Excellent Podcast and funny as usual My novella incoming... Honestly think it'll be a Portal 2 tbh. They've already mentioned in that Bloomberg piece that Sony could decide not to bring it to market. I could see maybe they put small internal memory for it enough to store 1 or 2 games. I have an agreement with Em with his first 2. I don't think there will be a 3rd option. I think the internet infrastructure is so far ahead in Japan, China, and rest of Asia , that if that is the main target, Cloud could really be fantastic. So again, I think Portal 2 gets mild upgrades to the receiver that lets you play some curated arcade PS5/PS4 games, PS2, PSP, and PS1 games natively. Just least investment compared to creating native handheld yet has tremendous juice I think option 2 being a $400 price makes sense. I think that's why they want to nail Cloud Streaming now. Path of least resistance that's essentially future proof. Pretty much the Portal now can exist and be as powerful as how much Plus Premium is upgraded/Cloud is refined. And honestly I think this is likely the final intent for it to be a Remote Playing PS Plus Machine. I also think PS blog mentioned about intending on allowing you to play purchased content over the Cloud, which I also think will likely be curated to 1st party, exclusive, and select 3rd party games. I think that maybe why Sony is looking into Flat2VR to boost VR adoption with the path of least resistance. So a lot of their 1st party games officially could be upgraded to have VR components. I think GTA 6 could get a VR component which likely would shift VR units again. Especially if they put more first party experiences and doing a similar discount as Black Friday this year. As for the importance of the console for each company, the Playstation generates too much revenue for Sony to its Research and development costs vs lower revenue for Microsoft to its Research and development. And Playstation is actually the glue for some of their transmedia endeavors such as Playstation Productions. So the shows, movies, anime, music, are all spawned from Playstation IP. In addition to the store front of the home which many don't think about

Nintendo DS & 3DS are two different generations. DS launched in 2004 & 3DS launched in 2011. 3DS is a successor to the DS. Doesn't count in the same generation.

A PlayStation portable would likely be ps5 native, ps6 steaming. Sony gonna be doing cross gen games for at least half the gen. Indie and 3rd party for longer. Will likely cost same as the console at the time

Again, everybody is missing the point of Lego Horizon Adventures. I believe the main point of that game for Sony was not the actual game, it’s a push into the toy market with actual Lego Horizon sets. That’s where they’re going to make most of the money and that’s why it’s on the Nintendo Switch, because it’s targeted at children, who will then also want the toys. Let’s see where the sales numbers are after Christmas, which is when most parents will buy the game for their children, along with actual Lego sets as well. Sony will literally make a percentage on every Lego toy set sold which could make them significantly more than the game, just like Disney do with the Star Wars Lego toys. Plus, they will make that percentage without having to do any of the heavy lifting, because Lego will produce all of the toys. It’s a win-win for both companies.

And with the game selling below every Playstation game launched on pc so far, and sony not making any announcements about it. It's definitely not a break out success. Which is what it needs to be to recoup lego royalty and make lego merchandise of it successful! We will see how it goes!

@ The problem is people are making assumptions solely based off of PC players which is not the target audience for a Lego game, because most children play their games on consoles. Why do you think Lego would have insisted on releasing it on the Nintendo Switch, because that’s likely the platform where the vast majority of Lego game sell. At the end of the day, we do not have any console sales numbers yet, and trying to evaluate numbers from Steam makes no sense, because the games target audience is not on PC. It’s also ridiculous to evaluate a game like that now so close to Christmas, we will only really know the true success of the game after the holiday period, when the majority of parents who were going to buy the game will have done so for a Christmas present.

This is also likely why it’s on the Nintendo Switch, because that’s where the majority of Lego games sell on that platform because that’s where the majority of children play.. Plus we only have the Steam numbers to go off so far, we have no idea how it sold on console, plus the game will likely sell the most in December for Christmas. People are making a lot of assumptions here without thinking it through critically.

@@-Old-School-Gamer Yea, a lot of people run REAL QUICK to Steam charts as if that’s the “end-all, be-all” of how a game is doing without BOTHERING to take two seconds to think about how certain games DON’T really do well outside of a certain ecosystem or platform. Like RTS and 4X games like Civilization don’t really do AMAZING on consoles, but do gangbusters on PC. Same with a lot of platformer-type games on PC which typically “have their roots” in console gaming like Sonic and Mario.

Personally I think the native PlayStation portable will actually be an interpretation of a PC handheld with the inherent advantage being optimisation. I say this cause of the portal it plenty of other devices can remote play but the portal id the optimal way to do it and its high sales numbers demonstrate this. Is there was a PlayStation PC portable with its strength being that the ps exclusives that do end up on PC are best optimised in this new device over any other portable PC device. Heck it only really needs to be more powerful than a steam deck but not as powerful as an ally x to be viable and it can still remote play , maybe not as good as portal but damn near close.

I know this is gonna sound controversial, but as far as a new handheld PS device is concerned, the resolution doesn’t really MATTER to me that much if it’s only going to have a 6-9 inch screen (like I know a lot of people go, “lol 720p/900p” about Switch and Steam Deck, but if you ACTUALLY use handheld devices and don’t have like wicked sharp mutant vision, I don’t think you’re really gonna NOTICE the difference between a 1080p screen and a 720p because of the PPI density on a screen THAT SMALL).

My point is NOT SPECIFICALLY TO ASK FOR THIS, but let’s just say it would be for the purpose of keeping the handheld’s performance and technical parity CLOSER to what you’d get from an ACTUAL PS5. I could be OKAY with a 720p or 1080p screen in THAT SCENARIO. Not IDEAL, but I’D GET IT (and as someone who does play on handhelds as well as consoles, I’m usually willing to give the former a little bit more “leeway” since you’re sacrificing technical capability for portability and convenience).

Ps5 pro is out and the media almost unanimously says that it is not a necessary upgrade. Most of the boosted games barely show an upgrade. @@TheCoolgame24 this year was an L! They took way too long to release those games. Stalker 2 is positioned wrong, it's not a popular enough game for holiday. And omg, that game is crazy hard. That's like a summer title. Flight sim 24 launched a total mess. Excellent game, I'm playing it right now, but first impressions matter. I totally understand that Avowed devs need time, but September and October should not have been as bare bones as it was. They certainly have the games, they have an excellent lineup. But they need to get quality out the gate. And their Cadence up to mark. When they do, xbox is set! They cannot afford 2025 to be like this one!
