I don't know about the American Aldi of course, but here in Germany, where Aldi was founded, their cleaning products and things like paper towels always belong to the best in tests of independent consumer organizations. They are mostly even better than expensive ones.

Fabi Grossi I agree with you. Here in Australia their cleaning products and more are great. Also come in top 5 in independent testing.

Also in Ireland their cleaning products are approved by the good housekeeping institute and the washing powder and washing up liquid have won which Best Buy awards.

Totally agree with you on flavored drinks. The only time I ever break that habit (maybe 1-2x/month) is for kombucha, because I just love the taste of it. I keep meaning to learn to make my own at home.

ALDI is my favorite grocery store too. I agree with this list, except the pastries. A lot of times, they have 1 or 2$ off stickers on them. I watch for those, but since I have a fam of 5, they devour them before I get a piece LOL. It's cheaper than baking. The 6 pack of glazed donuts is their fave. I recently got two of the danish for only 1.29 each for a teacher's breakfast, just peeled the red stickers off. TFS
@BrokeAristocrats6 жыл бұрын
Good for you for not buying the pastries. I sometimes break down and buy the cranberry loaf and Trader Joe's--so good and naughty. So glad you are taking care of your health. :-) Health is that thing we do based on our choices from moment to moment.

Everything varies by region, so this may not be the case all over, but the Aldi equivalent of Scott Tissue toilet paper is about $1.50 less than the store brand alternative in my regular grocery store. I find it very painful to pay the higher price when I am forced by circumstance to do so.
@OhMaryJo6 жыл бұрын
Aldi has the best price on evaporated milk. I use it in my coffee and tea, so I get it 12 cans at a time. The last time i bought it the price increased from .69 a can to .85 a can! Still the best price I’ve found.
@ouvickie6 жыл бұрын
LOL! I had to laugh when you blamed the pastry fail on Jacob. Poor guy. Hahaha! Through trial and error I've figured out what isn't a good deal for me at Aldi - chips, multi-pack fresh veggies, canned veggies, pastries and ice cream. The sweets I just don't need in my diet. The chips don't get eaten - apparently hubby and the grandkids don't like the taste; and the veggies- both fresh and canned. I loathe extra packaging on the fresh veggies - and I usually only need half of what they package. The canned veggies - I prefer certain brands, so most of what they have aren't what I need. I don't buy my staples there either, I have certain brands I like, so I just find the best deal on those somewhere else.

Yeah, I give my cat the absolute best brand possible, and it ain't cheap. But I budget for it, even as I'm working on paying down the debt. Her health and life is far too important to be worried about "deals". That being said, this brand OFTEN has coupons and there are frequently sales on the brand at Pet Supplies Plus. Chewy is not cheaper for this brand. Plus, there is a store about 1/4 mile from my office so YEAH, I stop there on the way home. Or just jump down during lunch.

@kaelaleedaley6 жыл бұрын
How different! We regularly buy cleaning products and bathroom essentials at Aldi as they don't test on animals and they are considerably cheaper than other supermarkets in the UK. We never buy: pre-prepared sandwiches, tinned Veg (we grow our own or buy fresh), fresh milk - we get the uht milk which is cheaper, we never buy sliced bread as we make our own, pasta sauce and seed mixes x

Definitely not pop. I do like diet pop, but Aldi is WAYYY more expensive! Rite Aid, Walmart or even Dollar General are much cheaper. I actually downloaded an app called Flipp that helps me compare and it's been a big help!

Their bananas never get ripe. Paper towels are too thin. Liquid dish detergent will not cut grease. Laundry detergent too pricey for what it is. And I am with you on their chicken salad...pretty gross in my book. BUT I am a dedicated Aldi shopper and have found so many of their products that I just love and the prices cannot be beat in my town. So maybe only about 5 % or so of their stuff is not great. 95% is!

I don’t buy Aldi’s slices of “American cheese.” A lot of their other cheeses are great, but I’d rather skip over it and go to a place with a deli for it. I also don’t like there frozen pierogies. I’m really a brand snob with those. I also don’t care for their lactose free milk. Otherwise, I love almost all of Aldi’s offerings.

I don't buy frozen fruit & veg from Aldi unless absolutely desperate. I can get a 4 lb bag of mango for $8 from Wegmans or 5-6 12 oz bags for $2.99 ea from Aldi. One 5 lb bag of frozen broccoli is about $5 in most grocery stores, vs $1.99 x 5 1 lb bags of frozen broccoli at Aldi. Not worth it for the amount of fruit & veg I go through.

Rory would be in doggy heaven if she came to my house. I'm vegetarian but I cook for my three dogs: natural, hormone and antibiotic-free chicken breasts or thighs, sweet potatoes, broccoli and sardines thrown in for Omegas. Once a week they get poached salmon instead of the chicken. Before that, they ate Royal Canin and that's what my cats eat as they're not interested in people food or canned food. With a better quality food you feed less and the animal poops less, definitely a bonus when you have to clean it up!

When I worked for Barnes and Noble 20 years ago, they had the same policy and that was before smartphones and youtube took over the world. It's more of a "This is our business. This is our brand we spend millions to advertise and market and you ain't coming in and using our property to screw that up." And technically it is their property and they are within their rights to show you the door. Go record your video on the sidewalk.

I've only been to Aldi twice and the first time I walked around and out again without buying anything. Second time I went because I'd heard their Girl Scout cookie knock-offs were good and they were - for less than half the price. I bought some vegetarian sausages to try but wasn't impressed with those. I don't like pre-packaged fruits and vegetables. For all people rave about Aldi's I've never seen more than two or three cars in the parking lot when I drive by.
