Actually Nintendo has the rights to K Rool. It’s just that Retro wants to have other villains sometimes but I guess that’s not allowed or else they just don’t own King K Rool.

Yeah, I find it weird that people seem to have the misconception Nintendo doesn't own the Kremlings, when they did appear in multiple Mario Sports games and both King of Swing games. And then they disappeared from those side games. Just like the Paper Mario-series references, which I'm still kinda pissed about...

ShadwSonic Exactly. They’re already making a series that has some similarities to the original country series, adding in the original villain would really make people call it a rehash or a retread. Plus I really love seeing the new creative ideas the villains now have. K Rool was kept fresh throughout all 4 games he was in but he’s had his time in the spotlight. I’d like to see him back some day but maybe not as the main villain. A way to honor him without spending an entire other game focusing on his evil again.

If they bring back K Rool, I hope they have him recruit from the other two villain groups, given those characters were all so much more interesting than their actual leaders, maybe give him a new "presidential" costume-gimmick based on a certain toupeed cheeto. Like, Kalimba had a helluva lot more personality than Tiki Tong, and I still say Bashmaster should've been the leader of the Snomads instead of Fredrik, because Fredrik is boring as hell...
