This is what they called a "Competition Coupe". The Competition Coupe class originated at the dry lakes of the Mojave desert and morphed over into drag racing. This is a very good example of one from the early 1960's about. Soon, as drag strip chassis' became more sophisticated, Competition Coupes became just dragsters with a coupe body. The same way with the Modified Roadsters. In the mid 1960's the two classes were merged into what was called then "Competition" class.

Nearly all "Comp. Coupes" were actually sliced and diced sedan bodies. I love Competition Coupes but their heyday was when i was a child and they faded out when i just became a teenager.
