Due to unforseen issues as the park, I had less than sixty minutes to activate K-3412. Was I successful?

Hey Josh, quick tip: If you press the Multi button and go down to where it says Monitor, you can crank that down to maybe 3-5% and it will substantially reduce YOUR recorded message playing through the speaker, so you don't have to crank the volume knob up and down constantly. It's a game changer for POTA. 73!

Nice video Josh. I also have a 705 and use it for POTA but so far only on CW. I use an external battery to run 10 Watts. I have been using a WRC on a mag mount. It's a quick setup and I can do an activation in an hour. I keep it simple with a paper log. I use the rear hatch of my car as a table and a lawn chair behind it. Having the memory keyer is great for calling CQ and sending the park number on occasion. I spot myself with the POTA app on my phone. My POTA is on hiatus for a while. Been cold here in PA. I can't send with gloves on, hihi. Keep posting these great videos. Phil N3ZP

Thanks for the POTA video! I am a big fan of the 705 for POTA & SOTA. One of my favorite features of that radio is assigning the Mic "A" button to my POTA CQ recording. Very convenient and allows the LCD to be used for more useful data during activation, like the meter screen/waterfall.

Josh, this video gave me the idea of a good POTA challenge. What if we (activators) were to time ourselves. We could measure 1. The time it takes to get our complete station operational and 2. The total time it takes to activate the park. You could start from the time you open your car door for example. I think it could make a really interesting and repeatable format for youtubers and general pota enthusiasts. Folks could try quick and easy setups like this vs a more committed fullsize antenna, etc. Not to mention it just being good exercise for the average ham. Love the content and keep it coming buddy! 73

Great video, Josh. I relate well to this, since sometimes I don't have a lot of time for a POTA. And sometimes I don't have a lot of time to plan--something gets canceled or rescheduled and I get a brief window to go activate. As stressful as those can be, it's always fun and a good learning opportunity for improvement.

Thanks for the video. I leanred two things from tgis video. One is that using an amp reuqires a lot of setup. The other is that there are parks you have to buy timed access to. I was surpised that you didnt decide to go to fully resonant with just the CHA collapsible vertical when you figured out that the amp was out.

@@TinyTJ04the CHA PRV doesn't come with a SS17, it uses a modified version called the SS58, which I assume is only 58" long. The coil is doing a lot of the work. You could probably use the SS17 if you had a good stable support, like the MPAS/TDL ground stake.

It still makes for great content, I learned a lot watching this. Something I'd like to learn is how to do radio with your family, I have some sort of useless shame or IDK, but for me it's either or, and it's mostly or cuz... well you've got 2 kids too so you know. So, great inspiration to do it anyway, let's see what I do with this now haha Cheers from Brisbane Australia!
