Bushcraft is a skillset. It's not mandatory as a bushcrafter to go naked to the woods and trying to survive. To do that every week is a unrealistic fantasy. The way I see it, bushcraft skills make hiking and camping more efficient, lightweight and interesting... and not to forget FUN!.

Had it been me, I would have made my shelter first and stock piled some firewood. had I thought to take cooked prawns for bait, I would have put in something for myself to eat. Definitely not sat in an open area and got cold until dark then looked for shelter. If I had a fishing line in my survival kit would also take snare wire. As I watched my fire I would also be melting snow to top up my water bottle. Taken meat cubes instead of coffee which is a diuretic, would rather have the salt than having an almost instant full bladder. but that is just me. I envy your time in the wild, the sounds, views and solitude. Thank you for the video.
@Swedwoods6 жыл бұрын
A lot of people think this was survival. But it wasn't. What you talk about of course is the right thing to do in an emergency. But this was just a rough camping trip to try things I was curious about. And I have to do things for the camera of course...Survival is probably pretty boring...since you can survive on just water, staying warm and not move much for about 50 days...LOL

@@Swedwoods I enjoyed your video, just felt sorry for you sitting on the ice! Envied your surroundings! I used to love camping out rough, but cheated and took food sometimes no tent though, so not all luxury for me! Thank you James. Yes that is a detail I see missing a lot of the times when people do the Nying type of fire on KZbin. How was the transition back to eating again, once you returned home? Was the fast beneficial to you in any way? This was a masterful video, as usual. I sit in the woods, in the cold. I relish the discomfort, as it also brings a certain focus. Sharper senses as well. I'm sure this is why I love what you do. Cheers and thank you, my friend.
@Swedwoods6 жыл бұрын
hey my friend long time! Thank you very much! For this amount of time there was not so much difference really going back to eating. Just felt a small amount of fatigue during this. You can see it when I sawed that log...not the same energy as usual. You do things a bit slower but that is not a big deal. Even good for things actually. But one thing that is interesting every time I do something like this...is that you always get this special food or drink in your head that you want. Years ago up in the mountains I had Coca Cola as a mirage craving, tormenting me, telling myself the first thing I would get when coming back, and this time it was grilled chicken. But when you finally get that of which you have been thinking about you get disappointed. I dont know why this is. The coke was a real disappointment that time really. Its like you get better taste for healthy stuff pushing yourselves in the wild. sharpening the senses as you said. Thanks !!

Im not a fan of these "talk to much and show you what we had to eat videos" that are all too common in this genre of film, So it was a delight to watch your experience, Also it showed the reality of survival. If you had to "bug out" for real you might not have food and all the prepared comforts of a planned nite under the stars. Well done thoroughly enjoyable silent bushcraft.
@Swedwoods6 жыл бұрын
Thanks!!
@genehenry41165 жыл бұрын
I agree with the reality check on "bugging out." As skilled as this guy no doubt is, if he or nearly all of us interested in survival/bushcraft leave for the woods without a large cache of food and the know-how to restock, we are most likely going to starve to death. Food availability is highly seasonal (a week of raspberries here, a couple weeks of apples there, etc) with next to nothing for about 6 straight months around here during winter/spring unless you are hunting/fishing. If you preserve/can and cache, and are an excellent tracker/hunter/marksman with a high-powered rifle you might make it until you're taken down by a cavity or skinned knee that goes septic. Otherwise we are dead in the first 2 weeks, no matter how nice the lean-to.
