Earlier, had uploaded a two parts animation based videos on Sundaramoorti Nayanar on this channel, links to which are:
1. Sundara Moorti Part 1 : • Sundara Murthy Nayanar...
2 Sundara Moorti Part 2 : • Sundara Murthy Nayanar...
The Periya Puranam in Tamil and Siva-bhakta Vilasam in Sanskrit are great devotional and spiritual classics which attract many aspirants, right from the 12th century Basavanna of Karnataka and saints like Ramalinga vallalar and Bhagavan Ramana Maharishi in recent times. Even today, Countless spiritual seekers are inspired by these scriptures.
In the past 1000 years, apart from numerous prose works on the lives of the 63 Saints based on the Periya Puranam, many poets have also composed melodious poems.
Of these, Kesava Mudaliar’s simple composition covering the core incidents of the 63 Saints’ lives, is being presented in these videos. An English gist of the poems is also added to convey the meaning of the poems. The Tamil verses from Kesava Mudaliar's original print (published in 1865) is also reproduced as it is in the videos.
All songs have been rendered in their original musical notes (Raagam & Taalam, except in a very few cases where required), with great devotion and dedication by Ms.Mylai Divya Sundar of Chennai.
Finally and most importantly, these video are the dedicated hard work of a co-bhakta of Bhagavan Ramana, who compiled all the ingredients of the videos and of Ms. Mylai Divya Sundar for her devoted renditions. I have only put the skin, so to speak, over the real flesh and bones! Hope viewers will derive immense devotional benefit from this Series.
Audio: . Sundarmoorti Nayanar_from Tiru Thondar Puranam rendered by Ms. Mylai Divya Sundar.

to Divya who marvellously holds her own with no accompaniments, lilting BGMs, autotunings & the like, to the "fragrant honey-laden" Arunachala "spring flower" who has "dedicated her life to the worship of Lord Siva and his revered devotees - the 63 Nayanmars" to the "Ramanashrama vāsi" the "Sutradari" of this series and to Ram Mohan Sir who wholeheartedly translates, thematically collates the manifold clippings and presents, "Thank You!" is not the word - some yet uncoined word may define it; no, perhaps that too cannot (paraphrasing Papa Ramdas's words) 🙏🙏🙏

Sundarar!!! ஓ! ஓ! ஓ! ஐயா! உன்னையல்லால் இனி யாரை நினைக்கேனே?? 👏👏👏 an amusing devotee indeed! though, named by the Lord as a "violent devotee": "மற்று நீ வன்மை பேசி வன்றொண்டன் என்னும் நாமம் பெற்றனை"(தடுத்தாட்கொண்ட புராணம் 216) to redeem this devotee, what all the Lord had to do!! first claim him as His slave by producing a "ஓலை" (ōlai : a declaration purportedly signed by his ancestors), and then declare him as His friend "தோழமை யாக வுனக்கு நம்மைத் தந்தனம்" ; (த.ஆ.கொ.பு 273) coerce him to abandon his wedding plans on the eve of marriage but make him adorn that very abandoned wedding costume all through his life on earth! "நாமுன்பு தொண்டு கொண்ட வேள்வியி லன்றுநீ கொண்ட கோல மென்றும் புனைந்து"; having stopped his marriage only to play a marriage broker soon after, to fructify his devotee's two love episodes, and help him marry twice! and look - how cleverly & mischievously, Sundarar words his request when he wanted to marry a second time :"மங்கை யொருபால் மகிழந்ததுவும் அன்றி மணிநீண் முடியின்கண் கங்கை தன்னைக் கரந்தருளும் காதலுடையீர் […] சங்கிலியை தந்தென் வருத்தம் தீரும்" (You, who besides enjoying one woman by your side, secretly love another keeping her concealed in your hair... give me Sangili (name of Sundarar's second love) and relieve me from my pangs of love) as a peace maker walk to and fro the streets of Thiruvarūr, first in the attire of an old Brahmin and then again at Sundarar's bidding in the attire of Lord Siva with His retinue, to broker peace with and pacify his first wife; not only provide mountains of paddy to feed his wife's household but also send His attendants to carry and deliver them in his wife's village "ஆளிலை எம்பெருமான் அவை அட்டித் தரப்பணியே"; (VII/20/1) supply water and food compassionately in the guise of an old brahmin when due to the long journey, hunger and thirst His devotee fatigued in Kurukāvūr... which made Sundarar burst out an heart-warming pathigam "இத்தனை யாம்ஆற்றை அறிந்திலேன் எம்பெருமான்..." VII/29/1 (My Lord, I have not experienced/ do not know the reason for this much of comfort/solace) give gold and riches on Sundarar's demands by obliging to his enterprising novel demands :- "அருளும் இக்கனகம் எல்லாம் அடியனேற்கு ஆரூர் உள்ளோர் மருளுற வியப்ப அங்கே வரப் பெற வேண்டும்" ref. ஏயர்கோன்கலிக்காம நாயனார் புராணம் 108 (all this gift of gold that You have bestowed to me [here in Thirumudhukundram/Vriddachalam] has to be arranged to be delivered to me at Thiruvārūr to the amazement of everyone there) and lo, Lord agrees: "முத்தூற்றில் இட்டிப் பொருளினை முழுதும் ஆரூர்க் குளத்தில் போய்க் கொள்" ref. ஏயர்கோன்கலிக்காம நாயனார் புராணம் 108 (drop it in the river Mutharu here and take it from the tank in Thiruvarūr)

