I followed this video down to the smallest detail. 5 days I commented that my 9 month old kitten hated my new kitten , we were on day 3 .. but we’re on day 8 now and they’re best buddies today. They slept together on the sofa , they were grooming each other. Playing peekaboo in the pop up tunnel, I’ve only had to separate them once today. I’m so happy they’re getting along !!

im on the same situation, my 8 month old hates the new 1 month old kitten :(, what do you recommend? it's day 3 and at least the old cat can now tolerate the kitten being within 3 feet of distance from her, but any closer she's hissing and in distress. Still progress since in day 1 the mere smell the kitten left on our clothes was enough to make her hiss and send her into hiding! She still doesnt like the smell if it's too strong lol.

My husband and I are not first time cat owners, but the cats we had prior to our current ones belonged to his sister before they belonged to us. After we lost Max last year (the last of his sister's cats) to Old age, we adopted Chip. And he was the first one either of us ever went out and chose. After a while though, we noticed that he seemed to get lonely when we weren't home, so we adopted a friend for him named Bitty. So this is the first time we've had to introduce cats to each other. On paper, with what we knew about the process at the time, Bitty seemed like she would be a good fit. She's close to Chip's age and she was listed as "good with other cats." But as her name implies, she's small and she's timid. And Chip grew since we got him, so now he's rather large compared to her, and has started chasing her around the house all the time. We've got separate food/literboxes, etc. And we make sure to play with him to help burn off that energy, but he still chases Bitty when she doesn't seem to want to be chased. We're still looking for solutions. This is the first time we've had to introduce cats to each other

I’m introducing 2 cats right now that I got at the same time, they are also the only cats in the house and I’ve tried the slow introduction process with a couple of exceptions. One is male and 1 year old, gentle, seemingly passive, anxious (trembles mildly when he leaves his hiding spot). The other is 5 months old, female. She is very confident, still learning not to use her claws for everything, likes a lot of activity. The first time I introduced them briefly the younger cat just hissed and tried to attack the older cat, the older cat gently pat her then went to his hiding space, I decided to let them remain separate for the day. The second time, I used treats and a laser to interrupt any signs of aggression, minimal hissing, and no stalking, but they start using 1 (of 2) litter boxes, repeatedly trying to claim it back and forth multiple times. The younger cat starts to swipe, the older cat this time reciprocated but no blood, or injuries thankfully. The older cat again goes to his hiding place. I decide to separate them again. 😞 How can I give the anxious cat more confidence and the younger cat more chill?
@monsieurtn3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Looks like the younger cat has a bunch of energy that you might need to expend before they meet. That will help a lot. For confidence, this is easy! Just give them spots that they can escape without the younger one following. In this situation the only time you want them to be together is: 1. After the kitten had a good play session 2. When they're both hungry!

I'm going through this right now. I already had two male tabbies. One is 14 yrs, the other 2 years. Rescues. I brought the two year old home when he was one 1 year old and it went pretty good. They are now friends. But, fast forward to two weeks ago. I rescued a feral cat who has been living in bushes outside a grocery store. He has had a rough life, and to my knowledge only been around other cats he had to fight for food. I had him neutered, micro chipped, he had so many fleas and ear mites and was rail thin. Now, he is doing great with me. Wants to be held constantly and loved on. I have put him in my home office and put a screen door up so the cats can see each other. I feed them right at the screen door so they can see each other and eat together. My two year old wants to be friends SO bad. He and the feral cat actually mimic each other, roll on their backs and stare at each other upside down. No growling, no puffed tails. But when I let him out so they can be together, my 2 year old is just TOO excited for a friend and wants to be close right off the bat. So the feral jumps him and he is terrified. I haven't even tried to introduce the 14 year old. I'm afraid the feral cat will have to live alone in my office forever. H-E-L-P!

