Thanks for the follow up. This confirms what I meant by "the output circuitry probably already handles it". However, an extra diode does still offer extra critical protection against capacitor explosion in the case where the output diode fails. The failure would likely initially be a short, but the short could subsequently fail open due to current flow and then the capacitor(s) on that supply would surely explode! Love your channel - keep up the great work 👍🙏👍

special thanks for your feedback yes, diode can be added but it will create an extra passive load and will dissipate power. the capacitor will always have the -ve 0.4 volt in case of the power supply failure even if we use polarity protection diode, the lower side power supply will continue to feed to that failed power supply. so there will no benefit in both condition it is safe. if are using an extra diode or not

@@HaseebElectronics I think there has been misunderstanding and I should have been more clear - my mistake! The diodes I have been suggesting are across the output of each power supply (reverse biased). They should not be conducting in normal operation. Definitely not series diodes (which wouldn't do anything except waste power, as you point out!) Thanks again sir!

@@GannDolph well said my friend, in my experience with tinkering with psus, i have never seen a diode blow open circuit, but if that's the case, it could be potentially dangerous. Will be using diodes on the output of my series power supply now! Thanks for the advice!!

If its a properly designed psu the output cap are usually rated about twice the output voltage plus if the diode fails I dont think you will get a higher voltage

Great video thank you. Only thing about connecting power supplies are making sure the series components are rated for the total voltage. Lets say you connect (4) 12v for 48V, make sure the components are rated for 48v and not 25v.

Hi I have a question How many amps would be for 2 x 12v 62a power supplies in series ? Would it be 24v 62a ?
@HaseebElectronics7 ай бұрын
If connected in series Voltage will be added 12+12= 24 volt If both power supplies have same current rating then 62 || 62 = 62 ampere 24 volt 62 Amp

doesnt the psu sense the output voltage? if it does then it should self adjust its output, but if you're that worried then just get a psu rated for the current output that you requires, do a search for solar panels connected in parallel

Really excellent information.....thank you. One thing does strike me, though, that maybe we should check that the main output to ground capacitor across (inside) each power supply is rated for the NEW higher voltage of the combined supplies, rather than their regular individual voltages...? Is this correct or not? Thank you, sir.
@HaseebElectronics2 жыл бұрын
best regards and special thanks for your valuable comment each power supply's capacitor is responsible for its own supply's voltage. so combined voltage will not appear across any capacitor within a single power supply

So something I thought I would ask so I am clear on it. Isn't the case of your 3 power supply in your setup only able to supply the max Current of the lowest output power supply? So Because you used 2, 25amp power supply and then the 3rd is only 6amp isn't the max current at any Voltage now at the output only 6amp now?
@HaseebElectronics2 жыл бұрын
Welcome dear yes, when we will connect 3 different power supplies in series, the voltage will add but total current will be limited at the lowest value of the power supply as i clearly explained in video number 598. i will suggest to check that video as well, please

Thank you sir, i have a question i have 2 power supplies with different output voltage and current, the first one is 24v 4amps and the other one is 12v 3amps. I connected them in series to achieve 32v 3 amps but when i connect the voltage drops to 8.8v. Does that mean the power supplies need to have same output voltage and amps rating?
@HaseebElectronics2 жыл бұрын
there is something wrong in your connections if you connect properly +ve of first power supply to -ve of the second power supply take common output from fist power supply and +ve output from the second power supply's +ve terminal. then the voltage must add to each other and the total current will equal to the 3 ampere. because after 3 ampere the 12v power supply will shutdown
@diyprojects57672 жыл бұрын
Thank, will check out later

the capacitors are used to smoothen the output of the respective power supply. actually the giving an offset to the power supplies causes to add the voltage