If Lord does not accede to Sundarar's demands how he chides him!! "ஆடி யசைந்தடி யாரும் நீரும் அகந்தொறும் பாடிப் படைத்த பொருளெ லாமுமை யாளுக்கோ?" VII/43/5 (are all the riches that You and Your devotees gained by singing and dancing only meant for Your wife?) "கங்கை யாளேல் வாய் திறவாள் கணபதியேல் வயிறுதாரி அங்கை வேலோன் குமரன் பிள்ளை தேவியார் கோற்றட்டி யாளார் உங்களுக்காட் செய்ய மாட்டோம்" ref. VII/5/2 (Ganga whom you hold on Your head does not open her mouth; [your elder son] Ganapati is a pot-bellied glutton; [your younger son] Kumaran with a spear in his hand is just a playful child; your wife Devi favours not; Why then serve you all?? we shall not) "மதியுடையவர் செய்கை செய்யீர் அற்ற போழ்தும் அலந்த போழ்தும் ஆவற் காலத் தடிகேள் உம்மை ஒற்றி வைத்திங் குண்ணலாமோ" ref. VII/5/3 (you do nothing that intelligent ones do; in times of despair and distress, can your devotees mortgage you and feed themselves?) "மலையரையன் பொற்பாவை சிறுவனையுந் தேறேன் எண்ணிலிஉண் பெருவயிறன் கணபதிஒன் றறியான்" ref. VII/46/9 (I neither trust the daughter of the mountains(your wife) nor your younger son; your big bellied son Ganapati does not know anything other than to eat endlessly) 🤭 When that does not work, he banters:- மீளா அடிமை உமக்கே ஆளாய்ப் பிறரை வேண்டாதே மூளாத் தீப்போல் உள்ளே கனன்று முகத்தால் மிகவாடி ஆளாய் இருக்கும் அடியார் தங்கள் அல்லல் சொன்னக்கால் வாளாங் கிருப்பீர் திருவா ரூரீர் வாழ்ந்து போதீரே! (VII/95/1) (Oh Lord of Thiruvarur! when those devotees who slave for You, who seek none else than you, who are distressed and burn within like the fire that is smouldering, who look forlorn, come to You and cry out their woes to You, You remain so very indifferent/apathetic. [if this is your nature, be it so] May You alone prosper!) ...reminds one of Sri திருமங்கையாழ்வார் Pasuram "நும்மைத் தொழுதோம்" where he says "இந்தளூரீர்! வாழ்ந்தே போம் நீரே!" the 2nd verse of this pathigam is intriguing for his confidence, shall we say, bordering audacity... விற்றுக் கொள்வீர் *ஒற்றி யல்லேன்* விரும்பி ஆட்பட்டேன் *குற்றம் ஒன்றுஞ் செய்த தில்லை* கொத்தை யாக்கினீர் எற்றுக் கடிகேள் என்கண் கொண்டீர் நீரே பழிப்பட்டீர் மற்றைக் கண்தான் தாரா தொழிந்தால் வாழ்ந்து போதீரே (VII/95/2) He says "ஒற்றியல்லேன்" ('i am not a thing pawned with a mortgage bond'- this, after the Lord had showed him documentary evidence earlier in Thiruvennainallūr not once but twice - first cleverly a photocopy😀which Sundarar threw in the fire and later its original - to prove his slavery to Him) and also declares "குற்றம் ஒன்றும் செய்ததில்லை" ('i have not committed any fault' - this, after making a false promise to his second would-be wife). look at the comical phrasing in the next verse: "குன்றில் முட்டிக் குழியில் வீழ்ந்தால்"... going further, our Sundarar also tries some theatrics asking '[…] இதுவோ திருவாரூர்?' (is this Thiruvārūr?), implying as You have taken away my sight, it is not clear to me👌 how sweetly elsewhere in this song he says, "மாயங் காட்டிப் பிறவி காட்டி மறவா மனங்காட்டிக் காயங் காட்டிக் கண்ணீர் கொண்டால் வாழ்ந்து போதீரே" (deceiving me showing Your maya, thereby showing (giving) me a birth, showing (bestowing) me a mind that does not forget You, showing (supplying) me with a body and then if You rob my sight/if You gather up my tears, [be it so]; May You prosper!)