It has taken this long for us to finally let the babies run around the house with the other two. The last three nights were a bit nerve racking but so far, other than getting our toes bit up the first night, things are better than I thought. The babies are wonderful. There is still hissing and growling from the adults but no violence. Everyone is just curious and cautious. The biggest problem is the adults are less active and the babies want to get to know them and sometimes run right up to them and the adults get annoyed and hiss or growl. But we try to always have a treat when everyone is together and we pet and talk to everyone the same. No admonishing.

I have four cats, all female. Misha about a year old, the last one I adopted arrived about a month ago. I did not perform the no isolation method, always watching all of them. During the firsts weeks, no many hiccups on the early days, all worked fine, everyone arrived to eat when I poured food on their separate dishes, no problems with the litter box. But as time grew by, Schnell the youngest of the original cats, around three years old, became aggressive towards Misha. I had a two week trip planned and I hoped that my brother, who is my roommate, was able to take care of the bunch, his girlfriend ran into some serious responsibilities, leading to a minimum care for the cats. As I returned from the trip, I found that the relationship between Schnell and Misha worsened. I isolate Misha for a couple of days, but she keeps meowing. I have tried to be present with all of them trying to keep the environment tranquil. Aggressions have lowered by a bit, but what would you recommend in this situation. I have noticed that Misha marks territory and I believe that upsets Schnell?

Im experiencing quite the opposite right now. We just got a kitten a couple of days ago and we already had a 4yo cat. The kitten feels right at home (no hiding what so ever) and is the one starting hissing at my adult cat! He even showed signs of wanting to spray the door the adult cat uses to go outside (we have stopped that from happening a couple of times and are keeping him away from the door now). The adult cat is outside a lot now avoiding the kitten (he always goes out when the kitten is walking around too) and he only hisses at the kitten when he comes too close or near his food. We are really sad for our adult cat and are wondering whether we should bring the kitten to live with this brother who is adopted by a friend of ours. 😔
@monsieurtn3 жыл бұрын
That's a confident kitten! Yes, it can be difficult to do introductions when one cat has outdoor access since you have to figure out a time when the cats are together to do the food or play strategies. For the spraying problem, the kitten is showing that the door is an important area for it to put its scent there. Maybe consider putting a litter box or scratching post near to that area so the kitten can put its scent in other ways (and not spraying). How old is the kitten? If he's old enough to spray or wants to spray, then maybe it's a good idea to get him neutered just in case it becomes a habit.
@icroknit28953 жыл бұрын
@@monsieurtn The wierd thing is that he is only 12 or 13 weeks old, so it's quite early to spray I believe. But I don't know what else an elevated shaking/vibrating butt towards the door could mean =') So neutering will probably take some time as here it is advised to do that around 6 months old. We are working on getting the kitten in a feeding routine, he was free fed when he was living with his mom and siblings. Trying the hunt, catch, eat, sleep thing but it is not as easy as it sounds ^^' But I will sure look into something to get his scent there without the need to spray, thank you for the tips!

I am doing my best introducing my 2 yr old female cat to the new 3 month old female kitten. I have the kitten in a spare bedroom. Her food, water, litter box, toys and bed are in there. I put a piece of plexiglass infront of the door. Both cats can see each other and I feel better knowing each are safe. I have put the older cat in another part of the house and let the kitten roam the house for a bit - putting her scent around. On day 7 I let them be in the same area together. It went well, minimal hissing from older cat. I did this 3 times that day for about 10 minutes each time. I did this again the next day. This morning I had them in the same area and I saw and heard the older cat hiss and growl at the kitten. I quickly tried diverting their attention to toys. I am terrified that if I let them stay in the same area together - someone will get hurt. I've had the older cat for a little over a year. I rescued her from the shelter when she was 11 months old. Anyone have any advice for me on two adult bonded males, 5 and 6, lived together their whole lives, surrendered to a cat rescue, fostered because they were hiding and not eating, adopted by me and everything was great. Two weeks in, something scared one at night, misplacing the aggression on the other. Now, they both act like they have never met. The initial fight was shockingly violent, in the middle of the night, but no injuries and the aggressor has been in isolation since last Thursday. Just now coming out of hiding but isolated behind a screen, still snarling and hissing at the other cat and an occasional hiss and growl for me. Any ideas for reducing the reacquaintance stress and trauma? Will they ever be able to cohabite and be left together at night?

