As far as I'm concerned Maris should still have the record cause these 2 goons: Mcgwire and Bonds didn't break any record with their use of steroids. Bonds was always a POS but Mcgwire has really disappointed the fans.

A lady came in where I worked to buy something and she gave me her credit card. Last name was Maris. I knew that the name was special…not many people with that last name. Had to be related to Roger. She was related by marriage, but that was good enough for me that day.

Phil Rizzuto's call on radio was much better than Red Barber's subdued TV version.

Rizzuto was great! Always put so much feeling in the calls he made, and I am glad he called one of the most famous home runs of all time!!!

Even though he was at the end of his career when he played in St. Louis in 1967 and 1968, Roger Maris was appreciated there more than he ever was anywhere else. I can understand why Susan would have found memories of those years. It sounds like it was actually a pleasure for his family to go to Busch Stadium.

Terri henricks I'm gonna be honest, I would guess Roger enjoyed his BASEBALL time in New York far more. 61 homers, 2 MVPs, multiple Championships etc. By the time he got to St. Louis his career was essentially over. He was a shell of what he was in KC and especially NY. I'm sure he loved being around his family, but I can't imagine he enjoyed the way he played in those years

Terri henricks also, the way it is depicted in movies about how NY fans treated Roger is so far overblown it isn't even funny. It fills a narrative they aim to push. The Yankees retired his number for God's sake, I don't think his number is retired in St. Louis

I had a Roger Maris bobblehead when I was a kid. And unlike today, only a few special ballplayers had their own bobbleheads.

I an currently reading Roger's bio ..In '61 I was 12 and Rog was my hero ..My dad called me ' Rog' up until the day he passed ..in late '61 I scaled the right field fence following Roger catching the final out ..I jogged all the way to the dugout next to my hero ..I hope he knows now, how. much he meant to me ..thanks, Roger

Good memories, Tom. We were living in Boston, and my mother would take me to Fenway (I was 13) when the Yanks were in town, always arriving early to watch the Yanks' batting practice. The whole lineup knew how to "hurt" a baseball!

A true model for sports athletes and to this day the season Home Run champ in AL at 61 and as far as im concerned all MLB Bonds Sosa and McGuire couldn’t tie the shies Maris wore

I think if you were to ask Roger what his greatest accomplishment was, he would probably say his family. Still remember '98 when McGuire hit 70 (though tainted), the character and class they showed as his record fell.

His record did not fall, McGuire cheated
@garyfaught3769
@garyfaught3769 2 жыл бұрын
@@tennisbum3686 No argument. He did cheat. However at the time the Maris family didn't KNOW he was cheating and still showed great character. It seemed like as the record was being challenged, Roger FINALLY began to receive the adulation he never got back in '61for overtaking Ruth. it was a shame he didn't live to see it.