everything is easy-breezy for Sundarar with not just the Lord but also His family, so it seems ... as in the case of Thirumuruganpoondi, when Sundarar was fast asleep at night (after asking Pillayar to take care of his riches gifted by his friend Chēramān King), on the command of the Lord His būthaganās in the guise of hunters rob all of Sundarar's treasures, and then... oh surprise! surprise! Sundarar promptly sets off a hullabaloo and belts out a pathigam asking the Lord "எத்துக் கிங்கிருந் தீர்எம்பி ரானீரே?" (for what reason at all, are You here?); uh-oh, Pillayar on the receiving end, calls Sundarar and shows him the place where his stolen treasures are or in ThiruNātiyathānkudi temple (the birthplace of Kōtpuli Nayanar shown in another video in this channel ), not finding the Lord, he goes to His son Pillaiyār to find out His whereabouts - effortless as if one asks a neighbour's child "hey sonny, where's daddy?" 🫠 there can be no parallel for sure before or after Sundarar of such camaraderie with Lord! for such cascading grace showered on him, no wonder, a glorious padhigam wells up ...." மற்றுப் பற்றெனக்கின்றி நின் திருப்பாதமே பாவித்தேன் […]நற்றவா உனை நான் மறக்கினும் சொல்லும் நா நமச்சிவாயவே" VII/48 (with no other support/grip/attachment, I contemplated/held on to Your Feet alone[…] even if I forget You, my tongue will incessantly chant "NamaSivaya") and, this soul stirring one.. "பொன்னார் மேனியனே" VII/24, where each verse ends with the heart melting phrase "உன்னையல்லால் இனி யாரை நினைக்கேனே?" (other than You, hereafter whom else will I think of?) Sundarar - truly an entertaining enjoyable engaging devotee! ஐயனை என் மனத்தினால் நினைந்த போது அவர் நமக்கு இனியவாறே!! (VII/30) 🙏🙏🙏

the following conversation between Swami Brahmananda (Maharaj) and his disciple Swami Prabhavananda, is from "The Eternal companion - Spiritual teachings of Swami Brahmananda", RK Mutt, Madras publication […] At this Maharaj said: "Do you think I do anything according to my own will? The devotees insist upon fixing some date for my going, so to avoid constant pestering I fix a tentative date. But I do not move or do anything until I know the will of the Lord." "Do you mean to say," I asked, "that you are always guided by the will of God?" Maharaj: "Yes." Myself: "Well, Maharaj, I too may think or feel that I am doing the will of God, when actually I am only following my own inclinations and attributing them to God's will. Isn't that what you do?" Maharaj: "No, my child, it is not the same." Myself: "Then do you mean to say that you actually see God and talk to him directly and know his will?" Maharaj: "Yes, I wait until I know his will directly and he tells me what I should do." Myself: "For everything you do?" Maharaj: "Yes, for everything I do, I have the direct guidance of God." Myself: "And do you accept only those disciples he wants you to accept?" Maharaj: "Yes." After this talk with him I began to find some meaning in his peculiar way of acting. For example, whenever any of us would ask his advice, he would say: "Wait. My brain is not working today," or: "My stomach is upset, I'll answer tomorrow." Sometimes many tomorrows would pass before the disciple got any definite answer. But when Maharaj did finally speak, there was always a special power behind his words. "How does he know the will of God? Does he go into samadhi every time before he knows it?" This was the thought that continually crossed my mind. But, not daring to ask him, I waited, hoping somehow to get an answer. Then, one day, I was discussing with another disciple the spiritual visions of "Gopal's Mother," a woman disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. She had been given this name because she used to see Gopal, the boy Krishna, playing with her, walking beside her, and calling her "Mother." I expressed my opinion that these visions of "Gopal's Mother" belonged to the transcendental plane, and that I did not believe she had actually seen Sri Krishna with her physical eyes. Maharaj, who was sitting his room, overheard me. He came out and said rather sarcastically: "Ah! So you are omniscient!" "But Maharaj," I asked, "how can one see God in the external world with physical eyes?" Maharaj simply made this statement in English: "Show me the line of demarcation where matter ends and spirit begins." In other words, I understood him to say that when the eye of the spirit opens, one sees Brahman everywhere.
