Bless you for making this video. I cleared the browsing data from a Tesla I am renting through the Uber program, and it messed things up big time. Suddenly, none of the entertainment apps were working or the browser. I couldn't factory reset because I dont have the login information. I had tried powering off the vehicle several times, and it didn't work. FINALLY, the break and scrolling buttons did the trick. I would say it is definitely a hard reset for the tablet. I am so relieved!

You do such a great job on these videos. First, you encourage using the in car owners manual (which even I have only used on a handful of occasions, but it's great knowing how if you are in a pinch). Second, you clearly do so much research to be sure you've thoroughly and accurately covered a subject. Third, you are so enthusiastic and high energy the whole time (shout out to Stew Dog for his video debut). This was a good topic in order to know all the ways you can reset the car (all the way from soft to hard) if you're having problems and before making a service call (where they'll probably just do one of these to correct the issue anyway).
@SaraJAwesome2 жыл бұрын
Thank you sooooooo much for this comment, Bruce! Yes, I try really hard to not tell anybody anything without doing my own research. And even then I’m always forgetting something or don’t know everything. I wasn’t sure if I should leave in the how to find stuff in the user manual, but I’m glad I did. That way people can reference it and do things the right way instead of listening to whatever people tell them. Which is totally fine, and I’m glad we all share information but It’s always better to know that you’re for sure doing the right steps. Also, that user manual can be annoying and time consuming if you don’t know exactly what to look for and how to use it! It took me forever to make sure I didn’t miss anything! I had to cut out a lot of extra time searching for stuff even when I knew where it was! And yes, so cool that I caught the wave in the video and he told me it was him! My first time being recognized in public AND IN A VIDEO?! Epic moment for me!!!! I’m glad you think I’m high energy lol I feel like the chillest most boring KZbinr, all these other people being all loud and freaking out the entire length of the video.. it’s not in my southern nature. Nice summary. One observation, however. You mentioned that when performing a cold boot to wait two minutes before turning the car back on. I have heard others cite five minutes as the recommended time to allow the car to fully power down. When I tested this on my Model 3, at around the four minute mark, I heard a whirring and (possibly) the sound of a contactor opening. Granted, five minutes is a LONG time to sit in a quiet car, but as someone with kids, maybe it will be pleasant for you. 🙂 It is also a good opportunity to wipe down the interior and clean the finger smudges off the touchscreen, which become SO obvious when it is dark.
@SaraJAwesome2 жыл бұрын
Haha yes, for the hard reboot, Tesla recommends waiting 2 minutes. I actually wait 4 minutes though. And yeah, haha! I don’t care, anything to get away from kids, I’ll be like yeah I need to reboot my car it’s gonna take an hour and I can’t open the doors or windows.. sorry! 😂 jk! Also, yeah smudges SUCK! Hopefully my latest video including 72 voice commands for climate alone will help keep fingers off the screen!

Helpful overview, Sara. With v11, the Superchargers disappeared on my navigation map until I rebooted. Also, the right rear mirror would roll halfway down when exiting the car. Weird! One time, when I had to hard reboot the car months ago, it LOST my trip odometer data. Like you, I had one set for "lifetime" stats, but… it was gone. Thankfully, I had recorded the kWh to that point, so I renamed that trip odometer to keep track of additional kWh since then, and now have to add them together to calculate energy efficiency for the total odometer. Tsk.
@SaraJAwesome2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I remember you telling me that, and for that reason I tested every single reboot multiple times to see if anyone would lose trips but I never lost any at all. So that must have been a bug too. Have you done the same reboot again and NOT lost the trip info? Wow that’s crazy all the stuff you dealt with.

