I liked when you mentioned not reading when you're drunk or the person is drunk, because the funny thing is that when I met the tarot, it was in a party and we were all drunk, haha. And I was drunk as hell, and I was very, very skeptical like "what? you want to read cards and you think it'll talk about me? pfft" but yes, I let the guy read to me anyway because we were starting to be friends and he was nice. And it was so amazing because he said very deep things about my life, and I was so shocked & surprised, I couldn't believe. The next day, we were all with a huge hangover, headaches, and we sat to breakfast and talking we decided to read for everyone, because everyone knew about personal issues of one another. And it was such an incredible experience, we cried together, everyone shared a lot about themselves, it was so much powerful I can't describe. After that, I started to learn tarot to understand myself, talk to myself, see the big picture, and it changed me. I'm still learning, I started to read to some other people (just people I know), and it's been very, very constructive for me. Now, once or twice a year when we're together and drunk, we read tarot to each other and it's always very nice to be able to talk and share it, it's like a nostalgic tradition. I believe all this is for sure a very specific scenario and I strongly agree with you that people shouldn't read with alcohool, but it's also a very different experience that I wanted to share with you. I think the tarot can happen in many ways that sometimes we don't even understand, and I'm very glad about it.

Thank you for all of these good tips. Although you were referring to professional readers, I think they are useful tips for personal readers too. Especially the parts about self-care -- whether taking care of yourself mentally or physically -- giving your body or mind time to recover from stress or sickness. Also, as a newbie, I have to add that Noel's Numinous kickstarter is where I found out about you (or maybe his twitter?). It's great that there are so many kind people in this community willing to share good advice on how to practice tarot. I know I would be otherwise overwhelmed if it weren't for people like you giving amazing wisdom. So thank you for making your youtube channel, and making videos like this.

I so identify with only having been drunk once or twice in my life, and not being attracted at all to harder drugs. As a musician I also can’t imagine playing drunk, and I don’t understand people who do. I feel that I owe myself and the audience all my energy and focus... and to honor my craft. Very similar thought process. Yes, I too would say I’m “straight laced” to explain it to others, but it’s just a personal choice. I also have chronic illnesses and it’s a part of managing my energy and ability. Thank you for these, and for your refreshing self honesty.

Great video - definitely agreeing with you that its most important about checking in with yourself and knowing within yourself as a person when its good to read and when to say no. So apt and I just wouldn't read, esp if I was having a meltdown day lol or an emotional loss etc - due to chronic daily pain and conditions Id never read (or work) if I didn't work along the pain but as you say it's something you learn to put aside when you can (not all time). As a therapist that's something learned and practiced lots so I feel it has helped the tarot in this way, however I don't read for people professionally so only as and when I feel up to it for practice. I would totally not read on a particularly horrendous flare up. Thanks for mentioning that reading for friends and family - I am going to find that link and send it to a pal. They read for family and it didn't go well. I read for some pals but only ones open, ready to hear and when I am able to separate. Not fam although they keep asking, it's a firm no. LOL no reading for the wasted love this - I've heard so stories about this going wrong so can totally get this. Looking forward to seeing others responses and stories to this. Loved this video! I only got back into tarot after I got sober, so I haven't read under the influence and I'm not sure I would be able to do so productively! I have read a couple of times for people when they've been a bit drunk, but it was more a fun thing than it was a serious spiritual exploration... and I was sure to have their glass of wine far away from my cards! 😅

I got interested in tarot around two years ago but really got my first deck just January this year and it's been amazing journey. Ethony I just thought your little 11.0 class was great some videos I passed through some I watched fully but what I find to me anyway as a meet thing is I am a single mother as well only I didn't have tarot in my life as my two babies was young and I so wish I had them but I didn't but my children are 24 and 21 years of age now and I think it's really a coincidence that in my two years I think the one thing in common with allot of readers is where single moms or just plain single people but I can't wait to get your bitches deck it looks marvelous and I am buying my daughter a deck as well so keep up your great work!

