As an SC superfan... Caleb can play on time and from the pocket, and showed it all through his college career. He also got drafted No. 1 overall partly bc he can read progressions and keeps his eyes downfield, unlike Fields. I'm confident he'll improve. Whether Caleb is a perennial All-Pro is a different story, ofc.

And he played behind a great OL and had great receivers and the biggest thing he had Marshall Faulk probably one the best if not the dual threat RB, Williams has never played any ball after college, had poor protection and his all pro receiver dropped any easy catch, and Titans have a good defense with a very good pass rush, I don't expect to see great game from Williams this year, a good game yes and some flashs of great yes, and he didn't cost the Bears the game but the Titans QB did cost them the game

I thought at first that Kurt might not have watched the tape, but he referenced the play where Caleb tried to use his athleticism to escape the rush, but was sacked for a big loss. Clearly, Kurt had seen at least several of the plays, but perhaps not the whole game. In my opinion, Caleb's performance in any one quarter of the game was about the same as in any other quarter. He's got a long way to go, but I think he'll eventually get there. I'm just glad we don't have a divisional opponent until Week 11 against the Packers. 🐻⬇

Really great session. Interesting that Stroud has quickly become successful, using the same type of system, and one that is not often used now. Not that they critically need it - they have some pretty accomplished people on their staff - but man, it would be cool to have the Bears bring Kurt Warner in as an outside consultant for a day or two

You know what's a shame is back in the day, before he signed with the Rams, he was offered a tryout with the Bears, but apparently he got bit by a bug on his arm which caused it to swell up. He tried to reschedule the tryout, but the Bears never called him back. If the Bears would have taken a chance on him, there's a good chance he would have eventually gotten on the field, since in those days the Bears would start multiple QBs a year, and who knows what would have happened

I think Caleb has all the talent and mental ability to be great. The O-line is obviously a concern but that is correctable with a 1st and 2 2nds next year. My biggest concern is the coaching. Shane is looking shaky and if he gets replaced next year we have the same old song and dance with a young QB having to learn a new system in back to back years.
@mark11967AD
@mark11967AD 4 күн бұрын
That was my thought completely that he was stuck on a No 1 and not just looking for the open man. CJ Stroud is the complete opposite. He’s gonna look around and find that open receiver and zip the ball in there. Not saying Caleb can’t be that guy. In structure at Oklahoma I think he was that guy. We’ll see how he does Sunday night.

Go to the four minute mark and listen to what the quarterback is required to do…in two seconds..with a half dozen 300#+ guys trying their best to smash him headfirst into the turf. Remember just a few months ago this kid was in college, but we expect him to perform at an elite level from day one. Go back and look at the first year for Mahomes or Brady and see how they did There’s a reason there have only been a few really elite quarterbacks

I watched the tape yesterday and there was a lot of protection issues Center and guard getting bulldozed Center stupidly joining a triple team and missing a rusher Running back not picking up a corner/linebacker rush Center and guard not picking up DT in two screen plays At least 3rd of his attempts had protection issues Then we had wide receiver drops, routing running mistakes Caleb missed some throws and open receivers and made poor decisions It was just poor execution in general
@Hello4now
@Hello4now 4 күн бұрын
The fact that Shelton saw one guy getting doubled by the Guard and Tackle and didn't immediately think "stunt" is a little worrying. I was definitely confused and disappointed when the Bears kept Chris Morgan as the Oline coach after last year, since I feel like the Bears have been really bad at recognizing/dealing with stunts and blitzes during his whole time here. Line as a whole didn't play terribly, but there were too many issues that need to get cleaned up. And yes, that goes for the entire offense. We'll see if they're able to make any improvements in Week 2. If not, it's going to be a long game

I'm curious if QBs are taught to eliminate routes presnap, so they aren't wasting time on a read that has a low success rate. Like if your #1 is a go route and they are showing man with a safety shaded over to bracket, then leave that read out. I mean the entire concept to me is stupid. It restricts a Qbs ability to improvise and react to what they are seeing. In PP, if the slot is the 3rd read on a quick out where the corner is playing 10 yards deep, it's unlikely the QB will ever get to it. QB should have the power to make that the first read based on situation.

