I wish there was a way to get manufacturers to agree to one form factor of battery and mounts and such so there aren't potentially 10 swapping stations for different brands next to each other. But since so much of an EV comes from battery tech, I doubt any brands are going to do that

@@s.y9236 well there's hardly any tech in this technology. It's just an automatic screwing and unscrewing device that has a bit of position adjustment through camera detection to it. The only thing that's copied here is the idea because just about any well-industrialized region in the world can come up with something like this. The key is to make this cost-efficient which is something that can't be copied. Also, based on your logic, just about everything you see in Tesla is a copy of some tech that was there beforehand, the only thing they did was integrate everything together, just like how every tech company in this world does.

NIO's cars can replace the battery, and the battery is automatically replaced within 5 minutes without getting out of the car. What's even cooler is that NIO supports the replacement of batteries of different capacities, which means that you can upgrade your battery at any time after buying a car, and support flexible upgrades by day, month, and year. The flexible upgrade means that you choose to buy the model with the smallest battery life, because even the smallest battery life is enough for your daily commute to get off work. Then you can temporarily upgrade your battery capacity for holiday travel (billed by the day), and after the holiday is over, you don't need to continue paying rent when you switch back to a small battery. Come to think of it, the battery supports physical replacement, meaning: 1. Faster charging speed, get a fully charged battery in 5 minutes 2. Flexible battery capacity strategy, you can temporarily upgrade the battery before going on a high-speed trip. It also only takes 5 minutes, no appointment required 3. There is no need to worry about the attenuation of the battery. The battery replacement network ensures the health of the battery. 4. Older vehicles can still enjoy battery packs with the latest technology. The vehicles released by NIO in 2018 can still be replaced with the latest and largest capacity batteries! Think about Tesla in the same period in 2018, it can replace the 150kwh battery in 2023, and the battery life is close to 1000km, how crazy!

Loved your video! I'd like to respectfully add something on charging speed: NIO's top charging is at 140kw but the power curve is much flatter from 10 to 70% compared to European rivals. In essence, BMW iX can take up to 200kw at 10% charge but it will drop to 100kw at 50% and then drop further. NIO will keep the charing curve quite flat to about 70%. The time difference is not more than 5min compared to iX between 10% to 80%, maybe less. Taking lower power initially protects the battery and 5min are not a big deal. Charing from 10 to 100% takes NIO ET7 30min (same for BMW iX M50). So this whole topic is not a disadvantage to ET7.

Before buying my mercedes I rented a Tesla to see about the range. Cruising 120/130kmh i had to stop after what, 200km? It was raining and fell that was a joke for both the price of the car and the price of scattered mini recharges that together summed up to a good amount. Said myself till they dont do a car with 500-600 effective km in highway cruise speeds like 130/140 im not going for it. You can't put the lidar behind the glass windshield because the glass blocks out much of the infrared frequencies which lidar relies on. Of course, you could make the windshield out of infrared transparent materials such as germanium, but it'd be prohibitively expensive, and you wouldn't be able to see out of it. Sapphire solves the visibility problem, but trust me, you also can't afford it.

@@Tonyx.yt. No, you don't understand. Laser refers to the process whereby electromagnetic radiation is amplified in such a way that the emission is coherent. Automotive lidars such as the ones used by NIO operate in the EM band known as infrared, which refers to frequencies from 300 gigahertz to 400 terahertz, which are invisible to the naked eye. In layman's terms, NIO's lidar shoots invisible infrared laser beams ahead of the car.

LOL, this is a rather honest review. Most if not all of the review in China end up sucking up to NEO, and some of the owners are fanatical to the point that it seems like a cult. IMHO, its the Hyundai of electric car, which is basically a good tool for transportation, nothing more.

@@Chris-hw4mq Pricing in China roughly equates to 65k euro VAT included, however, they are still loosing millions upon millions each quarter. Its worth about 50k in my opinion, about the same as a Chinese made hybrid 5 series or electric X3.

@@cantzlermedia I do know what its become, which is quite good, especially the new Ionic 5. Please note, i cannot say how its viewed overseas, but in Taiwan, HK and China its still considered a tier below its Japanese counterpart. Based on my recent trip to France and Italy, Hyundai is still niche in Europe. I must add, service wise Neo is bar none the best in China excluding ultra luxury brands, hence its cult like following (and the hemorrhaging of money :P).

Well logically it might just be easier to service those cameras in that location. Instead of having to remove the interior roof headliner or the whole glass panel to get the the cameras when or if they go bad, they can just remove that panel on the roof of the car. This is just a guess, but seems to make the most sense.

This is just a test car and it’s still very beautiful in my opinion I would like to see the cockpit at night with the mood lighting! I do agree the autonomous cameras could be hidden a bit better but other than that I would take this over a plaid any day and yes Ik the plaid would rip the doors off this car but the interior and body style is way nicer imo

Well, it seems like a decent car that would make a great daily driver assuming it isn't overpriced like all EV's are at this point in time. It just isn't built for the autobahn and the power figure seems inflated. The 100-200 is horrible. I hope you'll be able to remove the speed limiter with an update that would vastly improve the overall performance. I like the idea of the battery swaps too.

Tesla car's interior design look so very cheap and simple but so expensive that's the way they get money to fund the SpaceX project
@deeagnol

I think the reviewer is talking absolute fluff about the design being "generic". That car looks absolutely beautiful. If it had a Mercedes or Porsche badge, people would jizz. NIO shits on the competition all day, from the looks, to battery swaps (even for a larger capacity one for longer trips), functionality etc even the little robot thing is genius, you don't ever have to fiddle with any buttons and can just focus on driving and not take your hands off the wheel.

Yeah you can replace the battery for a full charge and you can just charge it to 100% at home or at a normal charger. I will say that a lot of people who got a brand new NIO held off on replacing their brand new battery and just charged at home. New your battery health is at 100% but if you go to a battery swap station you maybe exchanging for a battery that’s been in circulation for much longer and has a lower health %. I know NIO states that they remove batteries out of circulation if it’s below like 80 or 70% health?