The worst case scenario, which I think happens to nearly all tarot readers is this: You've only been reading the cards for a short time, but you're kinda desperate to actually get to do practice readings for real people with real questions. Then your close friend/sister/cubicle mate has a complete life meltdown and wants you to read cards for them.. so much potential for utter drama.

I have a friend who asked me to never read cards that had to do with her. She considered it a breach of privacy and consent. She is my best friend and so it can get hard to keep to this especially when we are fighting.

I agree with your friend. Trying to find out info, energies, situations or whatever without their consent is definitely an invasion of privacy. Being a friend doesn't give one the right to "snoop" as it were. If I found out a friend of mine did that to me without asking first, they might not be a friend any longer. They would definitely need to find out what boundaries are.

I find it alarming that your friend felt she had to ask you to not to spy on her. And you actually need to stop yourself from spying. Sure it is tempting to spy. I myself feel tempted. But it is disrespectful and your guides surely don't appreciate that. Act in a way that no-one ever feels the need to ask you not to spy on them, dude.

Great video Anthony! I totally agree with not reading Tarot when sick. I have read Tarot after a few drinks but never at the point of drunkness. I didn't feel my reading style change. But then again I have an incredibly high tolerance for alcohol. There was a time I read at a bar and the person I read for accidentally spilled his beer on my deck. Obviously, it was an act of clumsiness and luckily the deck was an easily replaceable deck. So now, I am a bit more reluctant to read at bars anymore. Or rather make sure that they don't have a drink that could be spilled on the cards. It's a horrifying sight. This was an informal light-hearted reading and not a client reading of course. Learning to leave stuff at home is so crucial. ScarletMoon did a great video about the Doreen Virtue incident. I won't read for people in an extreme crisis but they won't hear what I have to say anyway.

I needed to sit with this video for a minute. I do not read as a job. I do consider myself a tarot reader - and I do have some ethics when I do readings for other people. But I guess, if you are not a professional, you end up reading for those who are close to you. My friends, my family, my kids' friends... Can I tell what will happen in the future? no, but I can give you a way to look at your path to the future. I have definitely been wrong - and/or looked back at a reading and thought...hmmm if I had looked at this slightly differently it might have been more helpful. But this is the nature of things. I would not begin any reading without having a short chat (at least) with the person about their expectations. But communication can be tricky, what is in my brain, comes out of my mouth, goes into your ear - when it finally reaches your brain...may be not what I meant at all. It happens. The question of drunk tarot? or stoned tarot. It depends....There is a quality of otherworldlyness when you are in that state of mind. It can be a shamanic journey with the self, or someone else who you are comfortable with and is in the same state....I plan it out before I start. so I'm not struggling to find anything, and definitely have a notebook and writing implement so you can remember what you were thinking - because when you come back to earth, you are often a different person. But the "crazyweed" can be used as a part of tarot ritual FOR sure.

Lol I do live-streams where I read for people casually and I smoke all during so sometimes I’m super stoned and I feel i channel better stoned 🤣🤣 no upset or annoyed people I read for ☺️💚🌿

Interesting thought, I use cannabis oil for medical reasons, and I don't get stoney because of my tolerance. This plant levels me out, do you think that will effect the readings? (I'm generally overly anxious.)

When I first began reading professionally I had a regular group of lovely ladies that would get me so stoned while I read their cards. I read anywhere from 6-10 ladies in one marathon run and doing it stoned was one hell of an experience! I apparently did give spot on readings and a following grew from those smokey ladies nights, but it is not something I would do regularly. On the other hand, I have read the cards when just a little buzzed and it opened me up more to the more subtle messages of the cards and lowered my empathic shields just enough to get a good clear read. Those readings were also scary accurate. Now I am stone cold sober and still giving professional readings and nothing has suffered, Ihave even branched out to include online readings and have international clients.

What do you do if you see something really bad in the forecast? Do you TELL the client or just skim the surface?

I tell my clients. It is all in the delivery and giving them choices and options to empower their futures.

Pace yourself. Give yourself only a set amount of hours and take care of your body, mind and spirit. Clock off fully when you are not reading.
