Another cool fact: Mermaids live longer. On normal lifespan, elder Mermaid Sims get between 30-40 bonus days, whereas normal Sims usually get about a week. If you combine it with max fitness and the "Long Lived" reward trait, you can have a Sim live a VERY long time. I tried this once and my Sim ended up with over 150 bonus days as an elder. He lived long enough to see his eldest great-grandchild reach adulthood.

@@camerynh They nerfed aliens SO fucking hard in Sims 4. We lost our alien abduction and invasion abilities since we don't have a UFO we can drive. We also lost our summon meteoroid and absorb space rocks abilities too. It sucks. An update for aliens and merfolk would be nice.

Vampires only drain you to replenish their thirst which only takes a chunk out of the drained sim's energy bar. Mermaids however take things to a whole new level.

Adding to point two, they also get sad when they see fish on the wall and I believe they're also able to mourn their fish friend since it's not alive anymore

But then again, Merfolk can be among the best of fisherman job. What? Merfolk are *expected* to be vegan? Why should they limit themselves to eating kelp & seaweed when there's so many fish available? If anything, they would more logically be omnivores anyway. Making friends with dolphins isn't a problem because dolphins (& whales too) are far more intelligent than fish, as well as being mammals (definitely not classified as fish). Besides, having hair & the ability to change into a perfectly functioning land-walker, Merfolk are more closely linked to humans in general & mammals in particular than anything else. I could understand Merfolk maybe considering certain specific individual fish as friends or pets, but it shouldn't stop them from eating fish in general, as a normal part of their diet.

Mermaids can call over a dolphin in the swimable areas in other worlds too and they can summon an ocean threat in a pool.

Ooh, the mask is new! And honestly, I hadn't realized I could meet other mermaids by using the conch shell - game changer! (I feel like mermaids deserve so much more in the game, including a freshen-up sometime!) I expect nothing less from Petey videos, which improve my gameplay with every view! This is definitely less of a feature and more of a hilarious bug in the game, but in two different saves I had a mermaid get pregnant from an alien and a vampire respectively. In both cases, it kinda... messed with their chileren's genetics, especially when they reached teen age. Opening up CAS with these freaks of nature made it so male crossbreeds were invisible from the waist down, and female crossbreeds were invisible from the chest down. I haven't yet tried this with a Mermaid and a Spellcaster, but I'm guessing it has something to do with conflicting second forms, something only gained as a teenager. And it only works with pregnancies, not playing with genetics in CAS.

This is currently my favorite expansion pack but i wish we got to see and do some underwater exploration. In the sims 3 island paradise you can explore underwater or befriend the kraken like a real mermaid, in this one you sadly can’t

Siren's Call can cause elderly sims to die of exhaustion! It was pretty shocking the first couple of times i did it because usually, Sims aren't so directly responsible for another Sim's death. I play mermaids a lot and never even thought to put a facemask on one! I had been wanting to do an urban mermaid for a long time and that's going to be perfect.

Unfortunately, you can't build your own apartment buildings or penthouses like in San Myshuno. However, if you have Discover University, you could build or download one and just use roommates to populate it.

Mermaids CAN climb ladders from the water. You just can't tell them to do it, had my sims live in a penthouse and my mermaid Sim would always use the pool, whenever she got out she would always climb the ladder but only after she changed back to human form

Two major features about mermaids you forgot to mention is that #1, mermaids are 65% less likely to be attacked by sharks or get the "death by shark", and #2 mermaids CAN'T drown when their energy bar depletes to zero. They automatically fall asleep in the water. About the shark fact, I know this because of two reasons number one finding out from an anonymous source on the media, and two experiencing it for myself. I had two Sims in my household, one mermaid and one human. Everytime my mermaid Sim had a shark encounter I never died, but when my human Sim had a shark encounter they got the scared moodlet, I left them in the water for two extra minutes then my human Sim died. Now to the people who are reading this comment, I'm not implying that mermaids absolutely cannot die by "death by shark" I'm just saying the "death by shark" is very rare for a mermaid, hence the reason as to why I love the mermaid race.

Mermaids don’t like sushi or other dishes involving fish, they will be sad and throw it up. I only know this because I played the Alien scenario and my scientist sim married a mermaid. She made him dinner, not my command, and it was a fish related dish. So he ended up throwing up and she was very pleased with the dish. Talk about sadistic humor 😅

hot take i think mermaids are fine in ts4, the reason they're so hated is that you can't really dive underwater like you could in TS3, where, if you were a mermaid you didn't need any diving equipment, could stay underwater for as long as you wanted and you wouldn't have been bothered by sea creatures. What's missing from TS4 mermaids is not related to the mermaids themselves, but to the pack in general. If you compare Island Paradise and Island living, the amount of activities that are lacking (resort management, houseboats, actual lifeguard gameplay, underwater diving spots, undisclosed locations to discover and more) is staggering.

I agree it's really the world itself that falls short of opportunities to distinguish them. There's a lot of water in Sulani, but there isn't much to do in it aside from Swim Around which normal Sims already do. Aside from their powers, mermaids become most interesting when you take them away from the beach and design houses around their hydration needs like pools in place of bedrooms. They overlap well with Plantsims.