Any thoughts on introducing a 6-8 month old cat (male recently nuetered) who was an outdoor cat to 2 year old brother and sister cats as well as a 3 year old male? The problem seems to be with the younger cat, He is super chill with humans however he immediatly attacts the older cats. He has been isolated now in a room for 10 days, We have done the food and treat trick on opposite sides of the door. We have swapped bedding for scent recognition, We have let the new cat explore the rest of the house (while the others were sleeeping) Even got a cat harness and leash to be able to control any aggression if he escapes from his area. Which he did once and immediately attacted the older cats and me when I was seperating them. Also note that we have 3 of the pheramone diffusers around the house. Just give it more time?

Thank you so much!! A lot of useful information!! I have a quick question. I live by myself in an apartment with my 9 month old cat. I adopted her last year. She is usually calm but I am nervous bringing a kitten home. I have plenty of time to supervise since I'll be on vacations and now I know I will get another female kitten for better adjustment. But since I am by myself, what would you recommend the sleeping arrangements to be? My cat usually roams around at night then wakes me up for cuddle time. Thank you!!

I have read from multiple sources that same-sex cats are more prone to fight each other for dominance. Therefor it might be better to adopt one thats the opposite sex. But have them neutered n spayed. Just thought I should mention it since the video said otherwise.

I had a question about the age-gap. I have a older cat of 14 that is still extremely playful, has the zoomies a lot and in general is pretty restless when it comes to breaking my appartement down. But also super cute and cuddly! My initial thought would be to get a kitten since they would probably vibe more compared to introducing a older cat that just wants to sleep most of the day. Is my decision for a kitten in this case a good idea?

I’m introducing my Russian Blue mix to my new ragdoll kitty as of yesterday but I’m trying a different technique….I have brought my kitten out of my room in her cat carrier that used to belong to my Russian blue mix and setting boundaries for her to meeting the new kitty. They have not met up close out of the carrier yet but there’s been a lot of progress with this technique. I’m taking it at a slow pace due to my cat’s temperament and the fact my ragdoll is pretty curious.

I think it depends what kind of cats you have. I have a 15 year old who lost her brother a year ago. I thought it was time maybe for her to have a friend bc I’m not home much and travel a lot for work and I have to bring her with me. I watched videos , read etc and went to shelter three times trying to figure it out. I thiight I found a good match. An 8 year old that was already in a home with a sibling. I tried everything from swapping blankets , rooms , the screen. Nothing worked. My 15 year old was attacking the door at 3, 4 5 am. Attacking the screen door , she stopped popping , ate less. However , I didn’t have much time to try to do this introduction. I have to travel a lot for work and have to take her with me and I just can’t take two cats with me who can’t be together for 2 seconds. I’m bringing the adopted cat back to shelter soon. I’m calling them tomorrow to schedule a time to bring him back. I think you need a lot of time and patience to do this. I don’t have time or patience for this. I know I will not ever be trying this again

hi, so i have a resident 8month and i just recently adopted another 8month tabby about 2 days ago now and so far i have been doing the traditional introduction. but since i live with my mother and 2 other siblings we dont exactly have the room in our apartment to continue to do the traditional for much longer. considering i don’t have my own room in this apartment and im borrowing my brothers to do separation. both cats are sweethearts when alone but just seem to be very territorial off of first eye contact. i didnt like the sight of any growling or hissing whenever they come into sight of eachother so i immediately shut it down whenever it goes left but the more i watch your videos and read comments the more i learn that hissing and growling is not the biggest problem. even though i started off with the traditional method i want to drop it and just try your method of just letting them figure it out with proper guidance and rewarding. i do have one question though how do you feel about punishment as in spraying a water bottle at them when they hiss and growl and immediately shutting down the negative staredown as soon as it happens. would you consider starting off the traditional process only to drop it? is that ideal?

