It might seem unlikely, but if you've ever tried hammering or chopping something on a flimsy or soft surface, it makes a huge difference. When I was in Middle School, we tried to break the world record for most beach balls juggled at once. We had at least 400 people slapping beach balls. The local news network was there, we had a swarm of people. We actually did beat the record on that day. However, some dumbass let the secret out that we tried to break the record, and before the most recent version of The Guiness Book of World Records could be released, 600 people at Cedar Point has broken the record. All that effort for nothing.

The funny thing about the guy with the watermelons is that after he stopped him, the host went on repeating and repeating how brave and cool the guy was although he lost the challenge but his producer apparently kept screaming in his ear about liability claims, because went on and on saying "you're 18, we didn't make you do this, you wanted to do this yourself really badly, and you did, you're so awesome! Look at how far you got, even though you didn't get them all, you're still a winner! You wanted to do this, you're 18, it was your choice, your plan, you came so far!" The host was visibly torn over what to do with this. I think he may actually have had nightmares about this for weeks :)
