I applaud anyone who takes on a conversion such as yours. My 61 is a 4-door sedan flat top and would be a nightmare to convert without buying doors from a 2-door and possibly quarter panels. If I had a hardtop like yours, I wouldn't even consider changing it. Though I like the open window look, I've owned my 61 for 46 years and 252,000 miles without regret. Very nice work and thanks for sharing it. Another modification I've seen on a 61 was to put the front clip of a 62. For those who know 60's Chevy's, it's a head turner.

I thought about doing this to my 63 4door Impala...But instead of all that welding and body work , I thought about buying 2 doors off a damaged 2door, then work around that on my 4door

I watched some conversions over the years and it always seems easier to get a 2dr install that and then just start cutting ? no rather than making 1 door from 2 ?

Yeah for sure. I just did it this way because I had 2 sets of 4dr front doors so I didn’t have to buy anything to build them. And I liked the challenge of seeing if I could do it. Thanks for watching!

I know the work involved to this type of conversion in my own opinion the only thing you are gonna get out of it is the experience after this type of conversion you can prety much will be able to do any sheet metal panel replacement on any classic car .

The metal on those old cars was thick enough to work with and not like the paper thin metal they use now? When the cars of today get that old nobody is going to do these conversions on them.

No special reason; I had two sets of front doors and was thinking about how you could section them together to make a longer door so I decided to give it a shot. More for the challenge of seeing if I could do it more than anything. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I Don't like 4 to two door conversions. What's so wrong with 4doors. They are lighter and when two door cars are made in the factory they make the frames stiffer witch is why they are heavier.

Each to his own. I didn’t build it because I just had to have a two door; I did it because I wanted to see if I had the skills to successfully do it. It’s a good feeling to start and complete a challenging project.
