I bought a 60s Gretsch Round Badge kit and wanted to see what THE studio drum kit of all time was capable of. The results were terribly pleasing...

Great playing man! I really like when you see one kit and different styles/feels...proves that mindset, tuning and groove is the most important thing...studio-knowhow to of course...but in the end...musicianship is the foundation not gear.

Thanks man 🙏🏼 Yeah I really wanted to get stuck in and see which directions we could take the kit in, turns out there’s a reason so many studios have one of these in the cupboard!

Hi and well done mate ! Just to be sure, is the snare drum you use on the second example 1:11 the original "Gretsch Round Badge" from the 60's or another one ? Thank's for your help
@timreyland342
@timreyland342 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. It’s only the kick and toms which are 60’s round badges. That snare is actually a chrome over steel Gretsch Brooklyn from about 3 years ago and it is insanely good. Any preconceptions I had about steel were disproved with this drum!
@jonreichsound
@jonreichsound 3 жыл бұрын
@@timreyland342 Thanks for your quick reply ! It does sound insanely good :D Is that a 14x6.5 ? (Sorry I said 2nd example, but I was talking about the 3rd "Nate Smith" example but I guess it's the same snare drum you're using there)
@timreyland342
@timreyland342 3 жыл бұрын
@@jonreichsound yep, that’s the one. 14 x 6.5 chrome over steel. I got given one to play on a gig from a backline hire company in Slovakia and I ordered myself one for the time I was back in the U.K.!

Hey, love the hi-hat sound with the Brooklyn snare, especially on the 80's drum machine. What are all the cymbals you are using in this vid? Just found and brought home a Gretsch 1960s burgundy sparkle round badge 3 piece and I love it!

Thanks dude! 🙏🏻 The hi hats were zildjian 14” quick beats in brilliant finish, I reckon from the 90s. The crash is a 17” A Zildjian which I believe is 70s. Congrats on the kit! Those 60s round badges are studio dreams 😍

Evans EQ2 on the bass drum and either coated emperors or clear pinstripes on the toms depending on the sound. Remo controlled sound on all snares

What were the muffling techniques?
@timreyland342
@timreyland342 3 жыл бұрын
So on the Phat one the snare was tuned super low then we threw a snare weight and a couple of moon gels on. Moon gels on the toms. On the 80s one we went for a Big Fat Snare Drum on the snare and a couple of moon gels on the toms. From memory everything else was either untouched or a small piece of moon gel
