Seems everybody has their interpretation of this song, haha. Me? I personally think it's about a shy girl suffering from depression who develops a crush on a boy but she cannot tell him her true feelings and she feels she is unworthy of someone like him (or anybody, for that matter.) So she watches him from afar but one day he notices her and sees how sad she looks and how she's always silent and alone. They briefly make eye contact but she quickly looks away and runs off. Enchanted by the mysterious, quiet, girl the boy goes after her. She wants to get better, to escape from her "sea of depression" but she is also afraid of getting better, too.* So she runs away and sinks deeper into her sea of depression, pushing him and others away because she is afraid of letting others in. At one point she hits rock bottom, and, having nothing else to lose and deciding to give hope a try, extends her hand as she reveals all of her feelings. Whether or not she reveals her feelings to the boy or he eavesdrops on her I do not know. Either way, the boy finds out and returns her affection. He takes her by the arm and "lifts" her out of her sea of depression, telling her "See? You were hiding brilliant colors, too!" Finally, the girl sees her own self-worth and inner beauty, and is lifted out of her ocean of sorrow. Of course, depression isn't cured overnight, and this is only the beginning of her journey towards recovery. Still, for now she feels hopeful and happy and with the boy by her side it seems she will overcome her mental illness. Sorry for the long explanation, I hope people still read this, haha. If you've gotten this far thank you, and I hope you have a wonderful day! (*Side rant: This is not uncommon with depression and indeed many mental illnesses. In fact, one of the bigger barriers to getting well for those with depression or other mental illness IS overcoming the fear of getting better, of letting go of your depression/whatever. I can personally attest to this, as someone who suffers from minor depression/anxiety/OCD/social anxiety. It might seem strange to an outsider, someone who has never had nor known anyone with mental illness, but it makes a lot of sense if you think about it. The problem is she, and those with mental illness, have been suffering from depression (or what-have-you) for so long that it's become her new normal. To let that go, to try being happy, is scary. It's that age-old fear of the unknown, and the question as to whether or not she deserves happiness.)

I know that I’m late but here in the video you can see her stepping up towards the sky. As said, being lifted from the ocean of depression. The reason for those steps is as said “depression isn’t cured overnight” and she takes silent, slow but happy steps up to a normal life.

I personally interpreted this song as carrying themes of potential, value, and beauty within against self-pity. It didn't have to be depression, any clinical diagnosis, nor any severe problem.
