One life lesson I can share. I worked at a large hospital in Washington state. When I realized a job I had worked at for 14 years was getting me nowhere, I studied for and achieved a certification as a Project Management Professional. I found a job in Arizona and moved in 2004. By 2010 I had doubled my salary. I never thought that would be possible.

One big one for me is to not "wait till things are perfect" to start implementing a goal. Nothing will ever be perfect and, honestly, you may lose your chance to accomplish the goal. Time goes by way too fast. Jump into life and pursue that dream.

This is a really great one. I had heard that about having children too. Not sure that really applies 🙃but waiting as a women past 35 puts you at a higher risk of not only your own health but the ability to maintain a pregnancy and to have a child without genetic defects. Harsh, but true. I had one at 35 and at 41, but definitely advise doing it before then as my doctor kept reminding me each year as I inched towards that magic number 35.😂 No regrets but I had a very tough time physically but have two sons I love very much.

One sage advice to women especially is to be certain you establish the ability to support yourself on your own prior to getting married. Not to think negatively about how 50% of marriages end in divorce, but just because you NEVER KNOW what might happen. I know most women work but I mean find work or get educated enough that you could definitely support yourself just in case. I ended up a single mother and never dreamed it could happen or I wouldn’t have had children but there I was suddenly single with a 3yr old and 8 yr old. I was so grateful I had my degree so I at least had an income above minimum wage.

This one is so very important. I’ve seen many young women lately, poo poo this and proclaim they want to be a real woman(stay at home with no education past high school) and marry a REAL man(head of household breadwinner). This leaves them vulnerable if said spouse dies or is violent or a cheater. I learned this the hard way. I believe men and women should be capable of looking after themselves and their children, if ever on their own.

The most recent life lesson I have learned is "not everything is about you". There's a fine balance between assessing how a situation affects you and taking action. As I've gotten older, I realized I don't have to get involved in every conversation or even have an opinion. I can pick and choose my battles, and sometimes it's best to just let it go.

My life lesson is to surround yourself with positive people and experiences. Negative people will drag you down and you CAN'T fix them, they have to fix themselves. Worked as a nurse for 12 years now. For the first time in my life something clicked on my head, I don't want it anymore. I'm fed up with management, gossiping and strict rules that only apply to certain staff. The high cost of living makes me scared to jump to another job outside of healthcare industry. I've listened far too long to people who guilt trip me into thinking I should stick to my degree and long experience. I'm not happy anymore, It's time to go.

I worked as an RN fro 30 years and really hated the last few years. When they tried to force me to get the Jab, i quit. I was forced to sell my house, because I couldn't afford to stay in a high cost state. Instead, I packed my van, my animals and drove to the East Coast with no job or housing. 4 months later, i bought a house for cash, and now am living my best life. I let my RN license expire and now only have to work part time for a big box store. I am only making a small portion of what I used to get as an RN, but I am much happier.

Dad told me, "Don't write/publish anything you're not willing to sign your name to." At the time (early 1980s), he was referring to sending anonymous letters to the editor of the local newspaper. Instead he offered a wonderful compromise which allows me to work part time and move towards my new project which YOU have motivated me so much to do. I am behind on getting several critical steps done because I avoid the most difficult decisions or projects because I am frozen in overwhelm. Like purchasing a vehicle. I am seriously considering leasing like you do because they cost so much now. I am driving a vehicle on its very last legs. I just want you to know I appreciate your content and confidence. You appear extremely self disciplined. I am about a lot of things but clearly lacking in other areas. You encouraged me to try once again to take care of my own lawn. My job was trying to ignore my sister telling me I was too stupid to ever get a job. LOL! First job was at a school library, second job was at a regional library, third job was at the state library where I was first introduced to computers and word processing. Fourth job was at a law firm, I didn't even look for that job it just landed in my lap because of my word processing experience (very much in demand when computers first came out), and I didn't think I'd do well in that job, but I worked there for a little short of 15 years where I received bonuses, pay raises, and advancements from word processing to in-house trainer. Oh, by the way, my sister didn't qualify for social security because she lacked enough credits, so her stupid sister did all right. Never let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do!

Great video Jen! I’m still trying to learn how to be more mindful and present, but I am making efforts to embrace and accept life, thorns and all. ❤

Your videos are always a great advice. Thank you. I would say take a chance and yes take a risk. You might fail several times before you succeed, but you keep going and the rewards will be there. Stay motivated and focus on your goals.

Wonderful video chat, as usual, Jen. I learn so much every time I watch your channel. I really like the way you look at things, people and life, even yourself. 😊 Every one of you chats makes me think and look at situations from different angles. Your words have sort of baby-stepped me into a state of mind where I am a little more confident and less fearful of life and change. This has been more of a challenge for me as I've gotten into my older years. I've always been very hard on myself. But, I have learned to show myself the same compassion, empathy and grace I so easily extend to other people. This has helped me to step forward when overwhelmed and frozen in fear of the "what ifs". Again, great chat. Thank you, bless you and have a wonderful week! 😁🙋 --Paula in Ohio USA

Owing up to your mistakes is so important. I've been so hurt by people who acted badly towards me and felt no need to apologize. Lyn Slater in her recent book "How to Be Old" illustrated this beautifully by describing a mistake she made, her apology, and how that experience lead her to a important collaboration. I'm glad you pointed this out so beautifully. Thank you!

Enjoy your passions and little pleasures, but don't waste time on addictive self-soothers. I've never been into video games, but the subject of computer solitaire came up. I hadn't played it in probably 30 years, so I put a copy on my IPad. Somewhat to my disgust, I became addicted to it, and wound up compulsively playing games and wasting far too much time. So, I completely deleted it off of my device - and haven't missed it.

I have learned to "never say never". The idea that we'd never do that or go there or be like that or act that way etc. It might seem true at the time but things change.
