6 Stupid Features I HATE On My 2021 Ford F150!

6 months and 10K miles in my 2021 Ford F150 has been good and bad.. In todays video we cover 6 things I've grown to hate in this truck!
The new generation F150 has a new feature called cylinder deactivation and it's in my opinion not something that is needed at all as it does not provide better fuel economy. This is only one of the things we mention in todays upload. This video is also a bit of an owners review as these annoying features has been something that has showed itself over time, I hope you enjoy the video!

My 2016 was haunted with electrical issues, every time i took it to the dealer it wouldn't show up on a scan because it didn't act up all the time, hated that truck. And the sound quality isn't the issue, it's build quality. To many loose panels

Lifting is stupid I lifted my 2014 Silverado and was over it a week later now I get much worse mpg on highway and I don’t drive above 67mph because of this

Number 3 is definitely the build quality of the truck, the speaker brand doesn't have anything to do with vibrations on door panels, its just not built well

At the end of the day, it's still a Ford pickup. In comparison to his C63, that car was the same price, if not more expensive, while being a smaller car. And both are being built to a price point. In the end, it's a premium car vs an everyday Joe's full-size truck, or quality vs quantity.

I agree with emdec55. Ford just wraps their cheap truck in leather and other nice materials to make it SEEM a little nicer. Underneath it all, it's still a Ford truck. If Ford built their trucks to the same level as Mercedes, their trucks would cost $150,000+.

#1 is a safety feature--trying to prevent accidental remote starts, particularly when your fob is in you pocket or purse or whatever. They want to make sure there's a deliberate act by the operator and not some random electrical contact glitch in the button(s).

That doesn't make sense. Most cars will shut off the remote start after 15 minutes and limits the amount of remote starts you can activate in between starting the car normally

One definite improvement on yours compared to my 2018 is that you can run the built-in Nav map as well as CarPlay features. On mine you cannot do that, you have to live with all CarPlay or nothing. Super annoying.

I owned a 2015 Silverado and rented a 2018 Ram, both had unique tells the cylinder deactivation was working. The Silverado's noise did not change but would shake when switching modes. Ram on the other hand had a noticeable sound difference on 4 cylinders like your F150 but was tolerable and couldn't hear it with the radio turned up a notch.

Has nothing to do with it being lifted, this is happening recently. Truck has been lifted for 6 months and never an issue

Hi Mike, my tech advisor keeps telling me that cylinder deactivation is for compliance with stricter emissions standards. Just like auto-engine start/stop, variable displacement technology allows manufacturers to meet tighter emissions targets with their current ICE offerings. Ford must now use every trick in the book to satisfy the EPA, an agency that uses compliance with the Clean Air Act to err on the side of less pollution versus fuel economy. Next stop, our Electric Future.

With respect to the fuel economy, what did your old truck get in its first 1000 miles? Although these modern vehicles don't have much of a break-in period, I have found my gas mileage got better after a few 1000 miles in comparison to brand new.

ABS and GAS is the lift and tires.... Go to Ford and see if they can recalibrate the system to read the highth differance and so... Yes it is a bummer on a brand new truck. Tomorrow I'm buying the 2021 with 3.5 EcoBoost... I hope I'm not screwing up getting it!! As for the B&O system I refused it, I have all of my Memphis belle stuff added which will rock that baby nicely.. Good luck and thanks for all your video's guy..

I have a 21 Lariat 502a almost the same spec as your new one, but unmodified and with the PowerBoost. The fuel economy gains I've had over my 2017 Limited (3.5 ecoboost, first year with the 10 speed) have been really strong. My combined average is 20.9 so far, 6k miles in. Before I modified my 2017, i was in the high 16s. I hate the new fob though, as you pointed out. I also don't like the fuel door release being a button on the dash now, and there are a couple of quirks on the digital dash and 12 inch screen that i wish were different. I am eagerly anticipating my email to activate blue cruise, as i ordered one that has the active prep 2.0 package. Looking forward to that.

I just purchased a 2021 f150 xlt,just completed a 3000 mile road trip. I found the cloth seats are probably the most uncomfortable seats I've ever had, plus when l tilt the steering wheel to a comfortable position it blocks the top row of gauges in the dash.and yes the audio system is really poor,having a button for the fuel door in the dash is absolutely a pain,the rest of the truck is pretty decent

There is a video on here where 2 guys remove a single wire from the battery that eliminates the MDS BS. Had the same issue in my car. I eliminated it. Gets same gas mileage on hwy. Maybe you can find those guys here on You tube.

I have a 2021 F150 that has has OVER 150 Pre-collision assist errors. When the Truck sat in the sun the alarm would come on and beep every 10 seconds. The dealership tried to fix it by replacing the control board and completely broke it. Now the pre-collision assist error comes on once at start up which is good but I no longer have adaptive cruise, regular Cruise, lane keeping or any of the safety features. Going on 4 months now waiting on the front camera to see if that fixes it.

