6 weeks cellist: my first concerto (A. Trowell - opus 4)

I've been playing the cello for 6 weeks and I'm practicing my very first short piece. My friend Irma played the accompaniment on piano and we had a lot of fun playing this together! This piece is opus 4 by Arnold Trowell.
Watching this back, I see I keep my left arm too low and my right arm too high. Good to see what I need to work on. :-)

Well done! 😀 I'm a former violin player myself and I just started Cello lessons this month. I'm doing exactly the same thing: left arm too low and right arm too high! My teacher keeps reminding me... I guess it's a violinist thing... 😅 Oh, and the first finger tends to be too sharp, too 😅

Thanks! And that's because I already play the violin and there is some similarity to it. 🙂 It is really nice to see the progress and how things "click" quite naturally.

@@MarijkeViolin I agree. There is as what is called "a transference of knowledge and skill." That’s why I was able to segue from the trumpet to flugelhorn in no time at all. But unlike the trumpet, flugelhorn and cornet that play in the treble clef and share the exact same fingering chart, you had to learn a whole new music language with the cello: the bass clef. If I remember correctly, you also took up the viola which required yet another music language: the alto clef. Keep up the good work. 😊 👍 🎻🎺

​@@christophertsiliacos8958 Nice to hear there's a similar thing with windinstruments! And yes, I played viola for a while too. Switching treble and alto clef was confusing, but switching treble and bass clef doesn't confuse me so far. I think that's because the way you hold a violin and a cello is so different, where violin and viola feels very similar in the way you hold it.
