There's nothing "economy" about them; trust me, I have a 390whp one, haha. They ain't no Honda Civic with a turbo kit. And they're extremely competitive in auto-x, road courses, and racing events, even from the factory, keeping up with cars that are supposed to be much "faster." Mazdaspeed isn't a design gimmick name; it's a philosophy, and Mazdaspeed engineers are serious about racing.

This platform still isn't dead. In fact there has been a big increase of speed3's in my area(Raleigh, nc) I'm currently building to a goal of 450 for a daily with hopes of building a track engine.

@@Fitforeveryone001 Cobb accessport Cst4/5 or BNR S4/5 Built bottom end Damomd port injection adapter and 4 injectors as well as fuel lines and fittings(graveyard performance sells these pre-fitted for the speed platform, you just install) Split second controller WOT box Upgraded fuel pumps(both in tank and hpfp) 3 port boost controller 3.5 intake Any after market downpipe Ethanol blend(usually E35 or 50/50 blend, ask your tuner) Most importantly....TUNE TUNE TUNE. Don't run the OTS tune Cobb come with. Just get an e-tune. You'll need to have the tune revised everytime you change flow into, within, or out of the engine. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few small things so, it's important that you study these cars. They aren't civics and people who treat them like they are don't have speeds for long.

That would be the limit for stock block/fuel. Built motor and more fuel to get to these levels and above. Don't forget that all important tuning!

I'm on stock block and I'm at a very reliable 390whp. The main thing is to get beyond 370-380whp, you need auxiliary fueling, whether a piggy-back PI system, or to spray a crapton of M1 methanol. The stock head bolts/head gasket can easily handle 500whp, too. In terms of when to build, torque levels, especially lower in the powerband, really determine when you need to go forged internals. North of 400wtq, especially early in the powerband, really makes that necessary.