Mike your 100% on all your complaints. I have a 2021 f-150 not as fancy as yours but I have issues that drive me crazy as well . My previous f-150 was a 2017 . I must say aside from the stereo issue and by the way that issue would drive me crazy pay more for something the trucks quality can’t handle would drive me crazy much of the sensor issues could and I say could be from the mods . The systen you are talking about, makes worst consumption of gas, the reason is because when the system goes from 8 to 4 cyl, trying get "better" consumption, the only thing is happening is, at any bridge or any hills the truck need more power then goes back to 8cyl, just right there that transition means more gas, so, what I see in this kind of system is if you are running in flat, "works, but if the road has bridge or any little hill the gas consumption is really horrible, that's what I saw in that kind of system.

I have a 2018 f150 xlt and the speakers are awful. Before that i had a fully loaded fusion. So coming from that, i felt like i was listening to music on an old record player. But... the truck is my favorite vehicle ive ever owned so i put up with it. And i can upgrade it whenever i want for real cheap. My dad works for bose, and i have a mechanic friend.

I have a 2021 3.5l eco boost non hybrid. I have 15k miles on her. Stock 20s and whatever rubbers around them. I get 15 mpg on the interstate and 18ish city. Now I know o have the Fx4 and the 8ft bed and 36gal tank. But the 18 city and 23 high way rated is total Bs. Also I wish I can de activate stability roll control (which is still enabled with traction control and advance track off)... then don't get me started with the transmission shifter going into Park while slowly moving. I have trailers and sometimes that door has to be open to see.

Just a couple things I want to nitpick from the 2ish months with my 21 Lariat sport. 1) I WISH you can permanently disable the auto start/stop feature. I know it takes a second to tap the button to turn it off but it would be nice to not have to deal with it every time I turn on the truck. 2) the digital gauge cluster is good, but not awesome. I do wish we had more freedom to customize the cluster. Compared to some other vehicles I’ve been in, it just doesn’t seem as developed. Good example is the mustangs digital dash. Very well thought out and well customizable. I know these trucks have over the air updates so maybe we can see some new features down the road? Overall I do love the truck. Arguably, it’s probably one of the best vehicles I’ve had so far.

check that your fuses and relays are fully seated. Lots of people on the forum found they were not fully seated from factory. Also, you have warranty, take it in?

Check out what happens when the heater control damper module goes out. 20 hours repair to replace a $20 part. The dash, seats and console has to be removed.

That 10 speed transmission is the issue, it's a joint cal with Ford and GM, and it sucks.... It's always hunting for the right gear ⚙... I think this should go back to the old 6 Speed transmission

The issue with the stereo system doesn't actually sound (no pun intended) like it's an issue with the stereo but rather with poor build quality of the doors and ceiling. If anything, the stereo is too good for Ford's infamous poorly built door panels and ceiling.

I had my truck for about 9 months and never had that issue happen before, now my issue is lack of parts because some lady hit me when she came off the freeway speeding and decided to just jump into the center lane (where I was driving)…so now I’ve been waiting on a steering knuckle and lower control arm for a little over 3-1/2 months.

Mike its the quality of the speakers. All those speakers in B&O system usually use paper cones and no sound proof material whatsoever inside door, panels or roof. Find good stereo place and change your speakers over to Focal brand ... even plug and play one not higher end Focals will sound 100 times better. If you want true sound experience change to Focal KX2's or even higher Focal Utopia. Combine this with good sound/vibration prrof material install in all the panels where speakers sit and you will be amazed. Also when it comes to cylinder deactivation ... WHIPPLE will be your friend 😉. Tune with their Supercharger will take care of it.

Great review! The best I have seen on 21 F150. I like the pacing. If some people think your pacing is too fast they can always go back and watch certain portions again. Stick with your own style.

Ok the sound system is not a valid point. If you’re getting too much vibration, it means the bass is really kicking, so just turn it down. My Explorer Sport does the same thing, but when you turn the bass down it’s fine, and it has the 500 wat Sony sound system so I’m not just talking from the base cheap speakers. The sound quality in my Explorer is even better than my headphones. You should go try turning up the bass in other cars, and you will find it does the same thing, it’s not just your truck.

From what I understand you gotta get a plug in that plugs into the obd2 port that inhibits the truck from going into the cyl. Deactivation mode and keeps it in v8 at least for the Silverados I assume there’s one for a Ford too

lol My silverado screen changed radio stations and even change the language ghosting. I would turn the infotainment off completely and then it would ask if I needed directions. They companies are not taking the time to test these systems properly, instead they sell them as quick as they can.

