Summarizing some of the work it took to get my 1960 Chevy 235 Inline Six back together and back on the road.
Thanks to everyone for following along and all the positive feedback.
A very special thanks to Al Va and Hubie, who cake through to help on a Sunday of all days!
Thank you to my co-worker Jeremiah for the technical help with the exhaust manifold, and thanks to boss man Ray for letting me leave my truck in the yard and use the shop to get this thing together.

Nice looking too, I painted my intake the same color . Mine is a 1958 6 in a 1950 truck. Painted the motor grey with a red valve cover. Enjoyed this, working on an oil pressure issue right now. In the 1950 the pan clears easy, but getting at the oil pump is really hard.

@AryDontSurf 7 ай бұрын
Oh man, yeah, that pump is in a funky spot. I promised myself that if I ever had to get that deep into the 6 cyl again , I'd just pull the engine.

Nice job Ary! Git that ol' Stovebolt back together. I'm sorry but the jute twine reference is hilarious. Those old broadcasters like Walter Winchell et al were so over the top.

It's just cool knowing that an old truck like this can have its engine blown apart and put back together in a matter of a few days!

Utilitarian to the max, lol. With some basic tools and the right parts, you can. Always keep her in service. I'm glad someone such as yourself that truly appreciates the potential workhorse/Ag application of the truck is here to see the work! Thanks always, Eric!

That was one of the issues with the 235 is the heads were heavy and cracks were found after rebuild, then chevy designed the 230cid with a lighter head and 140hp but it is mounted on the side not the front.

Yea! The 235 is a funky engine in many ways. I cut my teeth on that thing, though. I've never dealt with the newer 6 cylinders personally. I may have to soon. A buddy of mine has a chevelle with a 230 and may need a hand with a few things.

Also an internally regulated alt will bolt right in place of the original. Order an alt for a 1979 C30. You may need to clock the cases and you can even run dummy wires to the voltage regulator if you wanted it to look original. I have the voltage regulator off mine I'll never use if yours ever craps. The contacts in them get corroded, they may need adjustment, but they usually they don't "go bad"
@AryDontSurf

Thanks so much, Steve! I'll do my best to keep this old stovebolt in service! The video is excellent! The 55 buzzes around perfectly. I appreciate the thought and the mention of my old rig. My thought was, if you can drive it here, you can drive it anywhere. That's a lot of the purpose of my channel. To show people this stuff still works and will never be obsolete.

Lol! Thank you so much! I was so worried that the engine would be beyond repair (without machinist help). I was just happy it was something I could fix. I appreciate the positivity. Also, I appreciate the soap. This truck was filthy, and the snapon crap makes my hands peel. The mechanics soap is beautiful and useful as always, I need to do a short about how great it is, I think. The juniper was really pleasant as well, and im excited to try the magnolia.

My dad had a 1960 Apache 10, short and narrow, with a 235. Bought it in 1961 off a lot for $800. I guess it didn't last long. Sent a rod through the block. He found a used bus engine, a 261, for $100 in the newspaper and swapped the motors. Ran the truck that way for the next 12 years before he bought a new truck. I remember my Dad's truck had 3 on the tree with a pull knob overdrive. Does your truck have the overdrive, Ary?
@AryDontSurf
@AryDontSurf 2 ай бұрын
That seems to be the nature of those 235s. They run and run, even when they're not running well, but when they're ready to go, it's something catastrophic. I always wanted a 261! The only reason I swapped to a V8 when my 6 cylinder blew is I couldn't afford the rebuild for the 235, and I already had a 350 on the stand. No overdrive on this truck, but I've seen some of those overdrive setups for sale. I'm fairly certain it's the same OD that came in the tri fives. They really are great old trucks, though. This one is still getting work done after 64 years.

SHE LIVES!!!!! Yeah, Cloytes quality is long long gone. I've had 2 of those that the center hole was cast off center (and one of them was stamped USA) so I quit using them. Melling is dang good stuff. The infamous number 6 push rods...... yeah.... and setting that 100lbs head under the dugout without spitting the gasket..... yeah.... I've actually seen a lot of those push rods that are bent because that that. It's not easy at all to do all that "in car", but you got it and SHE LIVES!!!!!! Oh... me and Cousin Mike did find 2 of those exhaust manifolds..... but both of them are cracked in the same place as yours. Ug. We tried Brother Ary.

I threw all the spare parts away after I was done assembling, so I should be fine, right? I joke, it's definitely kind of a strange feeling once you've been through everything. Zero says, "You're married to every bolt now," and it rings true, lol. It was bad enough that I'd done the entire brakes, suspension, and clutch now the entire engine? I ought to pay a professional 🤣
