I'm a first generation Canadian, my mother was from Northern Ireland as were my grandparents. You need to look to the future Ireland. I have many Irish friends here in Canada, we don't care about religion, it does not matter nor does the past in the history of Ireland. I was lucky to have been brought up not to look at religion as something that separates people. This is why our world is in such terrible shape. Religion is the evil that drives that. I'm proud of my heritage and where my ancestors come from. Enjoy what you have, great music, great beer and great people.

An Ireland of equals is what we need , and it can happen. If the citizens of E/W Germany can unite against all the odds , so can we. The working class people of the north are similar on both sides and should unite. We have more similarities than differences. And in your response to this , please don't say that the protestant community would be discriminated against in an all Ireland ( like the founding fathers of unionism claimed ) as it is apparent that the protestants that did happen to be south of the border during partition did not and still to this day have not faced discrimination by the southern Irish government or by its people. I am 18 and my views are shared with many of this new generation , shaped by the results of the GFA. I hope to see this new and equal Ireland in my lifetime and as there is no unionist majority in Stormont anymore , maybe it'll come sooner rather than later. The British government has transferred a lot of civil service jobs to Northern Ireland to buoy up the local economy and NI takes a lot more money from the British government than it pays in. NI is a net liability. The cost can be borne by a large country like the UK since NI has only a small population relative to the rest of the UK. If Eire was to take on the responsibility instead Eire would be bankrupted almost immediately. These are the economic facts and is why rhetoric about "oppression", (which is an insult to people in the world that really are oppressed) makes you look the fool that you are.

As suggested I watched the bandfest at the Calgary Stampede, trombonists who don't use the slides, trumpeters who don't use the valves, limiting repertoire. Neither the flute bands in the UK or the marching bands in N. America are full orchestras and play within their capabilities limited by versitility of the instruments. On the whole the flute bands do better using all of what they have whereas the college bands don't use all their potential provided by their range of instruments.

the video is a band parade the local band (in this case getrude star) holds an annual competition in the area where they come from, visiting bands compete and are judged on several categories similar to any other musical competition, and awarded trophies. In return, gertude star will attend the other visiting bands to compete in their local parade. A much, yet widely believed train of thought, mainly due to the republican media propaganda machine is that all parades are there to intimidate Catholics however its merely an expression of the protestant culture and a cracking night out free music and entertainment and a few jars after, beats standing in a packed sweaty nightclub trying to order a drink.

@TheEire55, the reason why there's a hype over this band is because they are a great bunch of lads, and it's a big band that are quality. They all play the drums in sync and they all play the flute without mistake however you compare them to a Republican band, 1. Republican bands look scruffy; these are clean, 2. This band has top of the range instruments and equipment in comparison Republican bands have sports direct black reebok t-shirts 5-£10 and their drums and flutes are as cheap as shit whereas the SPB have top of the range stuff and all tuned to perfection, 3. Republican bands can't play properly and they sound like their all drunk trying to play an instrument, 4. The SPB have a organised band and smartly lined up at all times, whereas the Republican bands are just complete filth and are all over the place, 5. Republican bands play anti-British and very badly constructed irish songs whereas the SPB play hymns, Loyalist songs and war songs where around 15% of songs played are Loyalist Paramilitary songs compared to the Republicans play proably around 90% IRA influenced songs, 6. These Republican bands walk around Glorifying the IRA and how they killed innocent British and Protestant and walk around with active and past IRA members who have committed crimes such as killings whereas the SPB have not and do not!