It takes WEEKS. Hissing and running is really good. What I would worry about is an aggressive cat that bites and scratches when threatened. Play with both of them when they're in the room together. Feed them their favorite treats at the same time. Feed them meals together. It took me 3 weeks to get my cats to like each other and now they are best friends.

What if I am introducing a Mature spayed female (8 years old) to a Senior spayed female (12 years old)?

Hi! I'm in the process of introducing my resident 4-year-old cat to a six-month old kitten with a broken leg. The kitten has been prescribed cage rest and has to be monitored closely when he's out of his crate to make sure he isn't running, jumping, or climbing. This has made the introduction process pretty tricky, so I wanted to see if anyone has any advice. My partner and I did quarantine the kitten in a separate room for two weeks, which has been complicated because our apartment is so small, and resident cat seems a bit unhappy about having part of her territory cut off. We now have the kitten's crate in the bedroom during the day, and the resident cat in the main living area, and then in the evening we switch them. The only other room is the bathroom, which is not an option because it's too small for the crate to even fit. We started having them on opposite sides of the same room at dinner time, with one of us holding the kitten in a chair and the other playing with the resident cat. We've now gotten the kitten a harness so he can be on leash and walk around a little, and this seems to have been a breakthrough. The cats can now approach and sniff each other without any concern that the kitten might go running off and hurt his leg. I feel like we are on the right track, but about half of these little approach-and-sniff events ends without incident, and the other half of the time, someone hisses. Resident cat also sometimes goes to hide under the table, and the kitten cries at her. He seems to really want to play with her, and they both LOVE to play. But it's been a little over two weeks, and they still seem very cautious of each other. We don't want to hover too much, but we do need to be near the kitten with the leash so we can intervene quickly and easily if it seems like he might get hurt. He doesn't seem very aware of his injury at this point, and he obviously wants to run and jump around and do normal kitten things. I'll probably take another 3 weeks or so before he's cleared to do that, though. Does anyone have any experience with introducing cats when one of them is injured and needs to have their movement limited? Any advice on how to keep this process going smoothly? Thank you so much in advance!

Not sure how much, if any aggressive I should allow between my 1 year old cat and my 11 week old kitten. The okder one "fixates"... regardless of food , laser toys etc... Once this begins...all he wants to do is chase, mount and bite his neck. I try to leave it for a second so he can establish his dominance. But then the kitten will cry out(no blood) and I try to stop it and separate them again for another try. What are your thoughts?

Our two female rescue cats attack my rescue female cat. We have 4 cats, an older male & 3 females. The male we've had since he was a kitten, a rescue we named Mira showed up , a kitten, just before Winter & we took her in. Mira was fearless, attacking everything including dogs walking by. About 7 months later we took in another rescue female we named Cali. Cali was sweet & affectionate. However, Mira didn't care for Cali. You'd see Mira rush by, SLAP Cali, & run off. We eventually saw them play & sit together, but you still see Mira SLAPPING Carli for no good reason. I brought a young female home, 1-2 yrs. old that I rescued as a snowstorm hit us. This is NOT going well. The 2 girls do not like my little female even though they are close in age. The worst is Mira (of course) with Cali a close 2nd. I've been keeping my cat in my room during he day when I'm a work & she sleeps in my room. I get less sleep as I'm going to bed, she's wide awake. I take my female out in her basket when I'm home & let them look each other out. I have to watch Mira & Cali because they will jump out of nowhere & attack. I love the little female I pulled from the snow, I think we've bonded, I don't want to give her up. If I had to give her up I think it would break her heart. I know it would mine.

Doing some research before I actually adopt a kitten. I have two adults. One I've had for 9 years old since she was 11weeks, and another i've had three years that I got when she was already 1 yrs old. I did the "old way" of introducing them. I repeated the process twice. It was the longest six months of my life LOL. They co-exist. They do not play, they simply stay out of each other's way. The little one is very skittish and I'm guessing had a rough start to her life. She is just a nervous cat, but she's playful and active and sweet. I was hoping to get a kitten that would play with her. However, I'm wondering if this method works in a household of cats that simply "tolerate" each other.
