Marcus Aurelius - How To Be Productive (Stoicism)
In this video we will be talking about 6 important insights for being productive from the writings of Marcus Aurelius. He was also a devout student of the philosophy of Stoicism. During his rule, Aurelius found the time to construct a series of autobiographical writings, now known as the Meditations. In these writings, Marcus Aurelius offered a number of key insights on how to be productive.
So here are 6 important insights for productivity from Marcus Aurelius:
01. Manage your emotions well
02. Do less
03. Strategize
04. Start your day with your most difficult task
05. Respect time
06. Enjoy your progress
I hope you enjoyed watching these 6 important insights for being productive from the writings of Marcus Aurelius and find them helpful in your life.
Even though Marcus Aurelius wrote it 2,000 years ago - his insights on Stoicism still carry strong weight today. Stoicism is a school of Hellenistic philosophy founded by Zeno of Citium in Athens in the early 3rd century BC. Even though it is over 2000 years old, more and more people are discovering how Stoicism is not only relevant to modern times, but can be applied in very simple, yet strong ways.

“Negative” emotions are valid emotions and imply shame for having them. “Uncomfortable” emotions is a good description of anger, sadness, etc.

Negative visualization is something that I was honestly taken aback by. We usually hear that we should focus on the best possible outcome, but a lot of the times, that comes from us avoiding the worst, almost out of fear. I'm not saying that this is necessarily the case, but I definitely see the importance of expecting the worst. It just makes you prepared.

taking action can often be confused with being 'productive'. doing less is a big key indeed, but you need to decide what is worth your time & energy first. do less, enjoy more. great video, thanks!

in the last insight, you say luck is something out of our controll, i think thats partially true, i also think the more action we take and effort we put into something, the more lucky we will get, for example if i would smoke weed all day and play videogames in my room, get nothing done i would never even be able to get lucky, but when i work on my business, something unexpected might happen that would help me in the right direction, so i think luck is not completely under our control but we do influence the ammount of luck we may encounter. great video again, i really enjoy these and they are very helpfull for me so thank you

If being productive, the person must have lots of hobbies. It must cost the person tons of time . If being interested in one subject only,it is extremely successful for the person. The person do not spend time on the others.

One thing that the pandemic should have taught us has been the idea of “toxic productivity”. There is more to life than being productive “all the time”. Traditionally viewed “non-productive” times are just as important if not more than productive times for our overall health and well-being.

People will criticize me about 30 seconds I spend to set & wind my watch once a day. And tell me they don’t have this free time. Then they will spend a long time telling me all the tv shows they watch, all the Netflix, the social media time, sports watching etc. I try pointing how the enormous amount of time wasted, they don’t see it.

Forget the wisdom of long-dead Roman leaders, or similar pundits from the past. Instead, ask a working mother how she gets it all done! No Buddha, Nietzche, Tzu,... can compare for Effectiveness! Course...I've been wrong before :-) So was Aurelius. He should have sent his idiot son to lead a Legion through a Germanic forest. Better, alone...to demand their immediate subjugation to Rome.

The most amazing but also appalling example of this video is about a salesman coldcalls dreaded task. To which it is advised to approach with stoicism philosophy at hand..... They didn't choose a doctor, a teacher, a scientist, a soldier, oh no! A salesperson! An occupation, so in controversy to stoicism philosophy as anything could be. Very disappointing. Hypocrisy at its best
