginers, they should have been done with hand tools.

Nice one! I really like the plywood pencil holder and ring. I made a match/candle holder last year but I used the side grain based on how my scraps worked out and after time it actually warped shut and you really can't get the matches out. Going on the end grain as you did should be good and sturdy!

I agree, love the look of the Baltic birch plywood. Maybe we should try a plywood candle holder? No risk of warping there.

You could always cheat and reuse an old picture frame for the 'catch-all'. I've bought things from a £1 store and glued them together to make chunky frames then customized it to my choice.

Do it old school. Nobody needs a fancy woodshop, it's just nice to have. You can make rabbit joints with a simple mallet and chisel. To make a mallet find a 4x4 cut 4" piece. Find center and install a handle using a 2" dowel rod. It is rudimental but it will get you started. Practice makes perfect. Improvise adapt and overcome.

Look forward to some other suggestions. A small step stool, soap dish, mail sorter key hook...... For the card holder I would add a backing block, when you're down to a few cards in the wider slot they will tend to fall backwards. The wall ladder could do with a few additional miter cuts to square it to the floor and wall. For the ones I've seen most are really roughed up to simulate age.

DIY Montreal, I like your ideas for simple gifts, well done. I am surprised at the 2 negative comments below. I actually made the candle holder and some other wooden items in a driveway workshop for the kids in the street where I live. The items were prepped in my workshop using only hand tools and the kids assembled them in my front driveway, using only hand tools and an electric drill. They were given to their parents as Christmas presents. They also helped me construct a couple of toys that we use when we have our street parties. I am waiting for the comments to my post like.....Gifts you can make if you own hand tools, otherwise perhaps not.....or.....I then take it to my hand tool....Wait, I don't have any hand to:/ etc etc I think they just like to add negative comments so they can keep reading them over and over again. Once again, thanks for a great video, and yes, I have subscribed to your channel.
