One thing that's helped me, similar to your point about returning things to their place, is keeping my keys in my bag. Since I always take my bag when I go out, my keys are now always there too, so I never forget to pick them up on the way out or put them down absentmindedly somewhere when I get home, they go straight back into the 'key pocket' in my bag. And bonus, I don't have a key bowl collecting dust anymore :)

As a maximalist with a lot of books and knickknacks, I absolutely endorse the 60 second reset- I quickly check to make sure that my book spines are neatly aligned and that my knickknacks look intentional in their placement. Reducing visual clutter sometimes just means straightening things, and it makes SUCH a difference!

I am constantly putting things back in their place, taking out trash and recycling, dealing with paper mail, and making my bed every morning and after every nap, that's important too!! I agree a cluttered space makes a cluttered mind...
@kimbrolyy Жыл бұрын
I agree with everything, but it's better for a bed to air out after use and not cover it immediately with the duvet
@kyrakytana Жыл бұрын
I make the bed as soon as I leave it, dishes are only put away in the dishwasher or cleaned immediately after a meal and put back in their designated place. One of the best purchases of the last decade was a three-section laundry basket. As soon as a section is full, I wash that load. I used to put off doing laundry until I had nothing left to wear and this helps immensely.
@katymcdonald5481 Жыл бұрын
I have 2 tips which are 1. Organise your space for how you actually use it and what feels natural and flows for you, the aesthetically pleasing organisation bins in every Pinterest cabinet look great but if it’s not natural to put that thing away in a bin in a cabinet it will get left out because it’s too many steps to keep going through to get something you use often for a lot of people.Also having things front and centre that will remind you to do the things you want to do make your space work for you. 2. Regularly pick a category/spot to go through and declutter, if you find one category builds up faster than others you can plan to declutter it more often. It helps to create a mental inventory of what you have rather than finding you have 5 of something you’ve kept purchasing because you didn’t remember buying it or couldn’t find it when you needed it. Quite often when I’m not motivated to declutter I’ll think “I’ll just look in that drawer to remind myself what’s in there” and that alone can be great to avoid overspending but usually once I have a look in the drawer I find things that are no brainer get rid of items.

Love your vids Christina! I've been implementing some of these over time and am realizing the benefits. I've also noticed that now that I'm learning and adopting more minimalist habits/philosophies, I have so much less interest in shopping/buying! My first response to things is: where is that going to go? or "is that sustainable"? etc. so I'm saving heaps of money and it is true that now I enjoy what I have more, and I'm willing to spend more on fewer, nicer things. After forgetting my phone, keys, etc. one too many times, I've decided to only have 2 purses: a weekday/work and a weekend one. I love being able to change out purses to match outfits, but it has only made life more difficult. So I got myself a really pretty black tote for work, and have one small sporty purse for weekends. It's a huge relief!

I have a couple of different coloured purses in my wardrobe, which I use for different events, when I want to be chic. For work I have a pretty backpack, since I have to carry my laptop and go by train and walk a lot and bring my food and stuff, for the afternoons I just take a tote bag usually or a different backpack. I have a place in the hallway for wallet and keys, so I just put them there when I empty one bag and can grab them later on.

I love the tray idea. Another way I like to get rid of visual clutter is by removing all stickers from purchased items I bring home. For example, I would remove the big “Hefty” sticker on a plastic trash can. It really makes a world of difference to me. I once removed a bunch of stickers (with permission) from my in-laws home on items such as hanging lamps, etc. and it made their house visually less tacky. They didn’t even realize they kept the stickers on such items but agreed that it made it look so much nicer without them.
@anyat686 Жыл бұрын
Yes your right. I even remove stickers from fancy candles and bathroom soap ! 🎉 Actually, ive hardly a signs to read either ! No “ live, laugh, love” 😂
@anniedoke3 ай бұрын
I noticed Christina had her sticker on her trash bin still! I don’t like the look of that visual clutter either. if it doesn’t hurt or cause confusion by removing the label then I remove labels on most items. candles are a big offender too because why must candle companies make the labels so non aesthetically pleasing? I just prefer if it’s in ceramic or a pretty vessel with no label.

Your tips are great. I "try" to reset every night before bed so I come out of my bedroom to a picked up living room and kitchen. It is a nice feeling to start the day. (doesn't always happen) but i know the way it makes me feel -so I try! It especially helps when my 17 month old grandson comes over - I quickly see where I need to keep clean and clutter free! lol Thank you for the inspiration. You make the tips matter of fact instead of judgmental as so many other people offering advice.

I do the 60 second tidy either before bed or early in the morning. I gather the dog toys into a their basket, put away glasses and any dishes and run the dishwasher and or empty it and fold the blankets and fluff the pillows. So maybe it’s a 5 min thing but it keeps our space clutter free and humming nicely. I also used to avoid laundry folding and putting it away but the effortless book tip about just starting it has been employed and I’m so much happier just having it done than procrastinating and having an overflowing laundry situation all the time.

Someone once said that clutter cuts off energy. When you have a clutter free environment, you feel more peaceful and relaxed. Also you can do whatever work you want and need to do. Putting things away is very important that way they are easy to find. I keep my Phone on a Stand and I charge it. I keep my Workbadge in my purse, and when It's friday I put it away in a special box. I keep my Keys and Bus Pass in My Purse as well.

Not true and you're not doing yourself or your children any service with that mindset either. I raised 4 children and taught elementary school full time at the same time. My children learned these habits as well and now have college degrees, successful careers and happy family lives too.