If your truck interior starts vibrating when you blast heavy bass sounds, it's symptomatic of two things. Check your settings with a spectrometer and have your ears checked. I've had a Ford Mondeo with a topnotch sound system from Ford and the sound was great. My wife has a Mercedes ML with Bose, and the sound is great. Al begins with the setup. Furthermore, when driving with those huge wheels with huge rubber-profile tires, the constant vibrations loosen the interior. By the way, AQUA is great to check the settings of your sound system! Try Blackstreet - No Diggity ft. Dr. Dre, Queen Pen . ( Advice from a veteran DJ )

I think perhaps the audio quality issue is just a one in a million issue with yours you should have checked out. I've never had any issues with it, neither has any of the ones ive been in otherwise

I’ve got a 2021 black opts F-150. Same issue with the chime brake system etc…., but took it into the dealer and fix it. Definitely should be some calibration issues with these lifted F-150… new software, new model… meaning will have bugs to work out for Ford.

Had my 21 for 5 months, 7500 miles. I am pretty disappointed in it. It feels cheap and they are most definately not priced cheap. The back up camera is Walmart quality at best. When I drive my accord it looks like a high def TV in comparison.

Ford just needs to get better with their cylinder deactivation. GM’s DFM is great. Can’t ever tell it’s happening and it can engage/disengage cylinders one at a time instead of just in banks of 4. AFM wasn’t so great and did have the oil burning issues. DFM is great.

2019 Chevy high country 6.2 10 speed here. I thought us Chevy owners were on our own but I see we’re not. Dfm sucks. It feels like the engine and the transmission are out of sync. Kind of feels like tranny is slipping. Also the the sound system. Ive got Bose and like you I like to bump my hip hop music but I have to keep my bass on 0/middle. If I go higher my doors will rattle. Very annoying. Love my truck but I’d be lying if I said it was perfect.

Cylinder deactivation is for fuel mileage, mandated by the government. If youre complaining about that, you should have done your research first. I have. 2021 platinum ecoboost that has 400hp and 500 lb ft torque, and tows 14,000 pounds. Thats more than the 5.0

Key FOB - something's wrong, take it in. Mine works 100% of the time and I do it quick. You've got a bad transmitter, possibly low battery or something GPS state info - try google maps Sound system rattling - you're hearing small measures taken to make the truck lighter. You should do a video on sound dampening material in the door panels. They'll lock down any rattling wires. V8 - the cylinder deactivation wouldn't harm oil life, it would improve it. You lifting it and putting it on bigger tires, causing it to have to work harder, is the issue I think. MPG - this could entirely be caused by tweaks still needed to be made on the computer system. Also, keep it out of ECO mode. Normal is better for some reason, at least in the powerboost. False flag collision warnings- ABSOLUTELY 1000% are linked to you lifting the truck. It needs to be properly calibrated by a dealership. Now, here are MY complains so far: 1 - the "My Trip" settings aren't retained. I have to add each section every time I start the truck. 2 - The last driving mode isn't the one the truck starts with. It would be nice to just have it start up in Sport mode if that's what I shut it down in. 3 - "My Key" is essentially only used for teenagers and doesn't have any customization useful for an adult. Also, defaults to filtering certain XM channels (I don't know how to turn that off.) Useless feature only meant for letting teenagers drive your car. 4 - The truck could easily have a feature where it locks itself when you move the key FOB x ft away from it. They need to implement this in an update. 5 - This one lines up with your chime complaint: "Keep both hands on the wheel" warning chimes too quickly, and also there's a chime telling me when lane centering turns off. I get it, they need to make me aware of it, but I'd love to set the volume LOL 6 - This one's annoying AF - no ability to adjust gauge screen brightness separate from the rest of the truck. I'd love to have that screen at about 50% brightness at night while all the buttons across the dash are at 100%. They're linked though, and 50% on the buttons is annoying at night.

My 2017 f150 with the 5.0 was better on fuel then my 2021 xlt with the 5.0 and I paid the extra for the b and o system and I'm not overly happy with it

Any idea how much weight you have added with your lift kit & all other accessories? I know in the winter I put 3 -50 lb sand bags in the box & notice the difference in mpg.

That B and O system in any Ford sounds bad. I had it my 18 gt350 and 20 f150. Both were terrible. Just got rid of them both and bought a new german ride and the upgraded system is a world of difference. If I ever buy another ford I won't take that option and just do it myself.

There is no such thing as a good stock stereo. Certainly not in Fords. I always go aftermarket. my 2020 F450 has some pretty good sound actually. I was quite surprised. Its a big white commercial truck. Side note - love the 7.3 Big Block. Pulls 18000 lb truck no sweat. Not fast - but just right.

What axle ratio in the new compared to the old ? I have the same truck and ordered my 2018 with 3.55 . Then when i ordered my 2021 5.0L 4x4 as the 2018 but got 3.75 gears on the 2021 and i love the the acceleration ont he new but gas mileage is by far worse.

Nice truck! Usually i hate ford Europe models but the American models looks way better. New cars have worse fuel consumption I think it takes like 1500-2000km to get it Right ( not sure exactly) . So if you change the tires after 3 weeks you didn't get to the optimal one. After the lifting it could be that the 4 cylinders power map dont match such a heavy coils wheels combination. I'm considering putting cooper AT tires on my SUV but the dry braking performance and the fuel consumption is holding me back.