Thank you for the excellent videos you put out. You are very clear and easy to understand. I have been only confused by one video. A couple of months ago you put out a video of two mistakes you made regarding your Tesla, avoid sticky situation. You expressed regret that you had installed the front license plate using the sticky mounts. My confusion is why you are concerned? If you removed the plate there might be damage to the paint. In what scenario would you ever considering removing the plate? I live in California and the plate will always stay with the car even if you sell it. Is your state different? I have found you to be so logical in your videos. I am confused why this is even an issue? Thank you and keep up the good work. It is appreciated!
@SaraJAwesome2 жыл бұрын
Well first off, thank you very very much! Second, our plates change if we sell the car. Which I don’t plan on selling, BUT here’s my problem.. I don’t want my plates to show up in my videos for privacy reasons (yes I know people see them in public, but typically those people don’t care who the heck I am) second I would LOVE to do professionally photography shoots with my TESLA.. again then the plate would be in there… on top of all this…. The longer you leave a residue like this 3M on the car and it’s exposed to the elements mainly heat like here in TEXAS.. the more it begins to harden and get dry rot. Then you will most definitely rip the paint off when you remove it if you aren’t extremely careful and find a dissolve solution that is safe for the paint yet effective. So therefore, I’d like to get this off ASAP.. oh AND I plan on wrapping the car myself eventually, so again that plate will need to be removed. Hope this helps;) better to just save people the trouble and get a removable damage feel plate if they plan to do any of the above. Thanks for your support! Have a great weekend! Sorry for any typos!

Had to do this Jan 1st, and found that you really have to wait 2 minutes, and the car will go super quiet right at the end. If you don't wait long enough, the car comes back super fast - if it comes back right away on pressing the brake/opening the door it probably didn't fully shutdown. My '21 M3LR took 10 seconds or so to actually come back up when I did it right. Fixed (temporarily at least) my heat pump issue that day.
@SaraJAwesome2 жыл бұрын

Love your videos. I just watched your video covering battery loss with sentry mode. I live in Ohio where the temps have been way below freezing. I notice battery loss even driving short distances.. My car is parked in an enclosed garage at nite. Do I need to adjust the cabin temperature so it doesn't warm up or leave it at 70 (where it's set while driving)?
@SaraJAwesome2 жыл бұрын
What’s do you mean by adjust cabin temperature so it doesn’t warm up? Do you mean like preheating, or not turning the heating on at all while driving? Things I suggest.. schedule your departure (if you charge at home) that way you can heat up the cabin but still get in with full battery. Put your hubcaps back on, turn backseat fan off, use seat warmer, keep car in chill mode, make sure regen braking is on full regen, use heater sparingly on lowest comfortable temperature. It’s the heat that makes you lose energy from the heater not the fan blowing the air. Hope this helps! Let me know what you mean and I’ll try to help more!

Another outstanding video, lots to learn but you make it easy by doing a little at a time. I live in the Villages in Florida and they have a Tesla community. Last month, with the new software a group got together with models Y and 3 to do the Light show, the Y's were on the end since the doors open. Like you, they were some pretty cool people. Had some guests in last week and went to Disney world. Went on the test track ride (which is GM sponsered) showing all the future features GM will be offering. Guess what, my Tesla already has all of them. I pointed out to them that and the Tech people said , "we have electric vehicles too" Ha Ha. I'm sounding like a snob :(. Lastly, not sure if you've done anything on the GPS but even though my Tesla (Model 3) is less than a year old, it needs to be updated. Not sure if you have done anything on that.

Great video. Let's add 1 more way to do a real hard reset. Start by opening the driver's door and frunk as well as the right rear door. Turn off power by the power button under safety. Then In the frunk pop plastic panel around brake reservoir and Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Then move to the right rear seat area and release the rear seat and pull up gently. Then remove black styrene cover over large banana plug underneath. Pop up plug until you hear a snap. Don't need to unplug completely. Know Don't touch any thing for at least 3 minutes I wait for 5 minutes myself. Then reverse the process and you have the best Tesla reset as it clears a lot of problems the other ways don't.