I am not a qb guru. Pretty much all the criticisms of Williams game that Warner just pointed out I was commenting and being called a moron by everyone. Like I said, I’m no guru. All these things were obvious about his game. He isn’t athletic like Mahomes or Fields. He bails out immediately if his first read isn’t open and one thing Warner didn’t mention is that he is short. I thought the dude was 5’9” to maybe 5’10”. Shocked he is almost 6’1”. He plays short. These arm angle things he was praised for resulted in batted balls in the NFL. Ironically I learned all this stuff from watching football and football analysis my whole life. The very people who know all this stuff are the ones who hyped Williams to the moon. It’s one game but he has lots of drawbacks. This generational plug n play bullshit hype about him was pure propaganda nonsense. CJ took his lumps in the preseason games. When the season started, he was good right out of the gate with a crazy banged-up OL. Even with the sacks and hits he took, he began to set the league on fire at game 2. Caleb was good in preseason and probably felt a false sense of actual game speed. It may take a couple games for him. Unfortunately, for all of the rookie QB's, they'll be compared to that lofty standard of CJ Stroud.

That d-line was literally bulldozing the guard and center. He wasn't as accurate as he should have been and Allen dropped anTD. Plus, no deep shots...the man can throw the ball 70 yards accurately...take some ino on one shots for crying out loud.

He is terrible at managing the pocket. He bails too soon. Kurt admitted there were protection issues. And I saw that too. Guards and I think the center on his back a couple times. However that was maybe 6-7 dropbacks. He failed terribly when he had NFL time in the pocket. It was just terrible.

@@AlphanumericCharacters Yeah, let's undermine the protection issues and the fact that the Bears couldn't run either...My point is Kurt went straight to "progression" but when looking at the film he "did go through progressions when he had time to." Kurt should have said "first game for the rookie" he wasn't accurate when he had time to throw the ball no help from the rest of the offense.(That's simply it.) They did get 3 field goals. You didn't even watch the game or film. He "bailed" 4-5 times out of 29 passes. Sacked on 1, incomplete on couple, and ran for a 10 yard 1st down and gains on a couple. If Allen doesn't drop the TD I think we have a different game in the making. He wasn't accurate and he got no help from the offense with dropped passes, bad O-line play and he also missed open WRs too because of the hurries.

@@kelsowilz2522 Kurt was very clear that he hates the pure progression schemes. I honestly didn’t know that is a thing. Taking it back to the 70’s to my knowledge. “Bailed” was an incorrect term. He doesn’t know how to manage a pocket. His footwork is top notch when he has a clean pocket. As soon as it gets crowded he does this run in a circle thing. It’s exactly what he did twice on that 19 yard loss but I’m talking smaller scale. He can’t step up, side step or anything and get back to a quality base. It would be better for him to break the pocket and “bail” then try to create inside. It didn’t work in college. Sure as hell not gonna work in the league. He is short. The shortest you can be comfortable with but he plays shorter. You saw the batted balls. Everybody hated on Fields lack of accuracy but dude could drop it in a bucket in college. What changed? Having to work at double speed, deal with NFL caliber pass rush and make the defense respect you. Fields couldn’t do it. College accuracy doesn’t necessarily translate. I’m not saying the guy is a bust. It’s one fucking game but pretending he played anything but terrible is silly. You can look at tape of any game and see dropped balls, pass pro breakdown, all of it. What did he do when he had time? Nothing. The Titans out on a clinic for dealing with a rookie quarterback. It worked to perfection. Regardless. It looks like it’s gonna be a fun year. The defense and special teams were opportunistic and flying all over. Reminded me of the great Lovie teams. Who needs an offense when your defense can do it all?

@@AlphanumericCharacters He had 14 completions. That's what he did when he had time. Probably 3-4 dropped passes. Luckily no turnovers and two sacks. All that on 29 pass attempts with a constant imploding O-line. The worst part of his game was the "inaccuracy and missing some open receivers". Every QB misses open WRs. That's the game. There's a video that has every pass and run attempt that game from him. It's 7 minutes long watch it. He wasn't terrible. Terrible would have been some turnovers. He wasn't great either. He was one overthrown ball and one dropped pass TD from having two touchdowns! We expected more but really he's just a rookie in his first NFL game!

Like, at all, I’m not saying Caleb was good by any means, but even the deficiencies he espoused weren’t the issues I saw

I agree. I don’t think he did his homework. The question about protection really threw him off as if he didn’t even evaluate how poorly the center and guards played. It was a major factor in Caleb’s performance. Kurt either didn’t watch much tape, hyper focused on Caleb or just watched a few plays and relied on stats or preseason footage.

I’m just gonna share this tidbit. Not comparing the two but maybe some people will relax with the overreacting. John Elways first two nfl games: 1/8 14 yards 0 tds 1 int game 2: 9/21 106 yards 0td 0int and just for fun game 3: 18/33 193 yards 1 td 2int and game four was worse than the second and third. Point? Calm Down!!!!
