Some update to the status of 21/22 winter situation regarding Suomi Tyres. Suomi tyres have made effort to rectify their production related quality issues. They've announced in facebook that they will replace defective tyres with no additional cost. Here in Finland people have received new tyres from the manyfacturer. Also the quality on this winters production seems better regarding the sideways throw of the tyres. They still are a bit larger than spec tho. Also the tubeless issues seem to be smaller now. I run the Piikkisika 29x2.6" TLR wire bead version in the front tubeless with no issues. In the back I run the DD version of ISP 27,5x2,6" also with tubeless and no issues. This year Suomi tyres also has 27,5x2,6" but it didnt arrive in time for when I was buing these tyres so I've settled for the ISP i the back. Also the DD doesn't mean "doubledown", it means "doubledefence". Anyway, the DD version seems burlier than the Piikkisika so it might survive bigger hits, although in the winter it's not so common to have punctures due to big impacts.

Nice that you have tested the Pikkisikka. I ended up getting these myself based on the suggestion in your previous big test video (where they were not part of the test) that they might be a contender. I really like the Pikkisikka, I run them on ice, snow, rock and bare ground with wet roots and stuff. Great grip and I have not lost a single stud yet after several hard rides. :) Here's a short clip on the type of ride I mean. Hi. I got my Suomi tires in december 2021 (29x2.6) and the tire walls was not very strong. After 3 monts of riding on snow and ice I got my money back. Great tire but not durable tire walls. This year I´m using Ice spiker 29x2.25. Hope they will last longer. :-)

@@TheBorgeT yeah, they are thin and very lightweight in their construction. And does not work as tubeless. The walls leak. I would have got my money back too from this issue, but ended up agreeing to a discount instead (about a year later since I did not try tubeless the first winter). I run them with tubes and sealant inside the tubes. The tube adds some rigidity. Still only lost one stud so far, despite a lot of bare ground riding, which is the main point I keep them. They are durable. I hope your ice spiker will work too. Please report back when you stress tested them a bit. They have older reviews of issue with losing studs but hopefully they've solved that issue. :)

Oh , and regarding your questions. If you ride roads with some loose snow, a wide tyre will be much more stable, much better at keeping the direction without having to suddenly countersteer. A narrower tyre should be faster if you ride a lot of bare roads.

I did a video about battery cover in low temperatures. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHWvXnWGYq2XsLc We always start the trip with a room tempered battery. But the bike doesn't necessarily have to be warm. Taking a warm bike into the snow will cause snow to melt on the bike, then freeze and stick to the bike. If the gears stop working in the cold, there could be moisture in the gear cables. Leaving the bike indoors should dry things up, an WD40 could help. We use composite pedals, to minimize heatloss through the shoe sole. And putting some electrical tape on the brake handles will isolate your fingers.

Vi har noen flerbruks-traséer i området. De er så oppgått at det knapt er mulig å se at vi har syklet der. Ellers sykler vi bare i skiløya når det er hardt nok. Om man synker ned i snøen så bør man ikke sykle, da ødelegger man. Det er alltids noen som blir irritert, selv om man ikke lager mer spor enn en som skøyter på ski. Men det er egentlig sjelden vi møter folk på turene våre i Vestmarka, så det går fint. Det er nok litt verre i mer populære områder i Nordmarka.

Hi. I was gonna answer this, but I had to check with the distributor first, then I forgot. The new 29x2.8 is the same tyre we tested here, which was labled 29x2.6. And we did ride them on a Rail 7 (: The current 29x2.6 tyre is narrower.