I don’t have any desire for the Y anymore and I’ve heard a lot of people feel the same way. The lower profile on the 3 makes it more fun and comfortable to drive. I’m jealous of your range!!! Just know that a rack WILL cause drag because it’s not aerodynamic and you will lose some range. Kim Java (you tuber) covered that with a bike rack but I have not. And the kids are gonna grow up and get their own car eventually anyway. They’ll be fine. I’m so happy you love it!!!!!!!! I love the rambling because I do the same with my model 3. It’s love. Oh and that’s great you got the seats clean with no chemicals!!!! I’ll spread the word! I wish I got white:(…. Have a great weekend! Always happy to see you in the comments!

Love this! It doesn’t say anything about dying in the manual 🤣! I have only needed to reboot once - I had a dead screen when I went to the car one morning. I googled it and the only thing that worked was the scroll and brake pedal solution - the scroll buttons alone didn’t work which suggests they aren’t exactly the same. I have a few new alternatives now thanks to your video. One question though - I also have an app to tell me the speed but if I didn’t and the screen went off or was broken, can you accelerate to any speed? I am now contemplating the excuse if I get pulled over for speeding! I also loved the waving comment - I really want to acknowledge my fellow T-dog drivers but haven’t ever done it ….. yet. Then again they are pretty rare here in Scotland - in my town of 60,000 people I think I’ve seen 4 in the last few months. I also love your drive is full of cars! So is mine, a car for the summer, one for the kids and her indoors has a car, however I do feel bad given i took the green choice and bought an electric car! Having 3 petrol cars in addition is making me guilty! I am just glad I don’t have a massive 4x4 and a rally car - I think I spotted an XC90 and an Evo in your drive! Well it looked like the massive wing of an Mitsubishi Evo! Anyway back to that crack in the window…………..😱

Haha! I’ll try to answer everything in this comment but forgive if I forget. Yes, I believe you can accelerate to any speed. And yes, we have the 2021 Volvo XC90, 2021 Subaru WRX STI, 2021 Toyota Supra, and 2021 Mazda 2. Thanks great and very helpful video. Question: Can I have the Tesla app open in TWO different phones at the same time or does that cause issues? My Samsung A6 seems not to be able to run the Tesla app. Is that the phone's issue or what could that be? Have you heard of that? What I learned from other apps is that the Samsung A6 can NOT run 64-bit apps, only 32-bit apps. What do you know or advise? Thanks and keep safe on the road.....By the way in Switzerland where I am, we ALL Tesla drivers wave each others...it's like one large family....!

First off thank you, Alex!!! Second yes you can have the app open on both phones. I tested it today. And it works with Apple or android. So it sounds like it’s just because of the phone itself that it’s not compatible unfortunately. Okay yeah, I just checked with my husband who is a phone genius and he said (without reading your comment) that it’s because that phone is too old and the A6 can’t support it. would you recommend a reboot if a software update is stuck? Mine is stuck at 50% for about 6 hours now and I’m not sure what to do
@SaraJAwesome2 жыл бұрын
Dang. Um. Is the car drivable? If the car is not drivable then go into the screen under safety and power off the car for 4 min and then power back on with the brake pedal. Don’t touch anything at all and don’t open the doors while it is powered off. If your car is still drivable, I would just give it more time. That happened to me once and like the next day it finally finished and got an additional software update. But I am not very familiar with any of this. So you could also just schedule a service appt in the app right now and they can probably check it remotely and give you a call pretty quickly saying what to do.

SaraJ, it would be awesome if you could do a video at night and show how you can adjust your headlight aiming from the driver's seat. My 2021 M3LR headlights make some strange movements going in and out of the aiming mode. Don't worry, just keep track of how many clicks you raise and lower them so you are able to finish where you started. I think the Tesla tech told me the top of the bright line should be 27" (28"?) above the ground when aimed at a wall 25' away. (Don't quote me on those numbers, I'm old and forgetful.)

I’ll give you the links to FTG videos all about the app. I still don’t even know 100 of the stuff in the app. The main thing I love about it is the ability to track exactly how much $ I have spent charging car. That was my main reason for getting it, but there is other great stuff in there as well. Including being able to control your car from your Apple Watch! Which I love and actually needed once. I’ll give u the links in 3 separate replies below 👇🏻 let me know if you have any questions! Oh also, when I got my car the TESLA app had way less features and now the TESLA app is starting to finally have some things that this app has.

