Great video. At 2.13 the old St.Kilda sea baths, long gone. It was a lot safer and family friendly at St.Kilda beach on a warm Summer evening than it is now.

Amazing stuff Gezza. Even glimpses of the St Moritz ice skating rink at St Kilda at 1:14 with The Venue next door. Two iconic Melbourne venues. Legend has it that Lindsey Fox met his wife at St Moritz, he subsequently bought the place.' He was such a romantic type that he , allegedly, hired an arsonist from Sydney to torch the place so he could make more cash from any subsequent sale, history/heritage overlays and all that. I saw some fantastic gigs at The Venue, Screamin' Jay Hawkins among the more memorable of them, he blew Nick Cave out of the water. Then it was a stroll down to the Espy , or if it was late, the Lindentree I wish you happy all the time, not just for christmas , Gezza. Thanks Cobber.

Great clip and the music really suited the imagery. The women of that era dressed so well and were very classy. For anyone wondering the tune is an instrumental version of a song called "Run to Him" by Bobby Vee.

Melbourne 1962, Models strut the latest wool fashions, using locations around Melbourne as their backdrop. Some of these localities include the banks of the Yarra, Captain Cook's Cottage, St Kilda Pier, King's Domain, the Botanical and Exhibition Gardens, and the Myer Music Bowl. Fashion adviser: Sybil Jackson and photographed by George Heath. Footage courtesy of the ACMI Collection, Bobby Vee instrumental added.

I used to own a tank Fairlane like the one parked there on the Esplanade opposite the old St.Moritz ice skating arena back in the early 70’s as a young 18 year old and remember it handled and had mammoth amounts of body roll around corners, a bit like driving the Queen Mary! And that petrol guzzling 332 ci V8 with a power robbing 2 speed auto, memories!

~~Season's Greetings~~ The hats were stupendous! It was very illuminating to see the fashions of that era, before the mini-skirts and hot-pants were ushered in, followed by the midi & maxi skirts. Lovely choice of musical accompaniment. Thanks for sharing ... cheers Gezza!

Great to see the St Moritz... in a previous life it was the Wattle Path Palais du Danse... also the home of Indoor Track and Field in Melbourne in the early 30's

You're half right. It was St. Patricks, it was the tallest Melbourne structure till they built the ICI building i think it was called in about 1964/5. Merry Christmas. 😍

@@cudgee7144 Yeah Nah. St Pauls on the corner of Flinders and Swanston streets. Opposite the station. I am sure it is St Pauls despite not having been there for many years. You are right about ICI building and the curved building on St Kilda Road followed and was BP House back then. Anyhow....

Melbourne in 1962 what a beautiful time to live there I cant believe what a dump it has turned into in 2024 thats progress for you

Yep, a really beautiful time. My parents were in their early twenties and I was a bub. Life was chilled, jobs abundant and housing affordable across all classes. However, within little more than a dozen years, our politicians sold out our country, and it's unique and solid vernacular culture, and quality of life to mass immigration. Gough Whitlam signed off on the Lima agreement in 1975 to effectively do away with our proud and high quality manufacturing base. Both major parties also shut down most of the trade schools by the late 1970's and then imported tradies rather than train our own. Thereupon, globalisation, along with the outsourced Cheap as Chips China Syndrome, was the straw that broke the camel's back. Nevertheless, it still remains the ardent undeconstructed socialist-leftists gauzy wet dream that fuels their residual moral vanity and crusade for diverse cuisine.😢
