Sark may be located in the middle of the English Channel, but it's stuck firmly in the Middle Ages. It's a place where there are no cars, no income tax, no pollution - very little of anything, in fact, except peace and quiet. And that's why it attracts thousands of tourists every year - people who just want to get away from the 20th Century for a week or two. Richard Carleton samples life on this island of 500 people, where the good old days have reigned since 1565. He discovers a feudal system of government, and some charmingly archaic laws. Like the traffic regulations in the main street - it's one way: one way for horses, one way for tractors. Then, there are the Sunday laws - on Sark, you can't even ride a horse on that day - unless of course, you're going to church. Carleton seeks explanations for these rules and regulations - unfortunately, only a native could understand
