Built a mini rack for guitar recently: strymon AA1, ph drive, pico vcf, 2hp been and delay, Bastille dynamo. Plus power it comes in at 22hp and is a great little box :) less to carry than a couple pedals and satisfies the normal drive/verb/delay/wah that I want on guitar! Thanks for the vid, always love your concepts and presenters!

Sounds like a zoom multi-FX and only costs $3000

Ahh one of the new Tip Top dsp units. Both seem amazing. Great demonstration. Lovely topic to advocate for.

There are a lot of cool companies making cool pedals with exp/cv inputs. Just my opinion but when I play synths/modular I really love to turn knobs and if I'm playing guitar there are no hands left. I think that a better option would be to send CV modulation to pedals. But for this purpose a maths with a module to adjust the voltage for pedals would be sufficient.

Recommend some pedals with CV?

Dope on a rope! Imagine what you could do with 9 strings and 63 HP???

would be interested in a modular effects system demo situated in the context of a jam between multiple musicians. What does this stuff which purports to offer intuitive and hands-on extension of creative possibilities actually afford musicians who want to be responsive to ongoing shit happening in the room? Too many videos demonstrating delay, reverb, looping. That’s all about resonance. What about harmony? Counterpoint? (meant in the least formalized sense). Y’all have enough gear and people to make something more interesting happen lol.

Love Perfect Circuit. Appreciate the effort putting this video together. Still feel like my Helix can outperform this setup (even if my playing can’t LOL)

Classy // ritual electronics modules are really cool // I have to install the Krach module for some percussions things pairing with drum2…on this palette.

Generally, more pedals should have some CV and digital connectivity, we should be able to synchronize and control all our gear

Any reverb pedal -> Boss Pitch Shifter (PS-3 perferably) - > any phaser. Boom, you have this.

You could replicate those effects, but modular is very powerful for changing values to parameters. The LFOs work like someone rhythmically spinning knobs on your pedals: plus, much wilder sounds than this are available in Eurorack. Most people have that stuff because they do synthesizers, but you can definitely get some unique sounds on guitar, drums, vocals, or other sounds routed through. Wouldn't recommend unadventurous guitarists to get involved. It's expensive and complex. Not trying to be judgemental: I sincerely just mean if doing weird stuff to your sound and to achieve that sound isn't you, you wouldn't like this much

@A B Maybe if you’re a guitarist you may not understand the role LFOs and other modulation sources play in synths - they can modify your sound automatically, or based on other parameters / modules, or by the sound itself. With a pedal you might be able to modulate one or maybe two things, but with a bunch of LFOs you can modify as many parameters as you want, limited only by the number of modulation modules you want to put in your case.

@@symbiat0 yep spot on, it's all about the modulation. I do stuff like random step phasers driven by sample and hold, I've never seen a pedal that can do that. Infinite possibilities.

@@TroyBlackfordbut there wasn’t anything in this setup that really used the modular capabilities in a interesting way.

I’ve been a guitar player for 20 yrs and a eurorack hobbyist for a year… I just don’t feel like they work together, despite how badly synth companies want that guitar player market.

Do you know Neil Youngs Dead Man Album ? Or Caspar Brötzmann ? I think it must be possible to make cool Guitar Noisescapes mangling the signal with Eurorack Stuff like Filters/Distortion Modules like the 100 Grit, Granular - in a way that can't be done with normal effects.

Really? Maybe it depends what kind of music you do. I don't think it's much use for regular effects, but that's the point. If you want to create strange experimental stuff it's perfect! I use software instead (VCV) but the principles are the same. There are quite a few ideas on my channel for modular guitar effects and it would be good to get more opinions, even if people think it's complete crap!

Also costs 3x as much, has no footswitches, and has to be fiddled with constantly to be patched

A modular can do tons of things you can never do with pedals, especially when it comes to modulation and routing flexibility/feedback. This system is just designed rather poorly. Designing such a tiny system is very hard. They don't seem to have a clear idea what they're trying to do beyond replacing a few pedals either, so it ends up being mediocre.

I was curious about that strange looking guitar…
@TroyBlackford2 жыл бұрын
It's one of those fanned fret guitars with the unique intonation: the angles apparently keep it in a truer tune than regular guitars. I am very curious what playing one is like!

More powerful than a pedal board? I’d say a wah pedal is stronger….you can manipulate it with your foot while playing 😆

I play guitar and synths. I can't see spending the extra money for effects without presets.
