i joined the 618 fanclub a few weeks ago and watching all videos from the start of this channel. im pleased to see you are consistently using nets now. as everyone else, i love the spillway videos. one idea: do a drone shot flying from the top of the spillway close to the waters surface and fly downstream a mile or so.

If you'd really like to catch some monsters; spend some money on a trip to the Netherlands and bring your big game rods. Our rivers and canals are infested with Wels catfish, some have grown over 2.5 mtr (8ft). Those are truely monsters...

I love targeting bowfin. The most effective bait I've found is a freshly dead minnow or two, uncut, under a bobber. Usually I just buy minnows for perch fishing and will use floaters for bowfin. Totally underrated, hard-fighting, easy-to-catch big fish. Love the channel Nick!

We use the same technique with the frayed rope but we hang a treble hook on it as well as about 12 to 18 inches of stainless leader.

Yes man more spillways... That last bowfin was 5.5 pound but appeared much bigger than the second bowfin you caught which was over 6pound..

Yup I like the spillway shows cuz we really don't have em here in Canada, the build up of bowfin and gars is incredible...great fishin, cool Creeks, we get big ol' carp, some bowfin but I've only seen one in life never caught one, incredible show bro, even when you fish little guys it's interesting and enjoyable,👍🎣🇨🇦🍻

Those Bowfin will hit topwater baits too. Try trowing a popper, spook or frog...probably pick up some bass and the gar will hit them as well. Make it a little more challenging now that you've got the spot on lock.

love watchin u fish those spillways. We don't have 2many that have fish. I live in Canberra Australia. we have heaps of lakes in our state and surrounding areas of New south wales. Goodluck with catching as many and often in the places u fish. unfortunately, if u catch one or more u r a winner. The fish here r probably smarter than the ones u catch

Hey you should use a bait under a float on your larger pole with the heavier line. If im not mistaken the big mystery fish had taken a bait on a float maby it was a flathead cat fish they have a tendancy to stay in one place wen they eat your bait.

U need to use a steel leader when you fish for gar Nick .. if not that's what happens , they break your line . Try a steel leader next time you might have better luck landing those big gar ..

You have fantastic respect for all your catches - no matter the species. I love that! I grew up fishing with old guys who'd throw the "rough fish" up on the bank to rot. Bowfin are stocked here in some Minnesota lakes to curb the bullhead population.

When you make a rope lure you should rub it between your hands and mat it up like dreadlocks, also use a lighter to melt some of the rope together.

Tip for 618 don't pull the line so much to the left or right it rips it out there mouth gar have very soft Jaws skin and ik because I fish for gar my main species
