You are correct Scotty. GM does not build a transmission worth a crap anymore. The old Turbo Hydramatic 350 and 400 transmissions were built tough,and when they wore out you could rebuild them with better clutch bands and parts than what came out of the factory and you are good to go. I had a 1978 Buick Electra Park Avenue that had 420,000 miles on the 350/350 engine transmission pairing that was never rebuilt and it still ran great when I sold it for 100 dollars. What the heck has happened? Quality has gone down the shithouse completely.

My friend's BMW X5 power steering warning light comes on and off. The dealer replaced the module for $3,000. It didn't solve the problem. The problem then said it was due to her driving "profile": the car wasn't driven often enough and that causes the battery to dissipate, hence the power steering warning light. Hard to believe. Yes, it seems like a money pit.

@Shelik Hodge 2010, don't get me wrong, I love this car a lot, but just expect to put in $5,000-10,000 in repairs.
@JT-bm8tq3 жыл бұрын
@Shelik Hodge further details. I purchased it in 2017 at $9,200. I only use it for mostly in town use, occasionally making the 3 hours drive to visit family, and it has gone on one 800 mile (roundtrip) road trip. I have put roughly $8,000 alone in regular maintenance. The oil leaks are really rough (as he said in the video), not just a few drops, but there will be a pool of oil on the ground typically, I always joke "hey, I don't need an oil change ever if im constantly leaking and just refilling it constantly". but also what he said about the electronic sensors is the most accurate, these parts break rapidly, and are extremely expensive.

I bought a 2008 X3 6 years ago with 90k miles on it. I did my research on it. 3.0 Inline 6 is pretty bullet proof and it’s not turbo so you don’t have to worry about that going wrong. It has over 150k miles now and all I’ve done to it was coils and valve cover gasket, less than $1000 total repairs. Been a pretty sweet ride. But we are going to get a 4Runner once my tundras paid off, I like knowing that my car will last forever lol.

My advise too if you have a bmw or want one, learn to do the repairs yourself and the cost is a lot more manageable. The stealer ship is where they get your money!

Old land rovers are perfectly fine IF they’ve been properly maintained. Obviously you can’t control whether the previous owner did proper regular maintenance. But if you do find a good one it will last forever, especially the diesels, v8s not so much. Newer ones aren’t too great I’ve heard but never seen or worked on them to know. Same i replace the radiator, the water pump, starter and then regular maintenance. There is no reason to buy new cars/ truck, let someone loose their money on a new vehicle. Its only a tool that you need for a certain job. Myself i need 4wd and space (going a lot camping, hunting, hiking, fishing with kid and dogs) i couldnt care less about the look as long as it function the way i need it to. Always amazed me that anyone would buy a crappy Land Rover, of all vehicles, to convey 'status', when in fact it actually reflects pretty poorly on the owner's judgment.

My friend bought a Dodge Journey when he started a family. I figure he's put probably $5,000 worth of repairs in(he bought it new for $20,000 CDN). That, on top of reg main, gas and insurance he'll probably get a $1000 on the trade in...after spending over $50,000 CDN, all in. I told him to buy a used Honda SUV. Not big enough. He has one child and his wife. Oops.

What do you mean weve had a journey for 5 years with no problems

@@straighttothepoint2717 do you think just because your experience is different, his friends' experience doesn't make sense? What is hard to understand about what he said? Dodge is a brand with terrible reliability. Do you think because you havent had problems that people who have arent real? Get a grip

Completely agree with the BMW X5. 2012 Worst car I ever bought. You didn’t even mention that water leaks into the engine because of the cheap plastic engine parts. Car broke down & wouldn’t start. 3 weeks in the dealership and it broke down again in a day.

He's right about Land Rovers, even in the military they tell you to be careful not to go down too many holes and ditches because the mechanics end up with too much work. What a joke!

You need to buy 2 Land Rovers because one of them will always be in the shop. But they are a sign of status, maybe because people know it is a money pit? Kind of like in medieval times when it was attractive to be fat because it meant you were rich

@@DP-eo5xd the arabs use toyota's in desert locations mainley due to reliability, there is a long standing saying if you go in to the desert with a landrover you will need a toyota to get back out again, i have huge respect for scotty.
