Hey Captain, I just subbed.... I learned a long time ago that it's best to short stroke larger fish, about 12-18" at a time which doesn't let them have time to turn their head back toward the bottom. An old timer taught me this a long time ago and it's been paying dividends for me ever since. He explained that if their head is up and they flick their tail, they go up...if the head is down, they go down. Anyway, I'm 63 and have no issues getting big fish up with the right tackle. Just a hint from an "Old Timer"! Looking forward to more videos!
@CaptCollier3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for Subbing and watching! And yes I would definitely agree with you but I feel like its easier said than done sometimes, after re-watching this video I for sure should have done that with a few of these fish. Normally we just hook the fish, put the rod in the rod holder and throw the motor in gear until we are far enough away from the structure and then fight the fish, but that doesn't make the greatest good video haha
@mritolduso73553 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct about that method! Get them away from the structure and take your time. I actually prefer this method!

One Long Blast and Two Short Blasts: This boat signal indicated in blind areas or fog that your vessel is a sailing vessel. It should be repeated every two minutes. I suppose a large ship would use it to signal it is restricted in its movement and should be watched for in the fog?

Hey Cap, how large is your fuel tank? What kind mileage you get for that trip? I basically have same setup and looking to do the same kinda distances out of mid Texas coast to get to the tasties on the bottom. My tank is 65Gall useable. I get between 3-3.5mpg, so figure I can do it with the 1/3 rule. Prolly bring and extra 10gall just to ease my conscience. Lol
@CaptCollier2 жыл бұрын