That’s what I’m saying, I have no idea 🤷♀️ I wish I knew. 2019 Tesla Model 3 LR. I went to a local concert, and got "parked in"--car a few inches in front of me and car a few inches behind me, but there was enough room for me to go forward and back (turn the wheel appropriately) over and over and get out. So, turned the wheel to the left, eased forward until bumpers just touched, turned wheels to right, eased bask until bumpers just touched. Again and again. After a few rounds, the car would not respond. Zip. Nothing. Two button reboot--no help. Now it was late at night- and we were stuck. Then I did the 2 button while pressing the brake pedal, car shut off and then rebooted to on....and we were able t drive away. Reported the entire thing to Tesla, they looked it up via their logs and said that I had found an obscure bug. They issued a report, but since I was the only one who had experienced it, the bug was not high priority but would **EVENTUALLY** be looked at. That was over 2 years ago--still waiting for the fix to be announced, but now, I am careful about rapidly shifting between forward and reverse. SO-- YES there is a real difference between what happens with the 2 button on the steering wheel reset and the "hold the brake pedal down and then do the 2 button reset. Thanks.

@SaraJAwesome2 жыл бұрын
Not that I know of, but you can do the reboot anyway just to see if it helps. It won’t hurt anything. I rebooted my car like 8 times in the last couple days for the video. But driving the car more and future updates will. Mine was super bad when I first got it, but now it doesn’t do it hardly as much. I also learned areas and things that trigger it and avoid them by disengaging or being ready for them. I keep my foot on the accelerator at all times and when goes braking happens just push on the accelerator and then carefully release it. Sometimes it will just push it though that spot and then continue on like normal, just be careful that this doesn’t disengage the autopilot. If it does it’s fine as long as you’re ready to take over with your hands on the wheel. It will get better over time. Try to pay attention to things that trigger it.

I have a MYLR with Beta 10.9. It phantom brakes more than I'd like. When I stop to get out of the car, I open the driver door, then do a hard shutdown on the screen. Phantom braking will happen again on the next drive so the hard reset doesn't seem to affect phantom braking. It's really annoying but hopefully FSD gets better with each update and eventually it will not happen. 🤞
@SaraJAwesome2 жыл бұрын
My car had phantom braking issues way worse a year ago when I took delivery. And especially in the first 100 miles of driving because the cameras weren’t calibrated yet. But after a year of updates my car drives WAY better on AP than it did 12 months ago. It will constantly get better over time. And you will also learn what kinds of things set it off. If your haven’t watched my autopilot Don’ts video go watch it. And always drive with your foot on the accelerator and when ghost braking happens push on the accelerator a bit to try to make it push through the area and then release the accelerator. Just be aware that if you push too hard on the accelerator it could disengage AP. Don’t worry, it will get better. ;)

It currently happens 2 or 3 times per day while I drive. Separately Sirius suddenly reappeared on my screen. However, most of station tags are now not aligned. This is the only way to manually reboot the FSD computer. It's crazy Tesla doesn't include a full reboot button.

I always wave at a fellow Tesla owner... some are as miserable as heck and won't wave back... :(

Yeah, usually they are. But not always:) squally they’re not paying attention or have too dark of tint. Occasionally they’re just stuck up. 😂

If I would have to wave to other Tesla's I would be driving one-handed all the time
@SaraJAwesome2 жыл бұрын
Oh are there a lot of TESLAS where you live? Is that what you mean?! Also, maybe that’s what Autosteer is for! Hahahahaha so we can safely wave at each other! Jk

@@SaraJAwesome Norway. Model 3 and Y are the most sold cars in Norway. More than 90% of the new cars sold are electrical now. As a fun fact. The Porsche taycan was sold in bigger numbers as all ice cars combined
