I've actually been in the process of making a video covering many of these same topics and more. Sometimes I forget that this is such a relevant topic other people are rightly looking into it too. One of the things I'm personally concerned about is not only the creation of media that can fake the now. But also media that can fake the past. In a world where we are constantly trying to dig up things from the past to try to contextualize it, what will happen if somebody create something fake but so unbelievably convincing that we are put in a awkward situation or it even gets passed as real. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

What is the exact meaning of someone's identity? Is it merely someone's appearance? Their SSN? Their gender? Etc. Is someone's "identity" permanent or everchanging? What if someone is a public figure and they fall under the umbrella of public domain? Things are very muddy, not so clear and there are no easy answers legally or ethically to combat something as ephemeral as "Identity" Just something to ponder.

I'm sure there are positive or creative ways it can be used, but it is disingenuous and false by nature. costumes don't have to be used to conceal identity; they can be to dress up for fun or to perform... but costumes obscure who you are. That is their purpose. The manipulation of reality is not neutral, even if it doesn't necessarily have to be used malevolently. Because they inevitably will be. It’s frightening to think what might be possible. We are all vulnerable to being blackmailed, accused of committing a crime, cheating on partners etc with this technology. Government departments, corporations, retail stores already use voice recognition software to capture & authenticate our voice. Our smart devices listen to us & watch our eye movement to see how we respond to certain content. So many people are obsessed with uploading photos & videos of themselves. If they record the final deep fake product into a video format you would need to use pixelation detection that is a high definition system that runs in the back ground on these devices that detects invisible imperfections that go unseen by humans and alerts the user to the presence of a deceptive use of this technology. There are many ways to detect " deep fake" technology its just that the fear of its existence us limiting the detection software from being created. There can also be laws made, similar to laws limiting subliminal technologies, that can be used to force creators and users of this technology to inform the viewers that the technology is being used. The law may be quite strict and high dollar fines imposed if the viewer is not informed of its use, or simply outlaw the use of this technology all together unless in video game formats and persons personal appearances have been approved by the holder of that personal appearance.
