spectacular, many would only show the beautiful part of the feat, but you humbly not only showed the problem with the milling cutter but even gave fate to many to change the character, congratulations. yes, i will be waiting for artcam

Hi Roger, given Brass, if you are? how are you going to mount this and then how are you going to protect it from time discolouration? can you cover this in Epoxy or equivalent? Kind regards Gavin

Very nice video Thank you for taking the time to share your disaster and recovery of the workpiece. WoW Brass is super expensive in Australia.

Look into an oil mist. I think it would really help with cutting that material. Great work!

I have to admit that I do not know much about machining and especially CNC machining but I'm looking into it. I'm looking into starting with probably a smaller table top version unless I can find a good used larger more professional type at a reasonable price. I'm really only interested in doing it as a hobby, at least at first, then who knows. What I'm interested in trying to mill at first is a vape mod called a "Billet Box." It's about the size of a pack of cigarettes and contains a single 18650 rechargeable battery, a vape tank and the electronic chip and controls which set the voltage etc etc. Most of these Billet Box's (brand name) are machined from a single billet of aluminum but a few limited number have been machined from a single piece of naval brass and according to the owner of the company the ones made of brass are a pain to machine. Anyway, the newest Billet Box made of brass, which only 2 were made, also has abalone and I believe mother of pearl inlay into an antique style script on each side. Also, the magnetically attached front and back cover is made out of carbon fiber with what appears to be an inlaid rabbit or "bunny" made with a brass outline and inlaid with abalone, mother of pearl and some other material, hence the name of this mod as "Das Terror Bunny" Billet Box. It is a beautiful piece of machining and inlay work and I'm trying to learn what kind of equipment I would need to machine one. The inlay work is probably a different story, I'd like to learn how they did that too. If you'd like to see this piece I can email the website and/or pictures or just Google "Das Terror Bunny Billet Box." It is quite a statement piece, beautifully made and one of a kind.

I tried to machine brass for clock dials with poor results. Not only broken mills (despite high speeds and low surface feed rates) but brass dust in the spindle bearings. The latter problem required rebuilding of the bearings (Mechatron spindle). If I try this again, I’ll set up positive pressure in the spindle, but that will require some study, to better understand the necessary relays. Chatting on the CNC forums hasn’t been helpful, because almost nobody (who replies) is working with brass. Is there anyone out there with whom I can correspond?

Als je werkt met messing plaatmateriaal heb je langspanende verspaningen. Indien mogelijk rond staf MS58 gebruiken deze zijn kortspanig. Eddy

Hi Roger, Have you had a go with this on your CNC mill. Also would aluminium work or would it be a bit soft. Cheers Dave.
@dominic66342 жыл бұрын
Aluminum would be easier to do
@SpoonerSPON2 жыл бұрын
Aluminium alloys 6061 or 6082 mill well. Pure aluminium or alloys like 1050 are too soft to mill nicely.
@dominic66342 жыл бұрын
@@SpoonerSPON no you should still be good. Its all about chip evacuation and coolant.
