Here is our 680 point robot game that we have been developing for the City Shaper Detroit World Festival. We were really excited to present this to everyone in competition at Worlds so we're very disappointed that that's not going to be possible :(. Here is our video about our robot design: • FLL Robot Design Tutor...
We think we would have been able to score full score at Worlds because at our state tournament in December we scored reliably 590, 595, and 600 out of our 610 point max at the time (stupid tan color match!) and we have only grown as a team since then. Here is a link to our 600 point run from states: • 600 Points in Competit...
Feel free to ask any questions you have about our robot game, our team, or anything about FLL in the comments below, we'll respond very quickly.

Note: Due to COVID-19 we were unable to record the most recent version of one of our transitions (between our 6th and 7th runs), but the current version of this transition (with only one red building and an upgrade) takes the same amount of time as the one featured in the video.
Also, it's a bit difficult to see but we complete inspection during the title screen at 0:09

RULES CLARIFICATIONS:
Note: We have emailed Robot Game Support about everything in this video and everything below and they agreed that it is all legal. We strongly recommend emailing them about anything you do that bends the rules and taking virtual or printed out copies of those emails to your matches to show to judges so there aren't any disputes.
Crane Units in the Tree - The rules identify both of the blue buildings in the crane mission as “Units,” which means that they each score 15 points if supported by the small branches of the tree. We get 20 points from lowering the hooked unit, 15 points for having the hooked unit supported by another blue unit, and although we miss out on the 15 points from having them inside of the blue circle we get 30 points for having the units supported by the small branches of the tree.
Flags - The rules do not say that you have to push up the flags using the blue beams, so we are allowed to push up the flags from the outside. Also, by pushing them up from the outside we push them further up than is possible with the blue beams, meaning that even if there is a robot on both blue beams pushing up the flags we still get the points because we push them up farther.
Elevator gripper - The rules only say that nothing can be touching the moving parts of the elevator, and we only grip the base of the model, which increases friction and prevents the elevator from falling. • Orange Run Breakthroug...
Shelf - The rules say that nothing can be over 12 inches during inspection and launch, but we confirmed with game support that this does not apply to home during the match.
Launch Spacers - We are aware that when the robot is launched there is not allowed to be anything spanning the border between launch and home. You can see in some of our launches we separate our launch jig into two separate pieces to satisfy this requirement, which is what we do during matches. However, due to not being able to film because of COVID-19, the only video of some of our runs was while individually workshopping them in practice which is why we don't separate the spacer during those launches.

Awesome work!!! In video (2:00) it looks like your medium motor keeps spinning with no attachment on. What is the reason for that
@WaringRoboticsFTCFLL
@WaringRoboticsFTCFLL 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! During the match, we have one program playing the whole time that includes all of our separate runs. Our robot has an internal color sensor that can sense which attachment is on top of the robot based on what color it is (you can see at 2:01 there is a yellow plate that slots into the robot, which is what the sensor sees). When it detects which attachment is seated, it queues the corresponding program onto the center button, which completely eliminates searching through the brain for programs. The medium motors spinning is part of the master program, and they make sure that the gears on the attachment quickly mesh with the gears on the robot.

You'll also get the blue cube from the elevator maybe ???? 😭😭
@fasvi1285
@fasvi1285 4 жыл бұрын
The kids on the team actually thought about that! But, sadly, the cars, on the elevator are not Units. You would also loose points. Sorry, I know you were joking, but we did actually have fun talking about how it could be done.

your robot was incredible, did you make a digital version of it (lego digital designer)? if yes you could make us available?
@WaringRoboticsFTCFLL
@WaringRoboticsFTCFLL 4 жыл бұрын
We did, however, we used a program called Studio instead of LDD, which I highly recommend. It's free, easy to use, compatible with all operating systems, and unlike LDD it is still being updated so it's still compatible with more recent operating systems. As for the actual file of our chassis, we aren't going to be giving out the file because designing your own chassis is a huge part of FLL. It is very important to go through that process. We would, however, be happy to send you close up pictures of our robot and tips for how to design your own chassis. My top two tips would probably be to make your robot a boxy shape and to design lots of iterations of your chassis.

Ciao, volevo chiederti, se le ruote vengono montate dietro al robot rispetto alla direzione, i movimenti devono essere inseriti con valori negativi per farlo procedere in avanti ma si possono invertire in positivi? se si come, premesso che utilizzo ev3

@connorm_3605
@connorm_3605 4 жыл бұрын
Probably uses motor sharing mechanisms (differentials, ratchets, etc.) Some also might be linked together (i.e. when one moves, another does as well).

Bravo! This is genius. Our FLL team is studying this for ideas. May we ask a couple of questions? 1. Which language / environment did you code this in? 2. How much of your navigation is gyro-based vs. line following? 3. How did you align so perfectly to the center of the ramp, since the line is in the middle while your color sensors are on the corners? Thank you in advance!

You could’ve gotten 685 pts though: by putting the second red unit (on the red circle) onto the treehouse mission
@WaringRoboticsFTCFLL
@WaringRoboticsFTCFLL 4 жыл бұрын
We actually only put one red unit into the red circle, only due to not being able to film because of COVID 19 the only film of the transition between our 6th and 7th runs was from a month ago when we put two red units in the circle. You can see when it switches angles (2:30) that only one red unit (with a roof improvement) is there

A lot of time and effort. Once we built the robot in CAD with small spaces for we spent many hours building (and restarting) it until we finally got the right combination of which wires work the best.
