Thanks for sharing Shane. I met Pete a few times... during my days with the Oldsmobile Club of Canada. His Olds is a monster, and Pete is a legend! I always knew Pete had arrived at the Oldsmobile Nationals by that choppy idle his 442 has! Let him know I said "Hi", and his son keeps the 442 in the family. Cheers!

I just came across this video on KZbin. This looks identical to my old car I bought brand new in 1968, I had for 3 years. I ran NHRA and AHRA. It held the AHRA F4 record for 2 years. It was a W30 400cu auto with 4:66 in the rear.

They can be hard to start or keep running with really big cams This car was obviously set up to race in an NHRA super stock type class it ain't stock a stock 455 would idle by itself. For the people who no nothing about oldsmobiles you shouldn't comment because US oldsmobilers will always set you straight the big blocks have 3" main bearings 5 total holding in the crank shaft in and a taller deck height the small block has a shorter deck height and the first 4 main bearings from the front of the timing cover are 2.5" inches and the last main bearing is 3" inches nearest to the flywheel and just for knowledge the 350 diesel is not a gas 350 oldsmobile block at all its its own block there 2 totally different blocks. Always remember an olds engine in an olds is a oldsmobile and when you put a Chevy 350 or LS/LT1 you get a Chevymobile not Kool in any oldsmobile puritans book "THECUTLASSKING" DRIVING OLDSMOBILES AND CUTLASS'S LIKE A BAD ASS SINCE 1996 AND I ANTE EVER GOING TO STOP

That olds diesel can be converted to run gas, might win a few trophies if you can build it well
@davelowets3 жыл бұрын
@@mutedrumsdaddy3108 Yep. The diesel blocks work fine for gasoline with some block machining. They hold up well for an 800h.p. build. Now that the aftermarket Rocket block is out for the big blocks, I wouldn't use anything but. I have one, and it's a hell of a piece.
@That_Stanced_Toyota2 жыл бұрын
@@davelowets you buy just the block or did you buy a short block? I think I’m gonna buy the short block with the 4.340 bore and the 4.500 stroke with their ported heads an push about 900-1,000 horse. Was wondering if you just did the $5,000-$5,000 for the block or if you did the whole motor.
@davelowets2 жыл бұрын
@@That_Stanced_Toyota I had John build the entire engine with all of his parts, and then dyno tune it for me. His shop is only an hour away from me.. The motor has a set of his CNC max ported heads. Prototype new intake that he designed. .730 lift solid roller cam. Needle-less roller lifters. Shaft rockers. 4.350 bore, 4.25 stroke with the center counter weight billet crank. 505". There isn't ONE single G.M. part in the engine. Stick with a 4.25 stroke, and rev 'er to the moon. Stay away from the 4.5 stroke stuff, and build it as an over-square motor, now that we actually have that option. I'm not afraid to rev mine to 7300.
