After watching the first four segments I had to take a break for drink and restroom usage. Let’s Roll on! You may fix toys, but these toys bring joy to so many. I find joy in your videos Sir.

Lyle - there’s nothing to apologize for. Bringing a failing old amp back to life is very satisfying.

Like everybody has already said, Thank You Very Much for the videos that you provide sharing your experience and knowledge. I don't think that anyone else has gone into the details that you do. I gives me the ambition to go back into some of my failed projects and start checking for DC all over the board and wiring. Thanks again.

When you “pat yourself on the back” it shows you still care about and enjoy what you do. I don’t understand why people are annoyed by that.

My friend, I've been an electronics engineering technician for over 40 years now. I've gone through my fair share of soldering irons. Mostly in the digital world. Not amps. I say: take your time. Explain things. I enjoy it. It helps me understand the issues that live in your world. Keep up the good work.

It's okay to pat yourself on the back for a job well done. I just rebuilt a Pioneer SX-850 and feel pretty good about it. This is me patting myself on the back.

Does anybody know the difference, the actual practical difference, between aa763 and ab763? My 65 twin is ab, and I’m curious what that means but can’t find much info anywhere.
@PsionicAudio Жыл бұрын
Almost all that left the factory were AB. AAs had slightly different filtering and some different values in the phase inverter.
@CraigFlowersMusic Жыл бұрын
@@PsionicAudio That’s the exact extent of information I find everywhere. A non- answer nobody will divulge further than “filters” and “values.” What does it MEAN?!

Can you demonstrate how you do the “alcohol bath”? Also, you’ve used a heat gun after the alcohol evaporated? The heater wires on V2 makes a huge crackle when touching them in higher volumes. Those probably have insulation problem?
@PsionicAudio3 жыл бұрын
See the previous two videos. You mean the heater wires on your amp crackle? Because these don't. That would be a solder joint or a microphonic tube.
@Matan22222223 жыл бұрын
@@PsionicAudio I’ve replaced many tubes in v2 still the same problem. Could it be moisture in the wires? When I tap on wires 2 and 7 I really here crackling noise through the speaker. Could be dc leakage?
@PsionicAudio3 жыл бұрын
I think I see the problem here. Pins 2 and 7 on V2 aren't the heaters. They are the grids. And they can be microphonic when tapped but no problem with playing. Don't do any work inside amps until you know everything you are seeing inside. High voltage circuits are not the place to learn. Learn with fuzzes and tube screamers. Then maybe a Champ. Nothing more complex until you have those completely in your head.
@Matan22222223 жыл бұрын
@@PsionicAudio thanks! So the grids can make a crackling sound through the speakers when touched? Is it normal?
@PsionicAudio3 жыл бұрын
Completely. Only a problem if you have crackle or weird sounds when playing.

Great sounds even with what your recording with,, are you using a strat in position 4 for the sound demo here?
@PsionicAudio3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I don't remember what pickup setting, but probably neck+middle for the stuff without reverb. And it sounds a lot better than the lav mic can show. But the real recordings will wait for the return of the speakers.

@@PsionicAudio If you still have the Ric would love to hear it, so happy I just got a real 68 Princeton Reverb, its amazingly loud and seams nearly as full sound as a twin using a G12h heritage

Hey, Lyle, since you're going to have this amp for a while do you want a couple of .02uf Cera-Mite caps? I have some spares that'll match. They're hard to find these days.
@PsionicAudio3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, but I'm pleased with the sound with these Vishays. I did ask the owner if he wanted me to track down exact replacements and he didn't care about that - only the sound.

@@PsionicAudio you are blessed with a reasonable customer! It’s good to know that there’s new production options for ceramic caps. The offer stands. I have ~100 NOS Aerovox 250pf and 500pf domino mica caps too! Those come in handy for the odd Tweed amp.

When did a great, informative video on an amp repair earn criticism from whomever? What ever you say is your privilege, it’s your channel. Hell, I think you are a musician who has learned how to repair tube amps, not the reverse. Musicians are arrogant, I am, I try not to let it show in public, but when you have spent your life learning to play an instrument, you feel like you have accomplished a great thing and it makes you arrogant. It takes balls to do it! Balls =arrogance! For those who don’t play, learn to play an instrument and you will find your arrogance! Love from NW Colorado. Thanxz

Well, thanks. It's just that I've seen many KZbin channels start out cool and informative and gradually become "personality" channels that grate on my nerves. I mean, honestly, I have a fantastic personality and you're all lucky to get these little snippets of time with me, but...
