International Karate was so unique, and its controls were incredibly satisfying. It made your punches and kicks feel “light”, like it should if you follow the fantasy of being a karate champion. It provided an immersional that I have never found and probably never will again. I didn’t know I knew this, but I’m so high right now it’s coming out really easily.

Great list. Played nearly all of those, even Java Jim which was one of the first 'tape loading games' I owned. My favourites have to be Rescue on Fratalus (the alien still freaks me out) and International Karate - fantastic music and the sound effects when you hit the opponant still stand up today! What was the first one with the helicoper around 2.45? - loved that!

No Star Raiders? That was their signature game. Also, Galaxian, Space Invaders, and even E.T. had good ports (you heard me right; E.T. even had sampled speech!)
@scottbreon94484 жыл бұрын
E.T. Wasn't even that bad a game in my opinion. Yeah, it was a bit glitchy, and somewhat "broken" but compared to games like Fire Fly on the 2600 it was a masterpiece. Far from the worst game ever, hell, it wasn't even the worst game on the 2600.

What are the names of the games on 0:36 and 3:52? I am also searching for a game with a diver who was shooting some sharks by contact. I have seen all these on an atari with an external tape player in the early '80s, so I can' t remember the names. I don' t even remember the model of the atari itself. The video is half useful if you have to go and ask everyone for everything.

Hmm, I think Elektraglide wasn't a good game; I really tried, I wanted to like it, but I could never enjoy it. And the original Pitfall was frustrating due the 20 min time limit (but otherwise a fun game). The rest (besides Henry's House, which I didn't have back in the day, so I can't say) are timeless classics. E.g. Pitfall II here is possibly the best version across all platforms, as it had a whole extra adventure in it. One note - I may be wrong - but aren't Preliminary Monty and Montezuma's Revenge one and the same game, just in different stages of development / different publisher (maybe)??? I always thought Montezuma's Revenge was THE game and the prior was just the unfinished product.. Personally I'd add - just from the top of my head - Space Invaders, Joust, Quasimodo, Mercenary, Diamonds, Dan Strikes Back, Miner 2049er, Bounty Bob Strikes Back, Nadral, Shamus, Pole Position, Planetary Defense, Q-Bert, Robotron 2084, Star Trek, Starquake, the Spy vs Spy trilogy.. Yeah, all the additions to the list would require a triple-digit number in the video title. That's how good these games were - and still are. BTW my all-time-favourite STAR RAIDERS must be on such a list. And even the unreleased Aric Wilmunder's Star Raiders II. Atari 800XL forever :-)

What this video doesn't show is almost all of them were rendered in 50 or 60 FPS super stable frame rate. No video really shows how smooth the animation was. That kind of smoothness was unachievable for PC for decades.

i think this shows the problem with the atari 8-bit, because they made such a cock up with the compatablity with the 800 to the xl range and because the ST was such a sucess. their wasnt any real market for it at all post 86, infact my msx which was all but dead in the uk as well post 86 seams to have far more release's 86-90 when some of the best 8 bit games came out. its probably because the zx spectrum was a zilog cpu so converting to the msx was easy but since the atari was mos based they never though it was worth the effort, real shame because my experienced with the atari 8bit suggest they were some off the most advanced hardware out there at the time. a shame they never got to shine

if you can help me at these two please? 1- there was a sliding blocks puzzle in Atari, it had two or three levels of difficulty, first level allows you to pick the block up and put in order to solve it, the last level only allows you to move the blocks without picking them up, do you got anything like this before? 2- there was a game, that you make buildings, its like ''drawing'' but not with colours, its drawing the building with stones and steals you know what I mean? well, im sorry for being rude and disturbing you lol xD but you are my last hope for these games though!
