I really love 10:44 it reminds me of When I was younger like waaay younger. I would say like 7th and 8th grade. I had a habit of making half finished peices... most if them were watercolor or pastel and at times acrylic. And my art teacher (I was real close to him) would get frustrated at me because I never finished it and at the time I didnt relise the patience and trust that art takes but my teacher tried to teach me that to show me that all things beautiful take time. But me the thick headed person that I am would just discard it and start something new, going back to old ideas that had worked for me, doing the same thing over again because it was what I was good at. So one day I came in, it was the last day of school of my 8th grade year and my last class teacher had let me skip and come to the art room (she had no class then). And in there I saw my half finished pieces on the tables, all my landscapes and portraits. Outlined and shaded and with detail all with an ink pen. He says to me (I dont remember exact words), I want to show you to never give up on something because it was too hard or it didnt for you. The beauty of art is that one idea transforms to another and although it may not be that idea in your head it is still art. Art is such a forgiving passion because the mistakes you make are so easy to fix and so easy to learn from them. All these painting and works that you trashed because it wasn't the right blue? Or her skin was to pink or that light house was to big? Or the colors muddles together. This one you through away because you accidentally used black in the middle of the painting. But I am showing you now that wonderful things can be made out of the mistakes you made. That black smudge is now a tree. And the muddled waves of water are now more defined, all because of the works of one black pen and patience. Anyway my teacher said more but that's what stood out to me. So when I saw your painting and what you said about how she looked like a pig and how the colors muddled together but you then added the details with the fine liner and saw the prettiness in the portait you took me back in time and I feel like this painting just spoke to me. Everything about it from the way you painted her expression to the detail in her hair it just reminded to slow down and trust in the process. Thank you,

This is the best art related comment I've read in my life. I'm actually in tears right now because I never finsish any of my art pieces either because it's not perfect enough, takes too much time, I compare myself too much to others or I'm not patient and so many other things. I'm grateful to have seen this comment so thank you 😊

I love the one-by-one shots of the finished products, seeing them all together and all completed has made me really eager to make something this weekend. I haven't painted in a few months because of school, but for once I'm actually ahead and available this weekend and maybe I can play with my gouache :)

This video makes me feel less insecure about my art. I used to think my art was bad or people didn’t like it because it was different, and weird, and none of it seemed to go together. A lot of it was not super detailed or it was just blobs sometimes, your art reminds me that it doesn’t matter what it looks like, it’s the proses that counts ❤️

thank you for this video robin truly. i do art since i was a kid and regularly so during my teenage years, i never took art seriously, when my friend took an art class in school, i had this mindset that im never gonna do art seriously no matter how im always unconsciously inclined towards sketching and doodling wherever and whenever, growing up in Malaysia, an asian household, i dont have anyone in the family taking serious career in the creative industry so i guess i could never do it seriously. After i finished degree and was cleaning out my childhood bedroom, i cleared out all the sketches and paintings ive done, through out my life, i threw them away thinking its no use for me to look back at it and i don't want to grow attached to it. After working as "adult job" for awhile, i got back into doing art again, cuz only now i realized that it is a form of escapism, i may not be able to make a living out of it (yet or never) but im doing it because i enjoy it and it takes my mind of things, and it gives me great satisfaction when i finish a piece. Idk where im going with this but thank you for reminding that old sketches and old sketchbook is important to remind an artist of how far they've grown as an artist AND a person. I wish i can go back in time and not throw all of my sketchbooks away...

Hi Robin! I love all of your work but mostly I really connect with the art talks you give. I can deeply relate to all the advice you give about not loving all of the pieces you make where you're unsure of the end result or any mixed feelings that get attached to unfinished work, doubt, creative blocks, pressures to perfect things etc. The dark side of being an artist is constantly striving to be the best when that in itself is an impossible task. Art should be about expression and not about perfection. But tell that to the artists lol thank you for all your insight and humor, you truly are an amazing and talented girl! 💓💓💓👏👏👏👏

I’ve been subscribed to your channel since basically the very beginning and I always love your stuff but THIS!! I seriously feel like this is some of the most inspired and intriguing work you’ve done, cuz I can just feel how much FUN you were having with all of it!!! Watching you slowly move away from qualifying your art so strictly and now seeing the kind of creativity you can naturally produce, it’s so inspiring. I feel like this video is the biggest marker of change in all the content you’ve put out. I LOVE IT, now I’ve gotta go make art.

with my sketchbooks, i do feel less pressure because of an internal idea that i will not be showcases it to anyone. and so sometimes i do end up with things very different from what i normally make...especially in style. there's also a "diary" quality of keeping it secret and tucked away. which adds to my "just get these ideas out" version of creating that you mention. so watching you go back into these previously unshown works and turn them into a public showcase of work, to put them up for sale...really tips those ideas i hold about sketchbooks. and i like it! i like the idea of a quiet, personal sketchbook still holding plenty of chance to turn messy, experimental, idea-only things into something that doesn't need to be hidden. something, something, metaphors, something, something, art.

There's something about your videos and your art and your ideas and just sunshineyness in general that makes me feel motivated to do art. I know I'll always just do casual art or maybe something on the front of a birthday card or a small painting to put up in my room, but I enjoy it. Sometimes I feel like It's not good enough or I should be painting and stuff more formally, or that I'm wasting supplies because it almost never turns out exactly how I wanted, but I'm learning to accept some of the more imperfect parts of my art. Thank you for doing everything you do. :D

We are exactly doing the same thing. Condensing & organizing... Refining & playing with supplies. I like to save things by category & use as references & things I might deem junky I can use in collages. Focusing is hard sometimes. I drink decaf... but on days when i neeed to concentrate i drink high test. helps me alot. The clear sheet is a nice idea. Was thinking of mounting on foam core. thanks for sharing your ideas.
